 No.1970

Well that was a blast. I shot down all the Yellow scum and did the Death Star trench run like 4 times while meteorites fell.

Gonna go back and get S rank on that fucking blimp mission and do some trials tomorrow. It will probably be a while until I play 5 since there are some other games I really need to finish.

I was wondering how dynamic the ground battles are. Is it all scripted or do they AI and react to each other and the player?

 No.1982

>>1969

Only happens for final mission. There's always a hype as fuck final mission and unexpected things tend to happen during briefings/plane select.

>>1970

Not entirely sure about 4's ground AI but in 5 it's dynamic for sure. There's a mission where you fly support while ground units take over a fortress and the enemy saams and tanks will try to get into cover from you then come back out again just to wreck the ground troops while you turn around.

I wish you'd play 5 though, I consider it the superior game.

It definitely is, enemy AI is way better along with plane handling and physics. Games feel way more refined and less arcady than AC4 since most of the time you get actual objectives instead of having to shoot down enemies for a high score almost every time.

 No.2366

Those last three missions were extremely well put together. Seas of Chaos had a great mournful BGM that really helped you feel like shit shooting down all those former Osean allies. It made the start of Aces when all your friends show up that much more meaningful. They missed an opportunity by not having the AWACS be Thunderhead though. He could have been all tsundere for the Razgriz. Even though they used the same tunnel flying gimmick as they did 4 they managed to keep it interesting with more obstacles, the closing door and having enemies shoot at you. The Unsung War was a bit annoying because the first couple of times Snow and Grimm blew debris right into my face and I didn't even have enough time to shoot at it but other than that it was good.

I think the weakest point of the ending was making Hamilton the biggest named antagonist. We knew he was evil but without much warning he suddenly snaps and decides he's going to end the war his way. If they wanted to do that they should have developed him more in the cutscenes or in-mission dialogue.

Also I had never touched Arcade mode since I wanted to finish the campaign. It's a whole extra Mobius-1 themed game. Fucking sweet.

The final fight with Pixy was kind of disappointing. I was hoping it would be a no-gimmicks balls-to-the-ball dog fight. Instead they gave him the Arkbird's laser and the Scinfaxi's fuck you cloud missiles. And his version of the missiles were super annoying because even if you skirted around them and took no damage the particle effect would sometimes still fill your field of vision.

Zero easily had the best soundtrack of the three. Spanish guitars are never a wrong choice and it used them to great effect.

Using Arthurian legend as a motif was meh. It would have been more interesting if they expanded on the original Razgriz mythos introduced in 5.

Mechanically it was easily the best since it had 4's weapon selection and 5's squad command. The AI pilots also felt much smarter than the ones in 4 and 5.

I plan on eventually doing paragon and neutral playthroughs so I can get all the dead pilots trophies. For now though I'm in backlog clearing mode so I'll be moving on from Ace Combat for a bit.

Agreed but I still love jousting with enemy aces. Most of the Belkans will do the whole pixie-like jousting thing with you willingly. You can shoot down all of them like that pretty fast. As expected of Belka.
