Alright anons, in order to make /vn/ feel more like home I have created this thread for everyone to discuss what they would like to see from /vn/.

I suggest we could start off by editing the files on the left so we'll have a more unique feel to the board.

"File Deleted" must be 140 x 50

"No File" must be 500 x 500

"Spoiler" must be 128 x 128

If any of you want have some good ideas for any board rules (to added or taken away) feel free to speak your mind and if the majority likes your idea I'll be sure to make the changes.

Also be sure to submit any banners you have designed. (Need to be 300 x 100)

Hey, boss. I'm glad to see you back.

I thought I would have a go at the spoiler image. Since almost all spoilers are H content, I went with "lewd." I could change it to "spoiler" instead if you would like that more, though.

About VNs/FAQ

>What is /vn/?

Above all it is a place for people who share a common interest to discuss visual novels and visual novel-related topics.

>What are Visual Novels?

Visual Novels (VNs) are a media type directly spawned from anime and manga. They are defined as a book in which sprites are used to show emotion with pictures in the background showing the setting. All VNs have music and effect sounds and most have voices. Text is generally given to the reader in small sections and require you to click choices to further the story. Some VNs have branching stories that can become extremely complex depending on the novel (A good example of a cluster-fuck story is Fate/Stay NightPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

13/11 Kimi no Nagori wa Shizuka ni Yurete [NSFW]

One year after the release of Flyable Heart, Unison Shift: Blossom released a spin-off starring the most popular heroine, Shirasagi Mayuri. Unlike it’s predecessor, Kiminago is more of a romantic drama, focusing on Mayuri’s relationship with Shou, and their struggle to have her family approve it, considering how their backgrounds are radically different. The story can be divided into two parts: the high-school daily life, and the mansion. Most of the game happens in the latter.

Similarly to its source material, Kiminago starts with Shou, a teenager with a huge appetite, being invited to a prestigious high school after saving her from an assault in the street. Atracted by the free meal plan that came with the invitation, he decides to go as soon as possible. And as he crosses a bridge, he comes across a beautiful girl staring at the horizon. Her mysterious gaze, and her intense beauty instantly captivates our protagonist. After a small conversation, she soon guides him throughout the school, and thus, the story begins.

Hell, if you can get your mom and dad to help you make VNs with pedobait lolis in them, you're obviously resourceful enough to MacGuyver your way through the whole development process.

Just write in your own culture. You take what aspects of JVNs you like and discard the rest. Your script doesn't have to come in the form of:

"Yaaa! Onii-chan, it hurts-desu!"

[My little sister's ass is quivering like a lilac in full bloom]

….

[10,000 words later]

….

[I snuggle with my imouto and bask in our afterglow.]

Good luck trying to bottle lightnings or catch unicorns.

Not VNs, but look at all the amateur indies releasing shit on Steam with crap graphics. Do you think someone besides a corrupt games journalist will find a needle in this haystack that's filled with horse poop and make it go viral?

 No.921

>>920

I disagree about Hanako's bad end being the one where she grows the most. I think that, while it is incredibly affecting, it's essentially Hanako doubling down on her isolation from other people, whereas her good end shows how she is able to reconcile her feelings of worthlessness with her and Hisao's desire for a relationship and accept it knowing that she can lean on Hisao when she needs it.

On the story thing I still disagree somewhat. You can create models for stories and map out beats and all that shit but it doesn't change the fact that stories can be hugely different from one another while still having similar structures. Shit look at Memento or My Dinner with Andre, they're hugely different from most stories despite still sharing the same basic structure. This is what I mean about the meat of the story being in the setting. The setting and characters are what gives meaning to the structure of the story and get us invested. The setting and characters are how you make an artistic statement.

>>921

I didn't mean it as a strict law, more like a rule of thumb. When you create a story you don't create something from scratch, you just fill the "universal" structure with your own invention. Much like everyone looks different in the outside but all have preety much the same skeleton, give or take.

I think Hanako does grow more in the bad end because it forces her to stand up for herself, something she hadn't been doing. In the good end she only gets dependant on Hisao, she doesn't get any stronger herself. Of course she's happier on the good end but for how long? say that they break up in a few years, afterwards she'd be in square one all over again

 No.923

>>922

I still disagree. While Hanako does break out of her shell a little it's for the purpose of maintaining the status quo, whereas in the good ending she does more or less the same (the sex/the talk afterwards) to connect better with Hisao, except they're on equal footing here. Now whether or not they stay together I think is irrelevant, she's made the first step towards being able to recover.

 No.925

>>913

Now that I can agree with. The structure of the story is the same.

And Shizune's route doesn't count, it was junk. Shizune was rad, but not her route.

That's pretty crazy. I've had Majikoi S described to me as "extended afterstory." Basically you do all the work in Majikoi, then reap the rewards at the end and during the whole of Majikoi S. I'm loving it so far.

 No.915

>>914

I still haven't finished it so I could be completely wrong about everything.

On the afterstory thing, I think that's my problem with it. I'm not a huge fan of afterstories in general because they seem like a tacked on "congratulations for getting the good end" when that sort of catharsis either is or should be part of the game proper. In the first one there was a lot of character development, ever with minor characters, that formed a sort of backbone between the routes, like the relationship between Touma and Hideo, which all came to a climax in the Agave route. Now this is still sort of happening in S but the weight of all the extra characters is dragging it down.

 No.916

>>914

>>915

Ok, so I just finished S and I take back most of it. Yuki's route is essentially the true route and it does a similar thing to Agave except on a larger scale, hence all of the extra characters introduced. They're mostly underdeveloped/generally boring but there were a few bits of good character development and the Majikoi brand shonen bullshit mostly makes up for it.

Also I just realised how good MinatoSoft are at pacing, especially considering the cast and amount of simultaneous plot threads.

 No.924

I just started playing this after seeing this thread.

It's surprisingly funny and well written.

Majikoi has my love now.

The best parts of the game are its sense of humor and characters. Especially cause they never sacrifice one for the other (Chris route notwithstanding)

Just finished Wanko to Kurasou.

It was goodish. I couldn't really accept how the MC was such a soulless bastard, his story is never really developed beyond I was young and shit sucked. The story also felt really samey, like the filler in between the main events was pretty much copy pasted.

But Mikan is the most adorable thing in existence and she was too fucking cute not to finish the game.

Kara no Shoujo's ok. The story's good and all but there are a bunch of shitty investigative minigame pixel hunt things that are really easy to fuck yourself on without knowing it because of the way they're set up.

But other than that I really liked it. It's just that the investigating can fuck up the rest of the game if you miss some evidence, which makes it hard to play without either save scumming or using a guide.

Do you guys like this VN? I swore while I was reading it that it was supposed to be a deconstruction of a VN, like it was trying to make a statement about how unhealthy a relationship like this would be. On the Aeka route the mc nearly throws his life away for this one seriously messed up girl that guilts him into dating her and they have a relationship almost entirely based on sex. And then that ending, jesus fucking christ. Granted I only did the one route but what do you guys think?

Really liked this VN, and it was one of my first as well. I never did big tits route, though. Aeka's route started uninteresting but the ending was damn good and satisfying. Catgirl was amusing and faptastic, and also ended on a great note.

I wish we had a fandisc or something with that bitch's route. What was her name again, Antoinette or something?

I know OP has probably gone by now, but I'm having pretty good progress with running VNs on gentoo with wine - if anything is picky, you can just use kvm for a quick xp set up to run it on anyway.
I'm actually in a similar position to OP too, I've a shitty laptop that benefits a fuck ton from an optimised os.
