Dear people of /svidya/, I am looking for advice.

Right now I have roughly half a month of Wildstar playing time left. My guild has just disbanded, its members scurried to the winds. And I am now left doing mundane tasks. I could search for a new guild, OR…

A few of my IRL 'buddies' have been asking me if I could rejoin their ranks in WoW instead. Scroll of Resurrection should be possible if it still existed ( I do not know if there is a replacement program for that thing yet )

Question is, should I just buy 2 months of WoW gametime and level up my toon in World of Warcraft and see where it leads me ? Or will I be pummelled into a severe state of dissapointment when I see Azeroth again ? After all I spend quite a bit of time on Nexus enjoying its plethora of diversity and graphical fidelity.

Oh, yea, I will need to make new toons on the Alliance side since that is where they play. I rather dislike leveling though, ahwell, I'll manage ( even if I will not like it )

Bonus question :
Since I'm probably going to end up wanting a tank-char, ( since the DPS race in PVE ( raiding ) is rather boring to me… Healing is ohkay though ) I have narrowed my choices down to Paladin or Death Knight. Monk would be totally new to me since I left early Cataclysm expansion, but I could always try it. ( Warrior probably makes a 4th place in my personal ranking, mostly due to nostalgia of vanilla. Below that is Druid since I did not like its mechanics or looks )

Are there any words of advice and/or recommendations that could be bestown upon me ? I would be grateful for any and all usable advice.

From what I understand, and this is purely on heresay, WoD has made wow into a single player skinner box experience. They effectively replaced dailies with doing stuff in your own instanced home. Everything else is apparently just the same as when Cata came in, same skill requirement
>read: none
same convoluted story that is borrowing off the nostalgia of Burning Crusade rather than doing anything substantially new. WoW is dying just as much as Wildstar is/has/will, it's just going to be a lot slower in its decline. Most people have already experienced the new expansion buzz and have now settled in a state of doing daily house quests, queing for LFRs, or whatever other tiny task that caters to them, so there won't be that fervor in the lower zones, making questing still the chore it always was. Honestly, the experience itself could only be salvaged if your friends are actually active and fun enough to hang around with, because that probably is not going to come from the game solely. That's my opinion OP, take it as you will.

You should give XIV a try instead. It's honestly the only good subscription based MMO on the market right now.

Would it be a good game for someone who has hardly any exposure to FF aside from tactics advance?

seconding this.

choice for a sub if you just want one character for 13 bucks a month which is all ya need.

been very good on updates compared to anything out there. gw2 literally hasn't updated for shit in two years most of those updates you can't play becaused they basically were removed. wow adding next to nothing and pushing back shit that was said to be at launch to later update and rather spend time putting in selfie feature and twitter.

>>6655
you really don't need much ff exposure its final Fantasy themed in recurring characters like cid and such but its own story which you will have to play through to unlock content which aint bad but it does get kinda of slow for ques as a dps for those first time dungeons to move forward in the story.
if you can make it to the 50 story which was with the game at launch then you'll probably stick around the game forever cause each update has added far better story then before as well as the side story Hildebrand

3e3cc3 No.6657

>>6655
Yes. It has its own lore and shit. Like all of the main numbered FF entries. There's still FF related stuff, like chocobos and shit, but you don't really need to know previous games for it.

I don't like FF in general, outside of 9, and I really enjoy XIV if that means anything to you.

Also if you're looking for some fags to play with there's <<nWo>> which is an 8chan FC on Exodus. You can find the info in the /v/ threads or on >>>/xiv/.

I don't really keep up with the /v/ threads anymore cause it's cuckchan people shitposting their cats and trying to get people to join the ERP guilds like <<Pure>> or <<Saint>>, but I own /xiv/ and run the FC.

Awesome, Im currently playing Tera for the first time and absolutely adore the combat. Which
>>6576 (OP) might be interested in as the only reason I liked W* was the combat was actually pretty fun and I think Tera's is actually really awesome for an MMO. How's gameplay right now? Is it based on personal skill and active or is it tab target and somewhat passive? Is the overall leveling somewhat grindy?

Wildstar is dead as fuck, any MMO would be a better pick right now.

They really should pull the plug and just relaunch like how FFIV did it.

I played a little with the Tera anons from /v/ on the US server and they seemed like a chill bunch. I don't know if that's still the case, it was back in january. I just like XIV better personally so I went back then formed <<nWo>>.

Also, if you do give XIV a try my best advice for you is to honestly stay away from the Balmung server. That's where all the halfchan /xivg/ people play, including <Saint> and <Pure>. Join up with a normie FC on some other server instead at the very least.

6c50f6 No.6669

>>6667
Yeah, they are still pretty chill. Playing with them now. And I'll have to get in on that some time, if I do I'll make sure to look up your guild.

