I'd go with FFT,FFTA and any other final fantasy classes for the abilities they get.
beastmaster for transforming into beast
gadgeteers for affecting the entire map
gladiators for being tanks and having strikeback
blue mages for taking other monster abilities
Even though this goes against your example I like some of the Battlefield game classes. In 2142 I always liked to use support and place turrets on the map for defense or crowd control and place mines so any enemy would die if they got in a vehicle.
In Wasteland and Mass Effect there are people who specialize in lock picking doors to get treasure you wouldn't normally get. In Mechwarrior its not really a specific class but depending on the hull you can equip a certain amount of weapons.
fuck it, KoF 98 has extra or advanced mode, SF alpha has ism, and CVS2 has grooves that make you approach the game in a different way even though they are the same characters.
I feel the good class systems help you gain abilities which help you interact with the environment, enemies, and allies in different ways. did that help or did I go off in a tangent?
