I think what it is, is that when the board started there were a lot of people fresh from halfchan and they saw this as a board they might like for hentai, but then sorta dropped off. There were a lot of weeks early in the dump threads I was doing where they'd be like the only threads posted in that week. Porn boards are always slow so I'm not too too worried about this all. Best thing we can do as the people here is just keep posting and hoping that our ranking here: http://8ch.net/boards.html keeps on attracting more people over time when people look up hentai boards.
If you use the tag hentai in the search bar, we're at like 11 right now, that usually stays within 10-15 depending on the time of the week. Boards seem ranked by some weighting that takes into account active users by the strongest factor, followed by posts per hour and then total posts. One thing that might have hurt was was the shift from a single full page with all the boards that you could use ctrl+f to find all the tags to a page with only the top 50 loaded and that requires you to click a button to load more to ctrl+f and find boards with tags like "hentai".
You look at some other boards do and what they'll do is a bit scummy - post with different IP addresses in a slow dump over weeks to get their stats up that way. I didn't want to do that and I'm glad that I've met with moderate success. Instead, I do a weekly dump here on the weekends, and more people have been popping up lately which makes me happy.
Other than just posting, I'd agree with >>1748
in saying that the only things that shouldn't be allowed is that which people don't post. I wouldn't market as a /d/ board since there's already a more popular /d/ board ahead of us, and because I'd like to see a variety of hentai here rather than just attracting only /d/ stuff, but the point still remains I think that less rules = better - though that was our general rule before (at least for 2D).
