I still need to finish Witcher 1/2. I finished the awful tutorials and quit the games. I don't doubt that it's probably a great game with rich story, but that was enough to put me off and make me play something that was actually catching my attention. Call me a casual, but the game failed to hook me in the first sequence of the game.

>>4172W1 is a game you really have to appreciate the atmosphere and get immersed in to enjoy. I personally loved act 2 because I felt like I was a real detective. But above all, it's godly in act 4.

Personally, this is the one game I've been looking forward to since last year. The only issue I remember reading is the vast overall to the alchemy system that, while a bit tedious in the first two iterations of the series, gave it flavor compared to other RPGs. I hope they don't completely remove it or gimp it because it really doesn't feel like the Witcher without mutagens and potions.

>>4164I'm reading the books in anticipation, I marginally preferred Witcher 1 owing to the immersion and slower burning progression. The books are mostly good for the politics/character relationships which shine in 1; in 2 you can miss a lot without knowing at least a vague military history of the continent. At first I thought the amnesia was a cheap narrative device but on the flipside it does a decent job of explaining how the new-to-the-universe player can be so deaf and blind to the politics of the world until it is often too late. I imagine it will be the same for 3.

Djikstra visiting Kovir in The Tower of the Swallow (Can't tell you pages, I'm having to read it in French of all things, get it together Gollancz), so far I enjoy it but I can see where you get the special snowflake vibe from about Ciri. I am really enjoying having the extra level of background on Silé and Philippa at the minute.
e66aa5 No.4643
>>4615Also, a quick extra thought: Ciri being a special snowflake can somewhat be excused because her abilities/status is effectively a MacGuffin to drive a lot of the other, more interesting plot strands, like
Cahir's relation to Nilfgaard and Geralt and touches on other interesting points relevant to the games like
whether the witchers can make more witchers. Moreover, given that her early childhood has parallels with
Alvin's abilities my curiosity is aroused as to whether he has Elder Blood or not and whether he is the Grandmaster who travelled back in time - if so, was it really such a good idea to give his soul to the Wild Hunt? 12869a No.5710

Just saw some new details.
>No Man's Land features 25 smaller towns, some of which are the size of Flotsam from The Witcher 2.
>The game features two really big cities: Novigrad and Oxenfurt, both very lively.
>passages with Ciri are like a linear action-adventure, not like a RPG, plays differently and more action-fueled than Geralt's passages (no inventory, no skill tree, depending on the scene Ciri has certain skills)
>Ciri sequences will be (in total) 5-10h
>Many small details such as Roach stopping to eat apples from a basket
>All equipped items are visible in-game on Geralt
>best items in game must be crafted
>mutagens can be very powerful, like 40% damage enhancer for signs
>fist fighting is without QTEs now, it's just like normal fighting with hard and fast strikes and such
>there are horseraces similar to RDR, biggest focus on stamina management during races, you can even buy better saddles for horseraces
>Geralts beard will grow. You have to go to a barber after a few days
>The HUD is fully customizable. Icons and quest markers on the map can also be deactivated. Audiovisual hints (e.g. people screaming for help) will be present if you wish to do so.
>Fluid gameplay on 1080p with everything on maximum +nvidia hairworks on GTX 980
>game loading time is extremely short on the high-end PC
>Ultra settings are impressive, especially the rich vegetation and character models; there can be scenes where difference between high and ultra won't be that noticeable; lighting is impressive: for instance evening light falling on vast flower fields of a parfum-maker
>there was indeed no slider or adjustment option for the draw distance/LOD
>They encountered very few bugs, no crashes of freezes.

>>5720I started up W1 again and got the farthest I've gotten so far and really enjoyed it. I to act 2 and did everything I could do in the city and then moved on to the swamp.
And then I kept dying to the plants.
Difficulty doesn't bother me as long as I know it's my fault and I need to fix my shit. I couldn't really figure out what to do with these echinops though (I think that's what they're called) to get by them and it got frustrating and I had to take a break. I might come back to it later and just move on to W2 in preparation for 3 right now.
I will say though my favorite part of the game is just the feeling of actually being a monster hunter. They do a really good job of it. I love how crucial alchemy feels, love the idea of the bounty board, love having to read up on monsters to get shit, etc., and I hope there's more of it in 2 and 3.

The way it handles Quen is nice (since it's also channelled in the books) but I'm not keen on the perma parry which coincidentally removes your ability to riposte.
I do however recommend FCR1, from the very get go even. It's challenging and you'll probably die a lot but it really gives the combat the feeling of lethality you'd otherwise miss. Any monster can kill Geralt if you aren't careful, no more disposable trash mobs, even a shitty drowner can do you in.

