So I know somebody who smokes (not friends but we talk occasionally) and I have never had to find someone to buy weed from since I've always gotten it from a friend who got busted. So how should I go about asking him if he could hook me up without coming across as weird or stupid?

Just ask him. I learned he smoked through an unintentional verbal cue, and once I got money and asked if he would either sell or buy extra and I'd compensate.
