>Marginally easier than DS1 >WORST GAME EVER HOLY SHIT Is it really that much worse? I'd give DS1 a 9.5/10, but II a 9/10. It had a few missteps, but they were mostly not a big deal. Why is this game considered to be so much worse than the rest of the series?

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. This should help you understand, it has nothing to do with the game being "easier". If someone is saying that they are probably just trying to fit in.

looking back on DaS2 after the hype died down and knowing about the graphics downgrade, and now playing bloodborne and thinking back on the many things about DaS2 that I didn't like, such as the environment in general, I realize that at it's core…DaS2 really wasn't a souls game.

I found Dark Souls 2 harder than 1, but maybe that's because I didn't spend as much time on it. Overall I liked 2 a little more than 1, but I didn't like either as much as Demon's Souls

A good game, AND a good Souls game. A fantastic sequel to Demon's Souls that would have been well-received and been given 10s across the board if DaS hadn't come out in between the two. DeS was a wonky, but incredible game. DaS was a weighty, lore-filled game. DaS2 was a strange amalgamation of both games but sacrificed a little of lore for more "gamey" level-design that paid off excellently if you weren't playing DaS1 for the atmosphere. And who WOULD play a Castlevania ripoff for the atmosphere?
Anonymous 03/28/15 (Sat) 16:38:44 812f80 No. 8619
But the game could be considered harder, since it loves to pull bullshit more that DaS or DeS. The criticism has more to do with the world and some gameplay changes. I still find it a excellent game, though.

>soul memory That single mechanic fucked up so much it's not even funny. It single handedly killed invasions and ruined pvp
>level designThe transition from area to area makes no fucking sense. Going from a castle to a lava place in the middle of fucking nowhere was illogical and a bit jarring. It feels as though some areas in between others were cut
>hit boxes The hit boxes ruined the game for me. I shouldn't get hit a mile away from something after I dodge

He's a long winded fuck that:
A. should Get Gud
B. there were some serious design over sights but that's because B-Team etc…
the game is still 8.5 or better and I say better.

>>9150 Did you space out in the beginning or something? The very first thing he says is that he still liked the game, it just didn't live up to Dark Souls for him and he spent an autism filled hour spelling out every little reason why. That's his style, and I enjoy it. I don't always agree with him on every tiny point, but he hits everything.
>he starts by getting butt hurt over gender and womynsIt is a really minor thing to complain about, but it IS a botched opening compared to any of the other Souls games. This isn't just because it implies the main character should be male, it flies right in the face of how the openings were handed in the previous games. They had no reason to do the opening that way, it didn't make the game better, but they did it anyway and the game is worse off for it even if only a tiny bit.
That was really the entire point he was trying to get at throughout the whole video, Dark Souls II suffers from a lot of bad design oversights that were the result of pointless changes, it could have been a much better game had they put more thought into these things. You can't just say "Oh it was just the B-Team!" as if that somehow excuses everything.

So I'm legitimately thinking about pirating/buying DaS2 when the rerelease comes out. I never played DaS2 but I'd like more of that souls feel since I can't play bloodborne. Hitboxes might not be too bad for me since I plan on going into adaptability anyway since it looked like a great stat. Is it a good game? Maybe it doesn't compare as good as DaS, but is is good?

I didn't feel it was easier, but the bosses didn't really feel like bosses. They felt more like the black knights in 1. All humanoid, and not very threatening. It also had quite a handful of balance issues. For instance, Last Giant had to be nerfed. Twice.

I honestly like Dark Souls 2 over 1. I never gave a shit about lore or atmosphere hell I killed all the NPCs in my first play through of Dark 1. Having more bonfires and less shortcuts never bothered me and I really like the bosses in 2 more than 1 the Ivory King was amazing.

That being said, Shrine of Amana on release was a little bit of horseshit. Mainly that you had to dodge each of the projectiles twice because after one roll they'll just curve around and hit you anyway.

>easier The problem is that it was HARDER, not easier. It was harder in the frustrating, bad design way, not in the challenging way of the previous Souls games. The design is fucking horrible with cheap deaths all over the fucking place. The Souls games were never about being hard, they were just well-designed action RPGs that just so happened to have a high learning curve where, once you understood the mechanics and game logic, you could always succeed. Souls II throws that out the window on multiple occasions and feels like an attempt to capitalize on the "lol hardest game ever xDD" hype instead of delever a good game. It has no soul.
