>>2390I would like to see a Metroidvania purposed as a horror. As a teenager, Metroid Prime genuinely scared me at times without being a horror game per se - the Space Pirate base in Phendrana was fucking tense. Likewise Dark Souls scared me at times, but let me qualify "scared" - I was scared for my character, not for myself, in both cases. I think a good horror game is about immersing oneself into the character and getting swept along by threats to them, not by having a jumpscare that breaks the fourth wall, which is somewhat how the Amnesia/FFaF games work. Honestly, if I'm focusing on something and I don't notice you come in the room, I am going to get equally shocked by you loudly and unexpectedly asking me if you can use some of my milk in the fridge as I am by some animatronic puppet suddenly appearing in the game. There is so little plot to those style of games that I couldn't give a toss about the characters. I mean, Amnesia tries, but ultimately I can't emphasise with some mingebag wanker that woke up in bad Lovecraft fanfiction one morning. I think a good horror game is all about letting me care about the characters and feel immersed in the lore - which means no platitudes, no obvious cliches, good writing, and a reason to care about the character and feel he/she is vulnerable.

>>7247>tight, open level designThat's pretty much what I was thinking.
Maps that are large in overall area, but will be mostly cramped interiors, alleys and tunnels with the occasional stretch of main road and open square.
Plenty of different houses to hide inside and loot from, the sewers could be a high risk/high reward area with few but dangerous creatures.
I'm a sucker for survival horror and inventory managing and looting. Yeah so far the only zombie setting I can think of at the moment that I enjoyed was Dead Space so I wouldn't mind if the game was in the same universe.
Otherwise, yes, it would have to have something somewhat original or a theme not commonly used.

I don't even want Splatterhouse with modern tech, the reboot done right, or anything like that. I'd be happy with something thoroughly retro, a 2.5 budget download title, an indie spiritual successor, even a really impressive romhack. I don't see any of those things happening, though.

Because Konami. They've been messing up badly lately, moreso than usual, and there's a variety of rumours that it's worse than it appears.
Either way, it's not the first SH game that's ended badly. Usually we end up with a shitty product as well. Too good to be true, really.
Del Toro has been unlucky with his game projects though. This is the second to get pulled out from under him.

I haven't heard about that but del Toro got the rights when it failed, so I think he could do that.

There's an indie P.T.-inspired game called Allison Road in the works. (Pretty heavily inspired but since P.T./SH is dead, they might as well make a P.T. 2.0.)

The only teaser/gameplay video is from last year but apparently there will be a new one in a couple of weeks.
Also earlier this month, the guys making NightCry said they were expecting to have 'some public announcements' at the end of the month. Hopefully something interesting.

I remember hearing this game is gonna be OR enabled.
PT was the scariest game I've ever played in my life hands down, and I would NEVER play that shit with VR tech.
If the game you posted also has VR enabled and is as scary as PT, I would never play it with VR.
Also I don't scary easy, not by any means. Nothing scares me from other movies, games, etc. PT is the only thing that made me shit my pants while playing it. Such a tragedy about what happened to it. I'm shocked that such a good thing had to go to waste.

So there's a first-person spooky spaceship game in the works by Camel 101 (I've never heard of them but it's not their first game. I think it's their first horror game though).
>Sleepers is a survival horror game set in the future, where the player controls a character who wakes up in a spaceship, with no memory of what happened. The spaceship is adrift in space, and most of the crew is dead or insane. The rest is changed…you’ll need to survive and find out what’s going on and what happened to the crew. Sometimes the hostiles can be taken out, but most of the times the best strategy is to run and hide.
>The game is played in first person view. While exploring, the player can pick up and interact with objects like doors, keypads, computer consoles, drawers, machinery, etc and use weapons (both melee and long range).
>The enemy units are powerful and numerous, which means that the player must be stealthy and evade combat when possible. There are weapons aboard the ship, but ammo is very limited.

Has anyone ever played games off of Desura? Apparently it's like Steam Greenlight, but without the Steam part. They sell published/AAA titles as well as indie and free games, and they have a shitload of the latter you probably wouldn't find elsewhere, like this one: http://www.desura.com/games/space-blaster-lines

Hasn't the fandom died down since Machine for Pigs? They still make fan-made levels for the original, don't they?
Frictional did announce the date for SOMA, 22nd of September. It's set in an underwear facility after a disaster of some kind. Robots and monsters. I'm guessing it's basically Amnesia again but they did say the MC doesn't have amnesia.
Another game popped up called Kholat by IMGN.PRO, based on the Dyatlov Pass Incident. I'm not sure if this is going to be a horror game or a walking/exploration game (ala Dear Ester) that's a bit creepy in places. It labels itself as horror and the trailer was setting the mood for that but I found this German LP and it's not spooky at all.

Don't be a smart ass, I already know both were done by The Chinese Room. I figured I implied it.

I don't think anybody enjoyed Machine for Pigs. I'm pretty sure it was impossible to die, so basically no element of fear, and it seemed lazier in terms of glitches (the jumping pig thing was found on the day of release iirc). I don't actually think you get in the same area with a monster at all - maybe one where the pig men ignore you?
Frictional should have paid more attention to what the Chinese Room were doing. It's all well and good making a spooky Dear Esther but that gets old fast.
