Fallout Anonymous 03/23/15 (Mon) 03:34:04 dcc7c4 No. 6147
I'm playing New Vegas for the first time. Just got back the platinum chip but my game crashed before I could leave the Tops with it. I'm wondering now: What's the cut off point for faction alignment? I still don't know who I want to side with. How far can I go with each faction before it keeps me from the others? Any tips for a first timer? Can make this a New Vegas thread or just a general Fallout thread, whichever you guys want.

>>6147 You've already past it. After you get out the first meeting with house and you've met with the reps of the big two.
Basically once they send hunters after you, your pretty much stuck with the faction.
The only ones to worry about are the legion and ncr. Legion is worse because you can kill the asshole in nipton and get fucked up by high level extermination squads.
Brb. Starting a new New vegas playthrough.

>>6147 1) Install the following: NVSE, YUP, NVAC, NVSR and configure them properly as outlined in their instructions. Also disable all auto-saving. That will eliminate 95%+ of the bugs in the game and pretty much all of the crashing.
2) You'll get a quest (Don't Tread on the Bear! or Beware the Wrath of Caesar!) when the next quest in the chain will cut you off from other factions (besides Independent Vegas which can be completed at any point).
>>6150 You're 100% wrong.

Well its been a while. I wouldn't doubt it.
Wish there was a way to just skip the first scene without feeling like a dick.

>>6155 Thanks. I'll look into those mods. So far all I've used are ligthing, retextures, and a fix for sodas. Most of my crashes just come from minimizing it, which isn't out of the ordinary for some games. Do you know when House or Independent get cut off?
And unrelated but skipping around the wikias for it, I found out that I somehow completely missed Rose back in the Outpost, and now I hate myself a little since she was the companion I was most looking forward to.

>>6163 House gets cut off only when you reach the point where you have to kill Mr. house (early Caesar and independent, late ncr). Independent never ends and can be taken at any times. Also no matter what you choose
New Vegas and the surrounding areas get fucked either way

Ok OP, you actually are RIGHT where you are given a clean slate for both NCR and Legion. After you leave the Tops with the Chip, you are given clearance from both factions and basically are reset to zero if you are hated (nothing happens if you are liked). Now, as far as quests are concerned, its up to you. Depending on what ending you are aiming for, you'll eventually reach a point after completing those quests that will prompt 2 (or maybe 3) new quests that basically spell it out to you that you are pissing off the other factions and to stop pursuing that particular quest line. THAT is your limit, one more quest in that and you anger the other factions (Yes man doesn't care, and I'm 60% sure House doesn't either but if you are choosing either of those endings, both NCR and Legion will hate you.)

Whenever you progress too far into one line, the other two get cut off. You'll get a quest when you do a few quests for one faction saying that their agents/spies/etc are watching you. This is essentially your warning that you're nearing the cutoff. This means it's possible to play all sides for a little while. Yes Man is the exception, he is always accessible no matter what you do, and basically serves as the backup in case you murder everyone.

>>6718 NCR and legion technically call you to kill house at some point. I'm pretty sure it's really early on for Caesar and mid ncr.

>>6718 >>6737 Alright, thanks. I did get the mark from Vulpe and the note from the ambassador. I'm still not really sure what side to go with so I think I'm just going to leave New Vegas for a while, wander the wastelands doing sidequests and maybe the DLC, and then decide after a while.

>>6836 I made a save point after getting the platinum chip and just did Caesar's ending first because he's pissy. After I did that one, I reloaded and you can play the House/NCR off each other for awhile up until they need you to kill him. Another save point, killed Mr. House, then got the NCR ending because I felt like knocking it out first. Then I went through and did the House ending, saved before he needs you to go to the Dam, reloaded to kill him and did Yes Man. It wasn't the most efficient way to get them, but as long as you set up saves before you cut anyone off you can go through and get them all in one playthrough.

I both look forward to and dread playing this when I get my PC soon. On one hand it got incredibly boring, especially starting up in the game as there wasn't a whole lot of choice to be had. And on the other hand, there's mods to alleviate that. I know I'll end up playing it again but I hope I don't get bored to hell because I've already sunk a ton of hours into it on consoles.

>>9177 When you start the game you can go north straight to Vegas. Of course, you have to MGS your way past cazadors and deathclaws, but it's certainly doable. If you do this you can goto the Atomic Wrangler and raise enough money to get the INT implant at the new vegas clinic and get 10 INT at level 1 if you set yours to 9 and get maximum skill points. Completely pointless since I'm pretty sure you get enough skill points to max everything out at max level anyway because of skill books and such, but something to do anyway.

I'm pretty far into New Vegas now, and I'm starting to consider giving Fallout 3 another go. I've been told Tale of Two Wastelands is a must have for it, but I'm confused on how it works. It forces the two games together? Is it a mod for both? Would it fuck with my New Vegas save? And does it change the story?
I might just download 3 separately and just mod it rather than risk it fucking with my New Vegas game.

I got the fallout 1 and 2 on gog when they were having the free deal to say fuck you to bethesda pulling them.
Are they any good? I haven't had time to play them yet, are they crpg's or what?

CRPGs, yeah. Classics of the genre too. Both are good, but Fallout 2 improves on a lot in the first.

keep in mind that you can save mid combat.
I almost smashed my keyboard when the enemy ambushing me killed me in one turn because of critical miss on my part after kiting them for 30-ish turns (half an hour into the game no less)

In the combat perspective, the writing and plot take a nosedive in Fallout 2..
