Dead Connection was really fun at a local pizzeria. I remember receiving a talk for saying quotes like "IN HELL" and "CHRISTINE! CHRISTINE!".

Just played Knytt for the first time the other day and it was the msot enjoyable experience I've had in quite a while. Atmosphere was done good enough to let my mind get lost in the game, and the exploration was really amazing too. The fact that he put a guide light was great for the sake of having a general direction.
I plan on playing the others very soon.

In the mean time, does anyone have other games to suggest that have similar qualities? All games welcome, but I'm personally looking for exploration games, atmospheric games, or both.
Mention anything! Maybe someone else might look into a game you suggest.

Has /2dv/ heard of Underrail?

Imagine an oldschool turn-based isometric WRPG that is a mix of old Fallouts with some elements of System Shock 2, a dash of Deus Ex, original XCOM games and a setting superficially reminiscent of Metro 2033. That's pretty much Underrail. Gameplay/character system is fucking brilliant and difficulty is spot on - combat is really tactical and properly challenging, but fair. Beautiful and clean isometric 2D tilesets make exploring the game world just so damn awesome. It's like playing Fallout for the first time again...

It's currently in Steam early access, but it's like no one has even heard of it! Which is a damn shame because it's honestly the best WRPG I've played since Fallout 2. Why aren't there more games like this? ;_;

Yeah, I've heard of it. Found it in early 2013, saw the trailer and was immediately hooked. Played a couple of early alpha versions, and now I'm impatiently waiting for release.

Underrail will end the decline of RPGs.

I'm trying to remember an old PC game from my childhood. Unfortunately, I remember next to nothing about it.

It was a sidescroller. It was either set in medieval times or a fantasy world. I don't believe it was super popular, I got it from a bootleg game shop in a farmer's market.

I played it in the late 90s, but it could have been from the late 80's for all I know. The graphics weren't cartooney, it actually looked decent.

That's all I've got. If one of you can miraculously help me find this game, I'll suck your dick forever.

2.5D is a generally accepted term referring to 3d graphics in a 2d environment. Modern fighters are commonly described as 2.5D (and the term came about specifically to refer to the graphical shift in SF)

colloquially defined, not officially. People still argue about the name, but 3D in a 2D environment is generally the most accepted. As the wiki article states, the 'proper' definition would be as you said, 2D graphics appearing as 3D. Video games has its own particular interpretation of the word that wouldn't be applied to static pixel art.
Isometric is the term to describe sim city's graphics.

This board is more specifically for 2d games though, although I'm not gonna be trigger-happy, you can post anything you like if it's legal and conforms to global rules. The games don't have to be retro either, you can post flash or android games etc if you like.

Update: I've taken out the 'retro' bit from the title (although it's not showing up yet for me) so as to avoid confusion. In terms of 2d it's not a rule set in stone, you can talk about Street Fighter IV or MarioKart because they're part of the SF and Mario series. You can talk about Tom Raider if you like, I want this board to be chill, so just post whatever you want. Except Farmville.