If you do, you need to know that XIV closes its servers at certain times. Your best bet for NA servers like Exodus is to try early in the day. If you're EU it doesn't matter cause all the servers are located in Canada or some shit so the latency will be the same if you play on a NA server. I think Moogle was the unofficial French server, but I'm not sure. If you plan to just join some random guild then it doesn't really matter probably, the closing times only effect the higher pop servers. At some point they're supposed to release actual EU servers but lolidunno.

And if you do the trial you can't join guilds or send tells, but you can join linkshells and we have one on Exodus which is what we mostly use. A few people aren't in <nWo> so we use the linkshell to chat.

Other than that the trial is a good way to see if you like it or not. I believe by level 20 on any job is when the trial locks the rest of the content, so you could do all the jobs to level 20. I think around then is when you get to fight Ifrit normal too, but I can't remember.

XIV has pretty good end-game stuff if that's what you want. I don't know how Tera is cause I didn't get that far, but I played a priest and thought the combat/healing was pretty fun. XIV's PVP isn't that great from what I've heard so if that's what you're looking for XIV probably won't be your cup of tea. I can't really say for certain though, cause I always liked PvE more and usually never fuck around with PvP.

The only redeeming thing about WoW is the same as it has been since BC: Raiding. If you don't plan on raiding, don't even bother; there's nothing to do.

I heard the same things sadly. I also just learned that there are a lot of people agreeing with eachother that Stormtalons Lair ( http://www.jabbithole.com/zones/stormtalons-lair-19 ) has more tactics to it than WoW's LFR.
This worries me greatly, for when I'm spending 12 Euro's a month I sort of want to get my money's worth of fun and challenge out of it. Facerolling is neither fun nor challenging.

>>6649
I'll look into that, but Final Fantasy and I are not really on that good terms since Final Fantasy XI

>>6650
Hah, I wish I had the powers to convince those people.
Stockholm Syndrome.
PDD-NOS.
And I am pretty sure that is just the tip of the iceberg.
If I'd be able to convince them to leave WoW I'd have so much charisma ( power to convince others ) that I could convince Ken Ham to join Scientology.

>>6663
I did the open beta of Tera a few years back, I was not overall impressed by the different classes or their mechanics, and the pedo-fairies *cringe*.
If I am going to dive into a new MMO I'd prefer to do it with someone else who is also new, so you can be "dumb" together.

>>6664
43 people in Thayd at 02:00, most of which are idling ( Thayd is the Exiles capital city ). I have no idea whether those are Jabbit only people or Megaserver people, if the latter, yes the game is really dead… or they might all be hiding at player housing.

>>6688
Oh, but I want to raid. Shout profanity at eachother over VOIP when you fail, and shout even more profanity at eachother when you succeed.

After a night worth of rest and sleep I think I've came to a shocking conclusion.
If I have not come across a MMO offer or alternative idea that fancies me by the end of the month I'm going to spend time in a gym.
Instead of grinding levels and alts i'll be grinding the MMO-fat away.

There are probably less worthy causes in the world.

I can confirm this firsthand. I played WoW a lot back in the day, 30 hours/week going up to 50 during university holidays in BC and Wrath. I got WoD out of curiosity and nostalgia, and it's exactly as you say at max level: a skinner box where you send your followers to do dailies - you don't even do dailies, you manipulate NPCs via menus. The levelling experience is good, in fairness, but it's too short - you easily get ludicrously overpowered for any given zone and miss the story/atmosphere which is great for as long as you have a reason to be out amongst it (a week, tops). It's a sad indictment of the gaming industry that I think subbing just to experience the levelling is still more worth it than most AAA releases.

Wildstar was really good, I'd still be playing it, but they should've made it pay once and you're good.
I stopped playing because when I pay monthly for a game it starts to feel like an obligation to play it, and that's not what I want. If it was $15 for a month of time logged in I'd be down, but otherwise FUCK that shit.

There's no reason for monthly fees anymore.

It's the only good MODERN subscription based MMO on the market.

I was subbed to XIV for the better part of last year and eventually got tired of the incredibly samey patches and gear treadmill, got the bright idea to spend a month dicking around in FFXI again and I'm surprised to find just how much I'm enjoying it. Actual content, interesting jobs, free-form combat, in-depth zones with tons of secrets, I had forgotten MMOs could actually do all these things after GW2, XIV and Wildstar.

That said I really can't recommend people get into XI fresh unless they're cool with a more old-school experience and aren't against busting out a wiki for every other quest, but even today it's twice the game XIV is.

This is only annecdotal but a friend who played WoW religiously with his guild and couldn't praise the last expansion as the best ever played it for about three weeks tops because there was nothing else to do.

*couldn't praise it enough I meant.

If you're not mythic raiding (or PvPing I guess) in WoW, the game is total shit. Although I personally feel it's always been that way, and other MMOs don't really seem better in that department but have worse raiding.

I've come to an understanding I'm not really an MMO person, though, but there don't seem to be any games with a dungeon/raiding style and all the excess shit stripped out.
