Seeing as how this is too niche to keep alive on /v/ and there's a few similar threads doing well here I figured I'd give it a shot.

iDOLM@STER is a franchise where you manage idols and try to get them to the top of the industry. There's also a few rhythm only spin offs. The main cast consists of 13 girls aged from 13-21 with varying personalities, there's also spin offs that offer an even wider range of idols to choose from but aren't currently on console. The latest title came out last year for the PS3 called One For All which added more RPG elements as well as improved the system created in a previous game, iDOLM@STER 2 (despite the title it isn't the second game made). There's also a PS4 game in development, but not much is known about it other than it's a completely reworking in game play and models.

Currently the only game brought overseas officially is Shiny Festa, a simple rhythm game. It's been stated in an interview that there's plans for bringing over a console main title in the future. http://pastebin.com/3sikEZyL

For those that want to give the games a shot there's also the PSP games titled SP that are partly fan translated and can be emulated on PC. http://www.yukipo.com/the-idolm-ster-psp/the-idolm-ster-sp

If you have any questions I've played most of the games and know moon so I'd be glad to respond to them.

859aa3 No.8961

Idolm@s 2 is probably one of my top games I plan on playing as I get more moon runes under my belt. When I played the first translated PSP game I had a blast, and I enjoyed the anime.

Cinderella Girls is dead boring though.

>>8961
I'd say it depends on what you prefer. iM@S 2 is more difficult to beat and can be replayed as much as you please but you're limited to using fast BPM songs, iM@S OFA is easier to beat and only has an endless mode but you're able to use the full range of songs included. There's also been complaints about the writing in iM@S 2 while I haven't heard any about OFA.

19ee3f No.8970

>>8963
iM@S2 does have the time management element where getting everything you need can be tight but I found that individual events get a lot more challenging in OFA. Some of the equips in 2 were broken.

I think I would have liked OFA more if it had a time limited mode even if it was an unlocked side mode like in SP. OFA's S ranked events up the difficulty, but besides that you're able to just grind until you can beat it. The skill boards were more enjoyable than having to collect the equips though, definitely.

I guess they wouldn't have included a song in the game if it was unusable, but for convenience's sake I mostly see people using fast BPM songs like ai like hamburger and kiramekirari.

Every singer can sing every song besides certain ones that are either rival only (which is only one or two songs) and one solo song in the latest game where each of the 13 girls were given their own solo song. This one for example is a rival song.

Princess Bride? You mean that non imas song used in that Haruka video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-l2Utfv4GPE
At least that's what comes to mind.

If you mean the song in that clip it's called Kyun! Vampire Girl.

I like how idolmaster has each girl sing each song as you get some surprising combos. Having duos, trios, and quintets also means even more combinations you can make singing wise. You also get to choose their costumes, accessories, and camera angles.

There's some fan made group versions of some songs by putting the solo versions together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5slrnY3lmA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP_AmmKGogw

Oh. That would explain it. I thought it was in one of the games.

I have seen some good idol set-ups but I'm still in the process of finding out whose voice I like. The overly cutesy ones like the twins and Yayoi can get kind of annoying. I understand they're popular but not my cup of tea.

There's a lot of videos with imas paired with other songs as people enjoy having the idols dance to them. Funny enough some of these songs later got covered.

Another factor is some idols sound different on different songs, like Miki for example.
Cute song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lu6_nIt_Crw
Cool song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcG5LjSxz4
Or Hibiki
Cute song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-oYn96uLBQ
Cool song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzSrw9fX14o

That's because the dances are different for different positions. For example here's a quintet version of a song.

I really hope that stuff starts getting released outside of Japan. A lot of Japan's stuff is seeing PC ports and I'd love to see this series become a part of that trend.

Anybody have any suggestions about learning moonspeak? I'd love to get invested into something like that but I hear so many different opinions on it, what's effective and what isn't.

>Anybody have any suggestions about learning moonspeak? I'd love to get invested into something like that but I hear so many different opinions on it, what's effective and what isn't.

The most important part is to pick something and get started. Grind kana out, choose a way to work on the basics (Genki, Tae Kim, Kanji Damage, RTK, whatever else is popular), and come up with a practice schedule that you can easily manage. You can always switch over to other learning material and see how that compares after you have a little momentum. It shouldn't take long for you to be able to puzzle out some basic raws.

The language in iM@S isn't very advanced once you get past a few characters' quirks and fill out your idol/office/everyday vocabulary a little. You can start with some of the official manga series since you don't need kanji for most of those. The games are a bit tougher and you'll have to get used to only understanding a little of what's going on at first. It definitely gets better as you go along. I crawled through my first route and swaggered through my second.

Thus far the only genre imas has covered are the main games which are a mix of rhythm and simulation, the rhythm only games, social mobile "games", and a series of mini games that is forgotten by most. Although puchi have gotten a lot of merch and their own plush since they last appeared in the series, so maybe they'll show up again at some point.

The game can be enjoyable, but for the most enjoyable experience it helps to know what the girls are saying, although it's not as important as it used to be.

There was a VR demo last year using the OFA office, so maybe sony plans on using the series for a VR title in the future. If it's going to be a gimmick it's probably best to have it as it's own title like G4U first rather than straight into a main game.

I've favorited a lot of videos and only two got pulled (a popular video using a non imas song, and a smaller video with a remix, might have been pulled by the owner).

Another thing is you might want to archive your favorites. I don't do so myself, but if you really want to rewatch them it's best to do so. Youtube is very pull heavy. I've looked back at one of my favorite lists from back when youtube started with 2,000 videos or so in total, and over half of them were removed.

It's not what I want to see in the PS4 title, it's what I want to hear in the PS4 title.

I want more ambient sounds in the game, basically. Like the sound of waves crashing in the distance when you're dragging Yukiho to the beach, or the hustle and bustle of the crowd when you're talking shop with Ritsuko, or even the sound of rain hitting the window when you're inevitably roped into doing something stupid with the twins to piss the rainy day away. Also, crowd chants. With 720-degree noscope surround sound featuring BASS CANNON optimization.

… I suppose fully animated 3D backgrounds would be nice, but yeah.

I'm pretty sure there were sounds like that included in earlier games and gravure for you. It's actually kind of annoying to hear loud trains go by or people shouting on roller coasters while you're trying to listen to them talk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2GEnZWCc90

As for on stage unless you have an option to turn it off we usually only have those versions to go off of as they release master boxes so slowly.

The best thing about the game version is that Ritsuko is part of the song.
Man, there were so many wrong things with the movie…

Yeah Ritsuko got the short end of the stick a lot in second vision. I get she's not always supposed to be an idol, but reducing her role like that is disappointing to people that like her.

It hurts being a Ritsukofag.
