I remember when it was brought back. There were so many users literally saying, "lol, what is muted? What does it mean? What's a robot?" That's how new people were, and since they were brand new they had no idea that /r9k/ was very much a general board. (Moot wanted it to be a meme factory of course but that didn't work out. He seemed to get his wish later with /s4s/.) It's not like they had to constantly whine about being a pathetic pussy. Since there were so many newfriends that had no idea what the board was about, the "oldfags" there told them that it was a place to bitch about alphas, talk about being beta and constantly bitch and whine about what it means to be beta etc. Sure, old 4chan /r9k/ used to talk about beta vs alpha quite a bit, post shit about feels and what not, but we were very much able to make topics beyond that shit as well. We had plenty of other shit going on ans the board atmosphere was a lot friendlier than it is now. 2015 4chan /r9k/ seems to be some extreme mutant of what just one aspect of what the old board was. It's a fucking disgusting place.
