Imagine if Mr. Not Important never uttured a word? I think it would make a more thought provoking and dare I say a "2deep4u" experience. The moment he starting saying shit about "genocide crusade", "my whole life is just whole bitter hatred" I not only stopped taking this seriously but I also cringe most of the times that Not Important talks. The over the topness of his words does not match very well with the really morbid and sadistic atmosphere and the animations when Not Import executes someone.

f7338f No.17020

Maybe it's going to turn out that the game is actually a sophisticated satire of itself and Destructive has been trolling the fuck out of everyone this whole time

3bee38 No.17021

>>17020

I agree. The dialogue monologue? sure sounds like a satire more than anything else.

14906a No.17032

>>17015

Wait, so you are supposed to take it seriously?

f43373 No.17034

Yeah, that would have made for a better trailer. That wasn't what they were going for though, the Hatred trailer was specially crafted to produce as much outrage in the media as possible, and was released at just the right time to capitalize on it.

aff5b6 No.17041

>>17032

I think they're aiming for that point where it's still believable that he would say it but slightly over the top so some people could laugh at it. Or maybe the insane ramblings of a spree killer are just somewhat amusing.

Judging from mr. Satanic Blood's recent AMA, trailers, some interviews and my life long experience in being a Polak I'm pretty sure there's no trolling here, no post modern attempts at art, satire or any of that shit westerners seems to enjoy so much.

But it's not supposed to be serious either. Just juvenile edgy fun.

And I disagree OP, that'd be rather pretentious, just in a minimalistic, hipster magnet kind of way.

a6659a No.17083

The AO rating this game got is a bit of an over-reaction, the violence in this is similar to that of GTA, also GTA's rampage minigames have similar concepts as well.

If their trailer didn't ruffle feathers like it did it would have gotten a M rating, it's a great game, but it doesn't deserve an AO rating at all.

4a1173 No.17094

Meh, I am pretty sure this game will turn out to be thoroughly average. Not terrible or broken but certainly not great because no twin-stick shooter ever is. The only reason /v/ is so hyped for it is because it pisses off the SJWs, which is admittedly pretty funny but it has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself. Might be worth getting on sale or something but I'm not about to mark the release date on my calendar.

I'll be giving the game a try on release, I've been hoping it'll live up to the hype it caused. I don't think I'll get my complete fill on brutality, I might be wrong I don't know, it seems brutal enough from the trailer, I just hope it lasts with each play through.

6bca31 No.17131

I love this edgy crap, too much soft shait going around. Being this over the top grimdark makes me smile.

The physics look damn awesome, i have been waiting for a 3rd person shooter like this. I think it will be at worst average.

f43373 No.17134

>>17118

>>17083

It is not unprecedented, Man Hunt 2 got an AO rating for violence alone as well.

cad893 No.17137

>>17131

It's technically a dual stick shooter if I'm not mistaken. So we can have awesome grim dark grittiness while going to back to the dual stick shooter genre. It's just an overall awesome package.

>over the top grimdark

Shouldn't the proper phrase be "over the edge" ?

043030 No.17146

>>17137

Eh. I played this type of games before dual stick was a thing. So isometric/3rd person shooter sounds good to me. Does not really matter. Looks fun.

Style over substance, choomba!

Apparently GOG has refused to distribute the game. A fucking AO rating shouldn't be the end of the world. It's a not a porn game.

b03895 No.17180

>>17179

Can it still be purchased from them directly

aff5b6 No.17181

>>17180

From the devs? Good to know.

aff5b6 No.17286

Somewhat amusing, Twitch has changed it's ToS to include 'no AO rated games' and includes Hatred.

https://archive.is/I8KtE

Even though Hatred does not have an AO rating (they only submitted a question to see what they might get if they do it officially, I think).

http://www.esrb.org/ratings/search.jsp

In the comment section of the blog post that states the new rules, the mod/whoever the fuck uses Polygon as a source for Hatred's rating, not the ESRB website itself. wwwwwwwwwww

>>17286

Why? And why now? The fact they listed Fahrenheit and Manhunt now, YEARS after both came out is even more hilarious.

Obviously the answer that comes to mind is they intended to have a policy like that all along but Hatred coming out made them put it into legal forms.

Seeing the industry as it is, who would believe that?

>>17179

GOG fucked up, with refusing to sell Hatred but also with communicating their reasons for doing so to the fans, which should be the first damn thing considering the Steam controversy.

I expect some PR apology stating they had legal problems. Well legal problems are what you hire lawyers for with all the mega dosh you made. Not doing that for a fellow indie Polish dev is, to me, another smear on their faux slavic pride image.

8c8ff9 No.17290

Also OP I don't think it would be though provoking, because if Not Important didn't state his motivations everyone would just project and speculate the shit they already have in their head onto him.

To me what's best about the controversy surrounding this game is the fact that he explicitly states it's a slaughter, and real peoples reaction to this. I still remember one shitbags comment on reddit saying "wow I though he'll be fighting the corrupt government or smthng but it's innocent people i hate this". This is why the game got AO, "the context", as we heard mentioned here and there, makes Hatred a step forward regarding violence in video games, a step GTA or other shit haven't take. Even fucking Manhunt had a story, and Postal was not as graphically detailed witch might not matter to regular players but matters to ESRB people and other normalfags.

A silent protagonist only seems 2deep for you because then you have some pretentious, edgy wish to slaughter and you want something to project it on.

wow_it's_fucking_nothing.jpg

It's actually really sad people are losing their shit over this. Then again I have that reaction to every controversy, so what do I know.

It does seem like they went for a tongue-in-cheek tone. I'm still not a fan of the colour design, so I'll have to pirate it to see if it gives me a headache. Otherwise it looks like nothing special, just some shooty explody fun if nothing else.

>>17289

>GOG fucked up

Yeah, they should have just said 'we need an M rating or less' - I don't know if they sell unrated games. They might have said but then I'm not sure why the devs would not pass on the reason (milking the controversy?).

>Why?

The blog post started wanking off about how they wanted Twitch to be a safe space and fun so kool-aid drinking and wanting to avoid people getting mad at them (AO games aren't going to get them a lot of money so it's not a big deal to lose).

They had that whole issue with Senran as well.

f43373 No.17301

They actually sell and AO rated game right now with the uncensored version of Indigo Prophecy. It is listed as AO right on the storefront.

C'mon, you're gonna play it.

You're gonna give it your precious time and then you will become more like the main character.

You're no more different than the people who went to see Dragon Ball Evolution to complain later.

Admit it.

You're my Robert Paulson.

No more edgy, edgy (I bet you don't learned enough words to express yourself more properly, therefore you behave like this)… Get out of the closet and embrace me and the game!
