I've been following this game for a while and I'm liking what I see so far. However, the promise, and consequent expectations, of a spiritual successor to RO could jeopardize the game's future, I think. People may go in expecting to get the exact same feeling they got from RO and anything less will constitute a failure. I've been adamant about managing my expectations of the game and avoiding "hype" simply because it could sully my enjoyment of an otherwise decent game simply because it wasn't a copy of a decade-old game I liked once.

I have to say that, at least in theory, the "class" system they've set up provides a good number of character build options and at least attempts to introduce genuinely unique features between them all. I'm hoping that the international beta will shed some light on how viable each skill is in practice. While I'm worried that there will be lots of overlap due to some skills being strictly better than others (as is almost always the case), the fact that "classes" are at most 3 levels deep should help mitigate a lot of it.

I've been playing around with the skill builder for a couple days now but it's not too terribly useful in a lot of cases because it's still in Korean. Still, I've had fun coming up with support, tank, and combination builds with Cleric alone. With any luck at least 1 or 2 will be half as good in practice as in theory.

It's the opposite, Nexon is in charge of the Korean release and as far as anyone can imc is self-publishing in NA and distributing through Steam. They've also stated that different regions may develop the game differently, depending on the community (for better or worse).

I'm hoping this means they might opt for B2P instead of F2P for the west. Either way, it's not a big issue since, as far as I can tell, there's no PvP.

Seeing them publish the game themselves is fucking fantastic though. I was really worried Nexon was going to, and that usually spells doom.

Though I am worried about regions developing seperately. The west has a far more casual userbase that will cry and scream until they dont have to pay attention to level.

As far as I know asia is pretty casual, at least Japan is. I somehow doubt they'll lower the difficulty of the main content for the west since Ragnarok was basically untouched in that regard and it was pretty damn popular here.

I can't imagine them doing anything majorly different, but we will see.

Good lord, yes! I mean, we'll all know where they are within the first few days or weeks but still. Running from quest to quest and hub to hub is something I got tired of pretty quickly. Yet here I am playing FF14

Seems all right. Depends what the gameplay is like. I play healers and there seems a fair amount of variety in the cleric classes.

From what I can tell when you go up levels you get to pick your next class, out of two, or stay with your existing class and there's also a hidden class that can pop up at any rank.

The idea is that it'll help keep them funded without resorting to the usual cash shop P2W faggotry that accompanies F2P games. Since they'd be getting some money with each copy sold they can more feasibly limit their shop to shit that doesn't mess with gameplay. The Secret World follows this model and to my knowledge they're not doing too badly with most of their cash items being cosmetic and stories. Granted, that's more of a story-/atmosphere-driven game so they can pump out those adventures alongside cosmetics but the basic idea is the same.

I am quite cautious about the developers of this game. I remember all the scrapped content that was done in Black Desert compared to it before by that game's developers. It may happen to this game or not but so far its gotten me interested.
