I'll give you a nice and short answer.

Yes.

Touhou makes me sad that my eyesight is awful, my reflexes are slow, and I'm bad at both shmups and fighters.

On some levels

Well I never cried if that's what you asking.

But some characters genuinely make me feel sad or solemn when I start thinking deeper about them, their possible future or their back story.

Mokou who cant move over Kaguya.

Parsee who I wish I could just give a hug.

The Tojiko that got screwed by Futo

Yuyuko arranges in general tend to make me sad.

Also I can't get over the fact that Yukari still hasn't responded to my numerous attempts at summoning her.

The fact that Gensokyo isn't real, sob sob

I think Layla Prismriver has a very sad backstory. Also I felt really bad about how Wriggle and Mystia were verbally abused in IN.

I've been known to cry over losing runs. I've also cried over putting extended periods of time into runs and getting nowhere. I cry nostalgically over all the memories I've had with Touhou over the years.

I'm a crybaby.

I don't think Touhou as a whole could ever make me sad.

Though Kogasa canonically always getting the short end of the stick upsets me a bit; but so does Cirno, they both just handle it differently.

>>36885

Reflexes can be worked on. And what do you mean by "bad eyesight"? Do you need glasses?

>>36894

No matter how the source material is to be interpreted, Yuyuko is in a far better place now than ever.

I've never heard of such a thing until now. Is it like eye floaters? Does it handicap you in your daily life?

http://eyeonvision.org/visual-snow.html

I have Mystic Eyes of Static Vision

Basically I see a constant static pretty much all the time, it is more obvious during the night or if I close my eyes though.

Until just 2-3 months ago I thought everyone's vision was like this so I never talked about it. But I accidentally talked with one of my friends and discovered that he also sees a constant moving static in his field of vision and he suspected that it was not something normal.

So I did some searching and discovered that I had an extremely rare visual sympthon that only 1% of the population has or so, the effects described matched my experiences perfectly.

>Is it like eye floaters?

I have eye floaters occasionally as well, but that is normal as you grew older or so I heard.

>Does it handicap you in your daily life?

No, since I was born with it, I was obviously always used to having it, it cannot really distract me, but sometimes I get conscious of it, especially nowadays that I realized that its not normal.

I actually have better vision than most people I know and I don't even need to wear glasses, so I can't really say that it handicaps me, but I thought it would be a nice excuse for why I fail at touhou games.

I spend all day staring at epileptic bullet patterns on a broken CRT in a poorly lit room. This can't be good for my eyes. However, I can't say I've experienced anything similar to what you have. Maybe if I crouch for a while and stand up quickly or apply pressure to my eyes, I can get something similar for a few seconds. Judging by that gif, it looks like it could drive someone nuts. I'm surprised that the brain is capable of producing such an effect. I would have thought that it was something that took technology to do.

>Judging by that gif, it looks like it could drive someone nuts.

Its not as horrible as that gif, well at least for me

And most awareness sites exaggerate the effects

The effects may vary in intensity depending on the person, so I don't know how bad it is for the others.

But if I personally had to describe mine.

Then during the day it would kinda be as if you approached a radiated area in STALKER game (See pic related, obviously mine is coloured though)

And during the night its as if the darkness is constantly moving.

With eyes closed its a constant firework show

>I'm surprised that the brain is capable of producing such an effect. I would have thought that it was something that took technology to do.

The brain is capable of producing MUCH stranger effects.

Visual problems aside, I had my fair share of hallucinations.

And I have read tons of crazy problems others have experienced, such as Alice in Wonderland syndrome

You should think of it as an extra challenge. Kind of like how people play without focused movement or bombing. It's all the more rewarding when you complete something with a handicap.

Good series. It knows to focus on specific characters, but also used its "OCs" to do character development that would not be allowed with any realHous. It makes me wish it was canon.

My only issue with most derived works is no one ever seems to name Yukari correctly. She also always seems to get her ass kicked and "suffers for her Gensokyo".

Out off all the works I've seen, it was able to have a "grand finally" type of ending without doing the "kill half of 2hus" that so many others ones do for some reason.

This song makes me sad, not just because it's melancholic, but it reminds me of the chain of strife happening in the latest game.

But 2hu games make me sad for reasons other than within the story. Call me autistic, but I like to believe ZUN has tapped into meme magic at a deeper level than most people know. As in, the goings-on in Gensokyo either predict or affect what's going on in the outside world. The events of DDC and LoLK take on heavier meanings when seen as reflections of the social justice wars and the influx of immigrants and their moon religion. And the barrier breaking in ULiL represents the magic of the world breaking out of its containment of disbelief.

Or I could just be linking whatever's in my head to give my life some sense of narrative. Oh well. Touhou still gets a tear or 2 from me sometimes.

I've put in thousands of hours into the Touhous. And when I'm not playing, I'm catching up on derivative works. During all that time, I've noticed some bizarre things about the series and come up with some deep things about it. I'm always associating things IRL to Touhou. And when I have a hard goal, I think of it in the context of getting a Touhou achievement. I feel like everything I do that's not Touhou is just a break from Touhou. My life revolves around it. I play Touhou all the time. I haven't gone for more than a day without playing for 5 years. Most of my programming projects relate to Touhou. It's inspired me to study Japanese and I've been doing that for 3 years. It's crazy just how obsessed I've become over this game and how much of my life it takes up. When I first discovered it, I felt like a fish that found water for the first time. And it hasn't abated. The thought of simply how much I love these games, especially my favorite one, puts a tear in my eye.

Too late.

Yeah just something about her character makes me sad. Sometimes I feel like my greatest anxiety is being wrong about things, and she's doomed to be wrong all the time.

Touhou briefly inspired my to try learning to play music, but shit events of 2014 (personal and GG) sapped my enthusiasm real quick.

Sometimes I feel like Gensokyo is real because the games specifically state that it's not. Is that weird?

Gensokyo becomes a shroedingers cat in that case. Gensokyo exists to house the forgotten. In a world where faith and fear causes supernatural beings to exist; Gensokyo seems to break that rule - with the exception of a few people who seem to know it exists. Not believing Gensokyo exists could essentially be the reason that Gensokyo exists - at the same time believing that it exists should make it exist. If you apply it to real life then this is the case. Saying Gensokyo doesn't exist could help Gensokyo exist.

It's probably weird but then again, shouldn't believing that a man that could turn water into wine existed at one point be weird?
