In the grand scheme of fiction t's conceivable a ghost might prefer puppeting its old shambling corpse around instead of being purely ethereal.

For example, there are magic barriers that are extremely tough for spirits to cross, but as long as you're a soul in a meaty shell, it's no big deal at all. Combine that with something magically deadly to normal life, like a super high-powered negative energy wall, and you've got a situation where only a ghost in a zombie body can pass. And it must, or we're all doomed!

This is especially relevant if you go with official D&D fluff, which states that ghosts are the only type of undead that isn't either inherently Evil or will eventually succumb to Evil. The ghost-zombie combo would be the one corporeal undead that you could trust to stay devoted to Good. Which would be great in that previous double barrier scenario.

>Humans have pretty bad digestive systems.

This is very, very wrong. We have legendary digestive systems. We eat many, many things. On top of that, we can survive on a singular diet. A person could live on potatoes and little else. (They wouldn't be too happy though)

>Restrictive diets = fitness

No, it's arse. Adaptability is survival. We eat a larger variety of foods than anything else on the planet, buy a massive margin. We live anywhere and eat the local plants there. There is nothing we absolutely need, unlike say, the koala, which MUST eat eucalyptus leaves, or the Panda, which requires bamboo.

Ever wondered why people get nauseous on rollercoasters and aeroplanes?

Well, that's due to a certain mechanism in the brain. There are some optical illusions that occur in planes, that make it seem like things are moving in directions that they aren't, or vice versa.

Rollercoasters spin the fuck out of your inner ears, and often have little point of reference.

These combinations, when you can feel movement but can't see it, or you see movement but your inner ear tells you something different, didn't happen much in nature. When it did happen it was usually due to one thing:

Ingested toxins.

So that reaction evolved as a defense against toxins.

What's the first line of defense against eating something bad? Well, not allowing it to be digested. So the body forces it out, vomiting. This mechanism has served us extremely well; humans could try and test a far greater range of plants and other things, than any other animal. There is no one feed we absolutely need.

File: 1453436822875.jpg (174.43 KB, 1600x810, 160:81, whale back islands.jpg)

My little brother is DMing soon, and asked me to help him with something he's homebrewing for his game.

Basically, Magic in his game is fucking everywhere. Even common peasants have one spell slot, usually of 1st or 3rd level, depending on if they have a feat or not.

Magic users get an extra spell slot too.

So basically, you could roll a fighter and get one Fireball or a Lightning Bolt.

The other thing he's done, is that magic is unpredictable. He's going to roll a percentile dice whenever someone casts a spell, on a 1, 1% chance, he'll roll a d4. 1 or 2 will weaken the spell, 3 or 4 will strengthen it. A 2 will half the spells power, either by weakening the duration, damage, or lowering the save DC, a 1 will half it again for a 1/4 power of the original spell. 3 doubles it, 4 quadruples it. Thing is, a 4 is actually bad for some spells. Like fireball. Fireball could become a nuke of fiery doom on a 4, so magic is dangerous as fuck. He hasn't even told me exactly why magic is as strange as it is. I'm guessing someone ages ago fucked with a Wish spell or something and worded it wrong.

The entire setting is an ocean, with small islands all over the place, the islands move around too. So the first game will probably be our party trying to get a ship so we can adventure out on the open sea and figure out what's going on.

Oh and the islands are on the back of giant magic whales for some reason.

Firstly, greetings from the Russian-Speaking parts of the internet! Secondly, exactly what is says in the subject line. Beats FATAL. I shit you not.

A Russian guy has made a game which is worse than FATAL. He presented it in this year's Russian "RPGcon", It's called VTNL - Via The New Legacy. And I'm about to give you the full story as of why, by translating this review, made by a guy in a Russian RPG blog, Imaginarium.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Ixq8V1MpFRQWVjQmFEeEticnc/view

Let's start this journey into utter idiocy, which will continue in the following posts, by explaining this post's image.

It's VTNL's dice field. It's mandatory to use this block of birch in your games. MANDATORY! - this got the game attention in the first place, as the game has a whole, two pages long, subsection, explaining the rules for rolling dice. And the damn dice field is mentioned in the rulebook, if you can call it so, THREE times. In the mission statement, where VTNL's author sates what separates this game from others, he writes that: "This game follows very strict rules for rolling dice, and if they are not followed exactly, the roll doesn't count" The rules include the following:

>The game recommends the use of classical casino dice, with a 16mm side.

>Players must use their own dice, but all dice must be of equal size and form - the only allowed difference of the dice is the color.

>Sharing dice with other players is strictly forbidden.

>All rolls are to be made on the dicefield only, and they are to be rolled only in the direction from the open, longer side towards the opposite border. Rolling over the wooden borders is forbidden.

>You must make a roll by rolling all the dice together, rolling 2d6 or 3d6 (only multiple rolls in the book) cannot be made by rolling a single dice multiple times.

>After the roll, all the dice must remain on tPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

From the website:

VTNL is built entirely on its own mechanics. In some ways it is, of course, it is similar to a classic crpg. But the system of calculation of parameters and characteristics of the hero, the creatures and things are not borrowed from elsewhere. They are proprietary. I think the new system is always interesting to learn, or at least try.

Is there a bestiary?

Hey /tg/, how do you have fun with tabletop games again?

Everything has been really dull and lifeless lately. It seems like the GMs and players aren't really trying that much anymore. The systems and settings aren't that fun and exciting anymore.Everything just seems monotonous and slowly dying.

Every other hobby is either becoming overly simplified or dead or is just really costly to enjoy.

What does /tg/ do when they can't find enjoyment in things anymore?

So I made this dorf bust. I don't know if I should 3d print it or not. I'm OK with the outcome but not 100% happy.

