Senran Kagura Anonymous 03/19/15 (Thu) 09:32:21 53de58 No. 3932
I'm a big fan of the Senran Kagura series; having only played Burst though I feel like my scope on the series is rather limited. Is Shinovi Versus worth getting a Vita for? If I did get a Vita for it I'd get Estival Versus for it too when it eventually gets localised because fuck getting a ps4. What are the pros and cons of Shinovi Versus anyway? I heard there's some abusable mechanics but nothing too game breaking, also how do the characters change gameplay wise from the transition to full 3D. I admire the changes the series can accommodate; from 2.5D beat em up to full 3D musou style to a cooking rhythm game (obviously these aren't difficult but it's still nice to see the expanded franchise) and I'd like to hear where you'd enjoy seeing the series take another branch too. Playing Burst I'd totally buy a 2D Fighter based on it, Guilty Gear 3D models with anime style but maybe plays similar in scope to Arcana Heart with the focus on getting into aerial combat. Basically what would your ideal Senran game be? What do you like about each game and what do you dislike? What would you change? Katsuragi is best girl. Love those boots

>>3936 Like I said I've only played Burst but what I like most about it is it's in my opinion a great handheld title. The gameplay is simple but enjoyable with a focus on aerial combat as a lot of your combos end with launching the enemy or groups of enemies. A short window opens, signified with a green ring popping out, where you press A and follow them up into the air for aerial combos. It's great for short bursts of gameplay which is why I think it works great as a handheld title, It can be a pain to play for extended time periods because of the simplistic combat but for say brackets of 45mins to say an hour and a half is great.
The story isn't anything amazing but I think it characterises the girls in the game well, they all have their own shortcomings, insecurities, and reasons for being where they are right now, also there's some slightly darker than expected moments that contrast the regular light heartedness which is nice. I was pleasantly surprised at least since I expected just shit from the story.
Basically if you treat burst like it is, a handheld game designed to be played on the go then it's good, extended periods the simplicity of the combat gets boring, also it can get very grindy if you want to unlock everything. Burst is probably the best entry point in that regard but it's far from perfect, I've heard shinovi versus and senran kagura 2 improve the gameplay quite a bit but I'm yet to play them so I can't really comment.

>>3936 I actually wanted to play the game in spite of the fanservice. Not that I didn't enjoy it once I got into things, however. But I got into Shinovi Versus because I wanted a fun, if a bit shallow, Musou game with ninja powers.
>>3939 >assume To be fair, if you take a screenshot of any story moment or reaction shot, chances are that it's going to look like a still from a hentai.

>>3932 >Is Shinovi Versus worth getting a Vita for? Personally I think getting a console, even a handheld, for just one game is a bit much. Check out some of the the other games on the vita and see if they interest you.
>how do the characters change gameplay wise from the transition to full 3D. It didn't change that much to me. Their moves were changed a little but it still plays similar to Burst, but now you control the camera.
>Pros Larger cast to play around with. More character customization. Leveling up easier than in Burst. More options for Aerial combat. The addition of blocking/parrying and breach arts also change up the gameplay a bit. Four separate stories to play through, with character getting a personal story broken up into 5 missions. The AI for rival shinobi is improved, especially in the last chapter of each story.
>Cons Camera can get stuck in weird ways when using the lock on, some people don't even bother using the lock on because of that. It's easier than Burst but that's not too bad considering there's a hard mode version of each mission. Suzune and Daidouji are DLC. Lots of cosmetic DLC. Some breach arts are very abusable, like Ryouna's. Parrying can make the game even easier once you get the timing down.
There's a couple more pros and cons but those are the main ones for me.

I can say I've become a big fan too OP. I thought Shinovi Versus wasn't coming out so I imported it last year and had a blast playing it. There were some annoying gameplay flaws though. Like how clothes tearing would ruin the flow of combat. Every time you used ninpo, you had to skip the scene and both of these problems were fixed in multiplayer but you had no option to turn them off in singleplayer. Thankfully, both problems were fixed with Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson which I imported as well. It's even better than SV IMO and just a great game in general. Anyway, there are more things I didn't like about the game but they were pretty minor. In a few days, Senran Kagura: Estival Versus comes out in Japan and it'll be mailed to my apartment a few days after. >Fixed nearly all the gameplay problems I had with SV. No more infinite dash cancel combos and you can turn off the clothing destruction zoom ins>2 man duo system and team supers from Deep Crimson >Slowed down some characters and changed their breach artes to make them feel more unique instead of nearly everyone being Sanic >Wet, see-through clothing added in >Bought in poses and facial expressions from SK2 and added onto it. You can now have 5 characters in the dressing room >Great deal of customization now >25 (or 27) characters >Dat soundtrack >Mfw

I imported the first game, thought it was unexpectedly decent, but never felt much desire to play Burst. I liked SV much more. But now I've finally started Burst and I'm surprised how much the combat had improved. I was pessimistic as to the future of the side-scrolling beat-em-up side of the series, but now I'd like to play SK2 as well. I bought a PSN code today to get EV for PS4 later this week. Nippon-Yasan seems to have the best prices and service out of the places that sell codes online.

I enjoyed Shinovi Versus, but I thought that the game was very very repetitive. The combat is basically an improved Dynasty Warriors combat (which isn't a BAD thing, per se) but the level design left a lot to be desired, and the whole thing was linear from start to finish (not to mention that pretty much every level was the same shit) I actually finished a review for the game a few weeks back after getting a review code at the end of November, despite being told we'd get one before release. Fuck One PR. and my conclusion was that it was a decent game, but unless you could get really into the fanservice the game itself would get repetitive by the time you got through one of the 4 stories. …Is Senran Kagura 2, or Estival Versus any better in that regard?

Just finished the prologue in Estival Versus. It's seemingly an evolutionary refinement of Shinovi Versus in every way. It controls well and looks great. The fanservice has been ratcheted up a notch and the story is set up in an anime OVA way, where the events of this game are likely not to have any significant effect on the game's universe.
