Since there's fuck all to look forward to when it comes to Mega Man these days–much less X–let's talk about what the fan devs are working on.

Exhibit A: Mega Man X Corrupted

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIMyDCAhpQw

This is probably the most ambitious one out there. Boasting a Metroid map that emphasizes exploration over linear level design, this game is being developed in Flash and will allow you to either collect and mix armor parts for X or rack up sick combos with Zero, the latter of which brings his moveset from the Playstation games into the 16-bit world, plus all the new abilities he'll learn from bosses alongside X. There is a ranking system that classifies either hunter like in the later X games, and you'll also be able to use or unlock X's Ultimate Armor to use, but something even better's coming back that both can use: Ride Armors.

This one's been in development for a while, and already has a solid, sorta ambient rock soundtrack and sweet fan art you can check out on YT, along with the gameplay demos. I'm looking forward to it, although not as much as I used to. The Giga Wheel video was okay, and once again I'd rather a game that focuses on developing X's gameplay into something we haven't seen yet and tell Zero to fuck off for a change. Still, this is clearly a love letter to all of the sidescrolling X games, and I'm no one to tell JKB what to do.

Exhibit B: Mega Man X Eclipse

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuLou0Bo86s

This one's already got a one-stage demo going, and it appears to be a traditional X game that focuses on X. I haven't played this one yet or know much about it, but it looks like exactly what I was asking for. Plus I like the soundtrack better than Corrupted, so that's a good sign. Scorch Raptor could use a facelift.

Feel free to get into these or post up some other ones that look good.

Whoa, I didn't know there were others who knew about Mega Man X: Corrupted. It looks like a legitimate X4 game if it were on the SNES.

I am currently learning UE4 currently (I fucking hate video tutorials but I have to unfortunately watch them, its like fucking torture) because I want to make a 3D version of the first X game along with improving X7's 3D game-play system.

>I'd rather a game that focuses on developing X's gameplay into something we haven't seen yet and tell Zero to fuck off for a change.

I agree, there's enough Zero, it should have more focus on X.

Didn't think someone was going to make a topic about this game, neat. I personally prefer Zero because of the way all of his abilities can be accessed on the go rather than X who has to scroll through them. But since he's letting people play as both characters everyone should be happy. I'm liking the Metroid-style map as well, but I'm betting it's making development take longer since good Metroid-style map design takes a lot of effort.

Rozenkreuzstilette isn't really a megaman fangame but it's heavily inspired by the series, except with magicians and some cool ass castles instead of robots and uh, factories I guess. Did I mention the music is awesome?

>blatant copy of chill penguin's weapon

It looks cool, like if a Mega Man game were given a Castlevania majeover. The inspiration is unmistakeably Mega Man though.

>zero's ability access on the fly

Yeah, it's nice to have a selection of moves just a combo away, but I've found it's really rewarding to be able to cycle through X's weapons and know which one to use and where to find it on the fly. To me that's more an indication of an advanced player than choosing to going close-range with Zero; most of us probably play X with buster-only and no armor without really exploring the utility of his complete arsenal. Limitless potential and all that jazz.

Got around to playing the Mega Man X Eclipse demo. It's really fucking cool. The music is just right, the stage is challenging and surprising for a beginning level, and Scorch Raptor isn't a pushover. Overall not only a well-designed game so far, but it fucking nails the oldschool Mega Man X aesthetic. It's exactly what I've been yearning for. Oh hey, you can updash in this game too.

The updash really shouldn't have that second's delay. It makes it less quick than just wall-kicking up enclosed spaces.

There's so little in the way of MMX fangames. These next two are pretty much the only other ones I could find that are noteworthy.

Mega Man 21XX

I remembering playing this one a long time ago. Never got to beating it, but I'm guessing it's a complete game. You get six playable characters, four of which are some quality-looking OCs, as are some of the stage bosses. This game's extremely dated and there's absolutely no polish to it; the autism is also pretty strong with this one , but it has a certain nostalgic charm to it, have a look:

Vile Stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkDMDVgL1rU

According to this thread it was heralded as one of the best MMX fangames ever made. Since it's one of the few of it's size and scale I've ever seen finished, I can't really argue with that, but I'll let you be the judge: http://forum.rockmanpm.com/index.php?topic=527.0

Links to the game files are dead, so here's the archive version: https://archive.org/details/MM21XXFINAL

Mega Man X Maverick's Fury

This one apparently decided to make the joke Cpapcom game Rockman X9 come to life. Extremely unpolished, but it's got some nice things going for it. The game gives you a brand new Gaia armor for X plus everyone's favorite Ultimate Armor, and three different armors for Zero, one of which is the very DnD-ish poison armor, which sounds like something I would've come up with when I was 9. The other armor is some shadow ninja thingy, and the third is a cool looking seraph kind of armor. It's a nice touch, especially since Zero fans like to bang on about how Zero don't need no armor 2 b kool. Lastly comes Axl, the most agile player with double air-dashing and a nice flurry attack with his pistols. They also gave X a more daring-looking standing & shooting pose. Nice touches overall, could be pretty fun.

Not directly Mega Man X related but I have found MegaMan 2.5D. It seems interesting and online co-op is available for it right now:

There's also a fan made Mega Man Legends 3 that's being made by some guys over in Japan with Unity 3D. They made an English promotion trailer and seem to be very passionate about the project.

I wish them all the best. It looks rough, but I want to play this game more than Mighty No. 9.

A new video of the Corrupted project came out a few days ago. Link is to a webm of it.

That's looking really good. The game design looks more like Symphony of the Night than Metroid or Mega Man, but once the levels/corridors get narrow it looks better. The air duct segments are a nice touch.
