This is a board dedicated to the discussion of anything related to 3D modeling suites (Blender, Maya, 3DS Max…) technical problems, progress with your current projects, anything of that sort. Spoiler anything NSFW, bitte. Also, rules. https://8ch.net/3dmodeling/rules.html

Ok, amatuer modeler here, I made a mesh for SL and I've textured it and everything, problem is I'm following a tutorial on how to apply the SL mesh to it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JHWDdrIeD0) and I've hit a problem. At 2:40 they say to select the mesh and the armature, and then press ctrl+p and choose armature>create from bone heat. I don't have this menu option. I've tried everything, and I just wanna get this fucking thing working, any help would be 10/10. Side note, I moved the default positions of the bones, is that fine?

Maybe it's because your Blender build is quite newer than what that guy's using in the video. It's been five years, try looking for other resources elsewhere, there must be something else.

What you want is automatic weights or empty groups, to set the bone weights which is how much of the actual model each bone influences and by what magnitude.

To do the weight painting yourself you select the model after parenting it with either option and select Object Mode > Weight Paint. The redder an area, the more influence the currently selected bone group has over that part of the model. To change the vertex group you're painting on, go to Object data and select a different vertex group.

Anyone got a good, easy to understand tutorial on how to do this shit?

What, the official documentation wasn't good enough? http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Textures/Mapping/UV/Unwrapping

Alright anons
So I'm fairly new to blender I know a few hot keys the basic works how to texture can anyone share their secrets on shading and modeling because so far my renders are absolute shit
Also physics help in blender game would be nice because. Their are no tutorials on that shit

Ah, we're just getting started on here, and so far we've got like 3 unique users. Alright, I know jack about game physics, but there are resources out there about materials and shaders. Modeling won't help you much when you're trying to get good renders; just try to not make streched polygons, try to keep smooth transitions between zones with high and low poly density, and on that side you'll pretty much be just fine. Keep an eye on your shaders and materials, though. This vid is pretty helpful. Skip the basics if you know them, and check this guy's other videos. They're pretty helpful.

Can this just be a dump of the best Blender tutorials?

I hate most tutorials. They tend to be extremely meandering and slow.

I really have no idea which ones aren't meandering. Tomorrow I'll try to get some good ones here.

Ayy, it's actually an introduction to the rest of the vids… whatever, go watch the rest.

Bit gay, but for the technical part, it ain't all that bad. Bump map is rather obviously tiled; less consistency would be appreciated.

I'm no professional modeller, mate. I'm a programmer/designer. This is just some basic practice. :P

I've made improvements btw, just never rendered it properly.
