How will he be remembered?

What will Nintendo's future hold with new leadership?

And why the fuck did not even the newsroom pick up on this? Goddamnit, /bestv/, get your shit together!

 No.18064

I'm really afraid that they might appoint some stockholder sycophant instead of another former developer.

Another thing I forgot to add in the OP: how to you compare his reign to Yamauchi's? Obviously very different eras and different challenges, but… yeah: /bestv/'s thoughts on that one?

>>18064

Iwata's reign was financially pretty damn solid for the company. Under his leadership, they sought and found themselves a bigger market; but always kept that "gameplay is most important" mindset. That, and whoring out all their old franchises.

So to go with someone who is entirely profits-driven, maybe to keep up with the "media center always online" malarkey of the competition, would not only not make sense, it would also be a dramatic change in their own internal narrative.

Don't see it happening.

 No.18068

They might go full EA that would kill Nintendo for now we can only speculate what Nintendo will be like after Iwata's reign is over.

Have they chosen a successor yet i hear today is the funeral

I frankly don't know to be honest. Iwata IIRC was a programmer in HAL and was the one of the people behind making the DS which brought in a lot of cash for Nintendo. They could fail and end up doing a lot of stupid decisions which would drive them into the grave. They could learn from some of Iwata's mistakes and become an even better company. In all honesty, I really don't know.

The WiiU. Don't get me wrong, it has a great amount of first party titles that you can't get anywhere else which makes it more worthwhile to get compared to its competitors which currently seem to be lacking in that department but the marketing campaign for it was quite awful, the controller for the most part is a gimmick that should have been made optional while the console came in with the pro-controller.

Though overall, consoles nowadays only have the exclusives going for them. Most 3rd Party games you can get on PC nowadays.

Yeah, I kind of meant in stuff you could directly attribute to him alone; and as the guy that gave the go-ahead to that monstrosity, I'd agree that it was one of his biggest blunders.

Like you say, it's got a lot of exclusives and people are still buying the fucker, but if anything, it set the bar pretty low for what was to be considered "next-gen". (I enjoyed Smash and fucking adored Bayo, but even as my favourite console titles, they weren't enough to justify the purchase) But I also spend my discretionary income on fucking cardboard these days, so take from that what you will.

I think the only wrong with the Wii U is that incredibly stupid name. Same goes for that "New" 3DS shit.

I nearly forgot to not attribute one whole company to one man. Though I'd still say that the Wii U tablet controller was an unnecessary and poor idea regardless of who came up with it. I think a better idea (although it'd be quite expensive and I don't think it would have happened anyway since its quite unfeasible) would have been to make the tablet controller an actual handheld with a design similar to the pro-controller which would have been quite nice since you could play all of your games on the go like you would with a 3DS.

But I think that such an idea is unfeasible because they'd probably have to invest a lot of money into making sure that the hardware of the handheld-controller is on par with the console and I am sure that they'd also want to keep their handhelds separate from the console since they sell very well.
