Sometimes I feel like I am the only one on gods green earth who liked this and the original series, especially after the fixes they made in the recent version.

The story is nonsense but as far as being a western interpretation of DMC I think this is pretty much spot on. It feels extremely alien and familiar at the same time, which is pretty impressive. I guess I kind of love it for just how strange it is, it really is a curious game, the closest I can compare it to is Metal Gear Solid actually, it just has this really weird blend of eastern and western elements in it.

afc4a7 No.6310

Those fixes should have been in the original game.

its a fine game. it's not a fine Devil May Cry game.

65396b No.6326

The main character was totally unlikeable, the dialogue was cringeworthy and the combat was slower than the previous games, those are most of my concerns, otherwise it's a good game as hack n slash games go, hell it's better than Killer Is Dead.

That being said, Donte is not a very likeable character, how he is portrayed as an edgy drunkard teenage slut who has no qualms showing his manhood to random strangers and literally lives in a trailer and gives no fucks, seems like a person with midlife crisis is trying to write a character that "the kids seem to be into these days". Throughout the story, he shows no motivation to go forth and the concern he supposedly has for Kat is really forced.

The dialogue is quite possibly the most cringe inducing I have ever experienced in any form of media I have seen.
>The world is at last your bitch, as am I
>Me, a god, versus you, a piece of shit
and many more of the like, how am I supposed to take this as serious character building?

Combat was pretty slower paced than earlier games, with no lock on, the devil trigger flung the enemies in the air idiotically, making then harder to attack and wasting most of the trigger time on just managing to reach them midair, then the color coded enemies just broke combat variety and continuity by limiting to only one weapon. The style meter is broken on the most fundamental level that counts total damage count rather than variety of attacks used. The Difinitive Edition fixes some of these but it aslo disables community mods that disables features that the users did not like. I won't give them any credit for adding these features because:
1) They did not do anything DMC didn't already do.
2)They should have added these features on the first released edition.
3)They did these over 2 years after the game released.
4)They are selling this as a whole new edition for profits rather than release a patch or a free addon to the people that already bought the game.

Well, in my opinion, the dialogue was hilarious, I was like most others who at first thought the dialogue was horrible. But to be honest, the more I played the more I realized that the majority was played for laughs. Yeah it's potty humor at the highest level but I can't deny that I laughed out loud at the "DONKEY PUNCH!" when hitting the Succubus and similar lines.

The more serious dialogue is fine I think, it's well written and acted, just boring, it's not very interesting, and imo it kind of highlights that DMC does not play well when it takes itself seriously. The game is definitely at its worst when it tries to actually have plot and character development.

And as much as NT would never admit it, 30 fps hold back the game MASSIVELY, it is slower, because if it was faster it simply wouldn't work at 30fps, so it's nice to see a mode that is actually designed around the 60fps, turbo mode is also great, and really highlights how goddamn slow and floaty the vanilla speed feels at 60fps.

Seriously, I don't even mind 30fps, my eyes adapt quickly, but making DmC 30 was the biggest mistake DmC made. Hardcore mode really highlights just how more forgiving and slow the game had to be made because of 30fps.

Must Style Mode.

I never played the original series but I enjoyed this game. Was the dialog award winning? No, but it wasn't completely terrible. Can I compare how well this games mechanics were to previous games, no, but I can say I never was butthurt at the game for not giving me a good fight. This game was good campy fun in my opinion.

Oh, and seamless access to all of Dante's weapons. That was handled so damn well I remapped my DMC3 controls to it.

af0e84 No.6534

DmC suffers from what Doom 3 does, it's own series.

Before hand you had several things in it's predictors that the newer one doesn't or things that weren't really "invited" to the party. That being said it would have been better received had it been a starting of a game rather than a reboot of a previous existing one with a series behind it. Pretty much why I didn't like Doom 3 and was not going to get the reboot a chance after hearing the things that were in the original game. No, I'm not judging it based on the white hair but the story and the mere fact of the things that were actually legit like the combat system in of itself

Yeah, if this game didn't have the DMC name, people would be calling it "The next Devil May Cry" and "What the 3D Castlevanias wanted to be".

