What do you guys think of this game?

It received critical acclaim on its release, but as it's been a while since then, I'm interested to what your opinions are, and how, if at all, they have changed since it was released.

Still one of my favourites of 2013, my only reservation is that it was a little easy and the non linear dungeon arrangement didn't allow for a steady increase in difficulty.

Also the wall merge mechanic probably wasn't used to its fullest extent.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't like it at all.

It was ugly, had no difficulty, raped a classic game's world and art style, and worst of all people were declaring it to be the second coming of Jesus. The music was the only good part.

Between this and Super Mario 3D World, I've developed a significant amount of cynicism toward the press and the Nintendo fanbase on the web for hyping these mediocre games. I had already been pretty sour about Paper Mario 3D and such. It seemed like there was a while there where Nintendo was intent on making nothing but low-effort iterations of their popular franchises to first save the 3DS when it wasn't selling, and then the Wii U.

Regardless, I still consider myself a Nintendo fan; especially as long as they keep brilliant and innovative games like Kid Icarus Uprising coming out. I'm optimistic because Nintendo has shown a lot of signs that they realize that chasing the fickle casual market isn't really a sustainable core for their business. They need the core (but still family friendly) titles to support their hardware install base and dedicated fans; which also will support their future forays into casual mobile gaming and whatnot.

ALBW I can easily understand why someone might not like it, but what do you have against 3D World?

The level design was sub-par for a Mario game. I know it was designed to be wide for multiplayer; but the NSMB games didn't have to sacrifice their tight platforming to get there.

I'd place 3D Land ahead of it in every way, and that game wasn't amazing.

I highly disagree, the level design in 3D World is solid across the board. I liked 3D Land too, but World was much better for me.

Since release and even now I consider it to be one of my least favorite Zelda games to date. The character models are ugly, the music is mediocre midi remixes, it's too easy, and it just feels like it's riding on the coat tail of A Link to the Past because "OMG RETRO GAMES R SO COOL"
Simply making a Zelda game open-world doesn't instantly make it a masterpiece, and I wish the industry's masses would take this into consideration before jerking over something so tasteless and bland.

It's one of the nostalgia cash-in 3DS games that I own but hate owning. The others being Yoshi's New Island, Sticker Star, and Super Mario 3D Land.

Loved it

The liner dungeons were a nice change up and money finally served a purpose.

The story was simple and nice, I liked the ending

Music was Excellent, best part of the game

My only major complaint was the lack of new items

Gonna preface my post by saying this was my first Zelda game since I had just picked up a 3ds and was looking for anything decent.

I really enjoyed it. I think letting the player have all the items off the bat is a good decision since it lets you play around and experiment with whatever combo you enjoy the most. It's also good for replayability, since on any subsequent playthough you won't have to slog 2/3rds of the way through the game to get your favorite item. I think there was a missed opportunity to hide more shit in dungeons that didn't require the dungeon's gimmick item to get to though. I really expected the 2d gimmick to be terrible but It was implemented well, and I felt retarded when I tried everything I could think of except simply morphing into a wall.

I agree with other anons that the game is way too easy though.

95257e No.10912

I think it's a 10/10 game.

2a76fc No.13795

It's overrated. Looks fine (the 3D is actually very well-adjusted, though the art style is fairly bland), runs great, plays fine, but it feels like New Link to the Past Brothers, only less difficult and without an interesting plot or progression mechanic (as all items are available pretty much immediately). The wall-flattening gimmick feels interesting and fresh the first time or 5, but it grows stale fast, especially once you realize it's functionally not that different from WW's wall-hugging.

On the whole, I found it to be mediocre and forgettable.

Best Zelda game since Wind Waker, hands down. It could have been better had it had a completely original overworld and hadn't been tied to ALttP at all, but considering it began as a remake of sorts, they did the best they could with what they had to work with. The gameplay is the best of any top-down Zelda, and it was a huge breath of fresh air considering how filler-heavy and slow-paced other Zelda games have been recently.

>without an interesting plot
And Link to the Past had one? Come on.

>As your uncle lays dying his last words are "Protect the princess!"
>Imprisoning War intro shit
>sage descendants are being kidnapped by an evil wizard
>turns out he's just the puppet of the Prince of Theives who in ages past possessed the power of the gods and is trying to escape his imprisonment
>go forth into the sacred realm twisted by his deranged mind into a dark mirror Hyrule and finish him off

vs

>Our world that has no real established history but is essentially a mirror of Hyrule lost its Triforce, so I sent my court jester to steal yours~ Sincerely, Princess Nega-Zelda

>Oh no, he was really Ganon's reincarnation!

It's not that other Zelda games are epic masterworks of fiction, but that LBW seems dumbed-down in comparison to its inspiration, in more ways than one.

That isn't what happened in ALBW at all, I don't think you were paying attention.

It told me Nintendo still knows how to make a Zelda game after the abortion that was Skyward Sword. It wasn't great, but it was Zelda.

342598 No.13831

I think the primary reason people love it and praise it to such a degree is because it came off the heels of the abysmal Skyward Sword and was basically its complete antithesis, which for the most part was a good thing.

I think it's pretty good, but it definitely showed the potential flaws of a completely open-ended world design combined with modern Zelda's reduced difficulty. Hopefully Zelda U tightens things up with the time it has.

I paid attention, but as I said, it was forgettable.