This feels like it could be some extra content to the game like artorius was to dark souls. Seems like a lot of stuff, but mostly, my problem with it is that they are announcing it before the damn game is even out.
If they announced it months after the game released, it would be no problem, because it does seem like a reasonable amount of content. But announcing additional content BEFORE the game is already out? Seems like they are getting ahead of themselves. They should finish the game as it is before these things start being ideas.

>>12227If they announced it after release, it also means that they can't sell them earlier. To us, it shouldn't make a difference: they're going to make and sell these expansions anyway and we can just wait until they are released to buy them. To the company, it's money they can earn earlier and invest or earn an interest on.
The only other reason people dislike this practice is they seem to think it's content that otherwise would have been in the game. But it probably isn't. The company invested X amount of dollars into the game with intent of generating Y revenue. The expansions would always be treated as a separate investment. They certainly didn't cut 15-20 hours from the game to try and screw us over or something.

Don't really think this is something you can objectively say is a good or bad move. I would have been fine with either approach as long as it was well executed and I'm loving the environments in W3 so far, but not everybody enjoys both. Some hate big open world levels and prefer hand crafted small environments, others are the exact opposite and hate anything even remotely linear.
However the way I see it, the environments in the Witcher games were always kind of trying to be big and open worlds even when they really weren't. So to me Witcher 3 feels like what they wanted to do all along, but couldn't on Bioware's shitty engine with the first game or the earlier version of their own engine with the second.

DOES IT SUFFER FROM SKYRIM COMPLEX?

Should probably do that first to see if you even like the universe and characters. Or at least get a feel for the stories on youtube or something. The game is pretty great for me so far, but it is a direct followup to the events of Witcher 2. Witcher 1 though is kind of its own self contained thing, you don't miss anything for the other games by skipping it.

Those are just shitposters in general and the brunt of shitposters randomly complain about /pol/ even if it wasn't part of the topic - they're the ones who bring it into the thread. You can't have a topic tangentially related to /pol/ without someone complaining about /pol/ thanks to those posters. Same goes for people who randomly tie GG into a topic, derail the thread, and then blame it on GG while spewing go back to your containment board.

It doesn't help that the developers own admission that the downgrade exists just came out recently. It especially doesn't help that even in their own words, they're admitting the downgrade exists while deflecting from the real reasons why they did it. It's insulting to say the least.
For what the game's worth, I can still understand why there's some genuine /v/irgins who are bitter. Amidst the thread of chucklefucks who just want another trainwreck to watch, there's some people who feel really burned by it. Witcher 3 is just too unique a specimen of a game that transcends typical consolization.
Even though I'm downloading it at the moment, I've already lowered my expectations from the days where I was happily expecting another game to push my desktop specs to the limit. Since I recently finished my TW2 playthough I'm more or less situated how TW3 will look.
I can only hope that CDPR reassess what they did and don't repeat this for Cyberpunk 2077 and at least announce from the get-go that it will be on the same level as TW3 for PC users. That way there's less collateral involved. At the same time it will mean yet again another game that won't attempt to reward high-end PC users and then misconstrue their resentment as damage control.

I enjoyed the witcher 1 and 2 for what they were worth. I even bought w2 retail and respected that it came with a proper manual and in game map alongside the game itself and the soundtrack. Retail goodies like that are few and far in between, and it was genuinely DRM free, as in install from disc, and directly run game after.
Those retail reasons may be the only reason I might buy w3 in the future, but for the present, I'm really disappointed in what the completed product is versus what they kept promising the past years. And, even with the downgrade, I'm not even sure if I can even run the game on my GT545. So yeah.

Even the graphics downgrade, its still one hell of a game. Honestly this is the first game since the Orange Box where I'm at the edge of my seat on what happens next, and I'm really excited to see returning characters from previous games and how they affect TW3 storyline.
I upgraded for this game, and I can't max it out. I'm even above the recommended specs. A fucking i7 5820k, 16 gb ddr4 2666mhz ram and gtx 780 3gb SC… and I can only run it on high. Good luck maxing it out.

Pretty much how I feel. I mean sure the game isn't bad but it's the first time CDPR looked like guys who downgraded it to either A: Sell us the game on 2013 graphics and keep the pre-order money or B: Downgrade the game due to consoles. After all, every trailer for Witcher has had the Xbox logo plastered on it, and I don't think they used the Xbone versions in the trailers either. It really wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft said 'We will give you money for the game, BUT the Xbone version has to look on par with all other versions.' Knowing Microsoft something like that really would not be surprising.