On an unrelated note, during the final boss fight, this part made me immediately think this: *teleports behind u* *unsheathes katana*

Lords of Shadow is ten times better than DmC though. Even the dregs of the genre like Ninja Blade have more involved and better designed mechanics than DmC. If this game didn't have brand recognition, it would've been completely ignored.

67eb29 No.6841

I don't think theres anything I can say about DmC that wasnt already said before me, but I did not care for it, I may have give it a chance when it was cheap but the way the devs and media acted killed any interest I had for the game, but instead I ended up pirating it and deleting it the same day after 3hrs of playing it

165835 No.6861

It's a mediocre game.

It's a shitty Devil May Cry game. And the way the developers and publisher handled it was just salt on the wound. And a fucking rerelease was not necessary. Everyone else here summed up my criticisms on the game.

And it shows. I lost more respect for them when I find out they removed "problematic" dialogue for the SJW crowd. Too bad SJWs don't buy vidya.

That change came so out of left field, but I really didn't care, changing 1 line of dialogue does not fix a bad game

Gameplay was mediocre. It was too slow and floaty for the genre. I liked the "modifier button" approach to weapon-switching but it just couldn't make up for the rest. The color-coded enemies would've been sorta okay if your attacks didn't bounce off them, interrupting the flow of combat. A lot of it was also just way too easy. There were some parts I had trouble with (though that's mostly because I'm not very good at spectacle fighters) but compared to, say, my runs through DMC3/4 it was clearly easier in every way. I didn't have to struggle nearly as hard to overcome the AI.

The story is irredeemably awful. It looks like something a typical rebellious teenager wrote. The themes are blatant and incredibly forced with equally apparent real-life analogues (Not-Bill-O'Reilly); it forgoes all subtlety in favor of trying to make absolutely sure that even the most dense player "gets" the message. What really bothers me is that the game had some really cool shit in it, such as Limbo. Limbo was the best fucking part of the game and it was done incredibly well in the first couple levels but it just can't carry the rest of the baggage the game has.

>>6326
>seems like a person with midlife crisis is trying to write a character that "the kids seem to be into these days"
Seems pretty spot on to me.

>>6334

It's only hilarious after you realize how bad it is. Frankly, I would've liked the game a lot more had it been shipped with those ridiculous Mexican edits. Hell, I would still pay real money for a version of the game with the story done like that.

I didn't like it, the combat reasons have all been said but what completely ruined DMC for me was when they did this weird Vergil is the smart one, Dante is the strong one dynamic in DMC3 Vergil is stronger than Dante till the last fight. Not to mention they made "I don't use guns" Vergil use a rifle to shoot that pregnant chick in the stomach and head, too edgy too out of character.

El Donte mode would have redeemed the game for me. It's pretty fucking great.

But fucking Tameem has no sense of humor he'd probably call it racist or some other fucking xenophobic culturally unaware slur like that.

This is it really.

The game is alright, a nice God of War type game, but its not cahrayzee, that, and the fact that the devs shat on the original for long time, than started pandering to them after they were getting alot of hate.

I feel like the main problem they had was they took the middle ground, and by that i mean that the game is to similar to the others for people to think of it as its own thing, and its too different to really fit in with the other games.

I honestly believe if they made it more like a side-story instead of a semi-reboot it probably would of done better.

The gameplay would of been different, but then you could make the argument that it wasn't Dante so it had to be different.

68eea8 No.7428

>>6868
Shame that. Definitive Edition did a good job in ironing out its flaws.

>>6870
They dropped that line because it was absolute shit. Then again the writing of the game isn't anything good to begin with. I'm pretty sure the sockjews would've had more problem with Vergil sniping a demon fetus. Which brings me to >>7130. Yeah, pretty out of character, but he said himself that he wasn't going to give up the opportunity. Gotta remember that Vergil wanted to rule mankind and that Mundus and his spawn were serious competition for him. He's corrupt and a total hypocrite, and is only "honorable" until it doesn't suit him. Dante gave him numerous chances during the final boss to stop being a dickhead and he didn't take any of them.