Problems are: ears, need a rework, beard, not happy at all, and there is something wrong about nose and cheecks but I cannot put a finger on it.

It's my second work so I'm still learning. I will probably redo it, next I want to try a pirate.

Any suggestions appreciated, also advice me if you hypothetically would buy it is it was available.

I want to start making some miniatures (you probably saw around lots of my threads about rules for games and what not) and I want to understand of it's viable. I have fun when I do this things instead of my depressing job, so hope one day I can do it for a living.

We proceeded to murder them all in self defense, which was a bad move, because that was the last step to summoning their fucked up deity, who proceeded to tear a whole in the fabric of space and time and flood the city with all kinds of fucked up shit.

After witnessing world devastating events take place, our party decided to jump from the train. //we had failed to save the neighboring city from an Archconjurer, and the city of our current hideouts from a demonic cult working beneath it. We had lost so many limbs and party members there that we had had enough.

>three missions to the temple; first one leads to demonic parasitism and quick escape, second one leads to a burning magical library and witnessing all kinds of horrors; I manage to find a hidden path to a tomb and I'm the only one stealing a mighty crown. We leave. Third time and orc fumbles and hits our scholar to the head during a fight with some demonic beasts. He loses a leg and is bleeding - we have no healers so he is a goner. We do not kill him nor do we attempt to save him, instead we blame him for everything and leave him to die.

Simply leave down south - the jungle would protect us, and their cities. Now GM couldn't prevent that - and he didn't force us into the ongoing civil war. However, we received invitations for recruitment from both sides. The side we picked won, and now we were respected as not only warheroes, but as noblemen. Us who survived the suicide mission, that is.

However, the northern situation had escalated. Despite the Cthulhu conjurer and the demons fighting for turf, the tentacle invasion would march down south.

It seemed like a worse than death mission- and to some it was.

>(We had a laugh about it not only in meta level, but in-game as well; some nawb decided to run Khajit because of nightvision and got raped to death by tentacle monsters as we left him to die).

However, when we were asked assist by the greatest known pyromancer of the lands, we saw an opportunity to get richer and more powerful, so why not.

Sneaking up into monster horde territory isn't easy, and is less easy with a burning beacon, so we divided, he took his own retainers with him and we were to assassinate the boss iPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Did the party know anything about either side before hand? Or interact with them? Because I've found that invitations from groups the party has reason to believe are enemies really throw players for a loop. Wondering if it's a trap, or they just don't understand the situation and those guys aren't really enemies at all…

Once I got the players tricked by an invitation so hard they ended up personally arranging a mob hit on themselves. To the benefit of their new "allies," the mobsters.

I guess I have a soft spot for making them. Or at least attempting to.

Normally, I set the possible discoveries in layers:

Following the most basic of clues, the PCs will have the shallowest ending.

Digging a little deeper, they will find out more juicy plots.

Being real attentive and following even the most subtle clues, they will get the whole thing.

Nothing ever is done without at least a few clues alluding to it, but deeper info has more subtle leads, and getting the full scope of happenings recquires some really good and dedicated and thoughtful PCs. Hasn't happened yet - but then, I tried to running an investigative game on disinterested, unactive players way too used with railroading. Tragic mistake.

Maybe we'll all have more luck this next time. Me with my players, and my players with me.

Long and weird journey to a great door guarded by a dwarf. Beyond the door there is a dungeon that leads to a blinding light. Scene shifts. Players slowing realizing they are sharing the same body, in a psych ward. Their shared character has split personality. Dice rolls to determine which character controls the body. Then begins the real story, an occult mystery. This is the best plot in a tabletop i´ve played.

I've only talked to him once outside of class, to elaborate on something I said about his story, which had a ton of description in some parts that was too much, and I said "I know you probably do that cause of D&D though," We didn't talk after that though and I don't think he knows / cares that I play.

The dude seems wicked nice, I looked him up on Facebook because I'm a creep. For some reason I want to play RPGs with a dude in his 40s, my first ever experience with D&D was my dad DMing for me, and I play with my dad's friends who are a ton of grognards. The dude plays with his kids, according to FB, so he might not be desperate Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

Would you like a focused player who roleplays and has no red flags? I'm not offering I'm just asking because I am curious what kind of gamers are attractive to an older player / GM.

I want to run a sci-fi game. Something generic. What system is best?

Traveller or the System That Shall Not Be Named are my first suggestions.

If all else fails, use SilCore.

Gonna recommend BRP. It's good, simple, and generic.

Depends on what you want to do play wise more than setting.

Do you want a narrative game on exploring the unknown and need a system with harsh resource management?

Do you want a Flash Gordon esqe adventure serial IN SPACE?

Do you want a tactical game of humans removing aliens?

I knew this one was coming, and to be honest I advise not caring. Not caring is a win/win for us. The Tumblrettes don't really care for diversity they only care about our reaction to proposed diversity, by not caring, we rob them of it. Not caring also means that it wont hurt as bad when Geedub eventually shits all over 40K in terms of both setting and game like they did with AoS, and will drop their stockprice so low as to hand it over to a competant company to do something with. Again, a win. But then again maybe I'm out of touch for thinking the argument for bitchtits on Spacemarines is moot when you consider Blood Angel Nipple Armour.

>If your Blue deck steals an opponent’s creature with a non-Blue activated ability, you can use that ability if you can generate that color mana.

Wow, they didn't even try to hide how they want to abuse this fucktarded rule. I'm so happy though that they kept the flavor intact so that I couldn't use all of the colorless costs in ONE SET!

Out of pic related who would you run at the helm of an Orzhov colored deck? Ayli has got me to finally buy a shockland so my colors are set, but I'm conflicted. I want them all in the deck but I can't decide who would work best at the wheel.
