If I must use YouTube, I use youtube-dl through a proxy. Otherwise I block such websites at a router level.

It may not be YouTube but it's a site that forces the user to jump through a series a unnecessary hurdles just to commit the basic act of downloading a file. Sadly, these "cloud storage" and filesharing sites are just as bad as YouTube. A proper link points directly to the file and preferably has has a meaningful filename. It should be as easy as clicking on the link and having the browser immediately open the dialogue for downloading the file. But if it were that easy, it couldn't be exploited. It's all for the sake of spying, marketing, and advertising.
I'm probably coming off as mean, nagging, and condescending. But this isn't the intention. I'm just completely flustered over the bare act of sharing a file through the Internet being so difficult. It's like completely impossible to do anything without being spied on, having something attempted to be sold to you, or otherwise done in an insanely bloated and inefficient manner.