It's the Bloody Baron. He hangs himself after his wife die's at the end of the Velen quest line. As well, his daughter practically disowns him, so he feels he has nothing left to live for.
What's even sadder is that if you loot him, you find his daughter's doll -that was given as an apology to her earlier in the questline- lying on the ground below his corpse.

c11c60 No.17348
>>17347
the combat is probably the most challenging its ever been in a Witcher game. Even with FCR mods of the past two games.
the ai bugs out on occasion, but drowners can catch patterns that player is doing. if you try stand there and spam you will get killed quickly. You gotta evade and dodge, you can't parry monsters that don't have swords. I've had drowners evade when I was spaming strong style and then they tried to surround me.
The targeting system has gotten me killed, but nothing mods wont fix. the combat just needs a few tweaks and it will be a good combat system.

Drowners, strangely, are the most intelligent and challenging trash opponents.
>>17347
The combat is actually a big improvement over W2 once you get used to it. Parries, rolls and dodges all have different uses in different situations. All of the signs are useful. The only thing that kind of sucks is strong attacks, I guess, since you can easily upgrade fast attacks to do almost as much damage.
The most important thing is to wear only light armor. Medium and heavy armor slows you down just enough that you can't stun lock certain trash opponents with fast attacks.
a64555 No.17358
+The graphics are great, it's still better than Skyrim, Dragon Age, Ass Creed, and all the other open world AAA trash. I can't run the game on high graphics anyway so I don't really give a damn about a downgrade.
+The quests are great. The witcher contracts all feel like what the Witcher games always should have been about. Gathering clues about the monster, learning its weaknesses, preparing for a difficult fight, and then walking away with a trophy and taking a big cash reward. These are the best quests, with the best writing, of any CRPG, ever. Yes, better even than Planescape and VTMB.
-If there's one issue I have with the main quests it's the bullshit that there's no right choice. Not even that it's a difficult choice, just that you get cunt-punted no matter which you make, with totally unforeseeable indirect consequences. Consequences such as the baron and his wife dying because you released the tree spirit
-I want to keep Geralt clean shaven, but apparently the only way to shave is to go to a barber in Oxenfurt.
-The crossbow is gay. It's only useful if you exploit enemy AI when they get stuck like a faggot. Igni does 10x more damage, and you know igni doesn't do much damage to begin with.
-My biggest complaint: everything related to itemization and the UI is trash. EVERYTHING. Crafting shouldn't have been in the game if they're going to do it like this. Everywhere you go there are glowing sacks to pick garbage out of. You take the garbage to a blacksmith and you can pay him to turn it into crafting components. You buy or find diagrams to build things, but they're level gated, and you can get level 28 item diagrams at level 1, and the level 1 diagrams don't disappear, so your crafting menu will be full of stuff you either can't wear or don't want to because it sucks now. Letters and books don't have their own inventory menu but are split between your potion/bomb window (??????) and quest item window. I have about 50 books and letters cluttering my potion screen. Everywhere you go you will find swords and armor. They have randomized stats like a Diablo game. Since there are orange Relic swords and armors laying in every hidden chest you'll rarely have reason to pick up a plain, blue or yellow item. They sell for less than 10 coins anyway most of the time. You can only equip 2 potions and 2 bombs at a time. Oils only last for 20 hits and then you need to reapply them, which is retarded because oil supplies are unlimited, so it's just another step of tedium of reopening your inventory every 20 hits to reapply. There is apparently a retard at CDProjekt who thinks weapon and armor degradation are fun so enjoy blowing 50+ coins to repair your silver sword at the blacksmith after every quest.
If any enhanced edition comes out it needs to fix itemization and UI. Then this will be the greatest RPG of all time. With UI and itemization broken as it is it's 8/10 at best.

I can only manage on high settings with AO set to SSAO, to get a consistent framerate.
I just upgraded my cpu and ram, when I maxed it out I'm getting a a framerate goes from 35-44 in Novigrad but on Skellige it goes to 22-28.

Don't understood the complaint that choices are morally gray. Do you really need the affirmation that your choice was "the right one" (or even that there are right choices)? Just seems patronizing to me.
Obviously a personal preference, but as such I prefer moral complexity over moral binarism in my vidyer gayms.
Also, provided the crossbow has enough power, it can stagger enemies. Very useful.

No it isn't. Are you playing on easy? They do about 100x more damage than you do at range. The way to beat ranged characters is to dodge their shots while approaching and then slice them up while they're switching weapons.
It is satisfying as heck to dodge out of the way of an arrow and have it hit the guy behind you.
c11c60 No.17398

I meant that you can keep ranged enemies off-balance, it just staggers them.
I was playing on the 3rd difficulty setting but then I was getting annihilated by drowners, so for the most part I'm playing on second easiest difficulty. I'm loving the dodge ability, its made the combat so much more fun.
game is a bit of a grind than past witcher games, but that's made it more challenging.
