Also, the game for the 8chan slam is NBA2k14

We really need to get /tex/ into this. I just can't accept this as our first Slam without them being in there, as difficult as it would be for them to coordinate like that to begin with.

Make a sticky saying what 8chan Championship actually is, so when people find your board they can find out.

Just ended up here, literally no clue. It seems like you're planning to have some kind of inter-board vg contest? But people are posting teams made of fictional characters?

You may say I'm a newfag, but I'm not the only one.

No deadlines yet whatsoever, especially considering this board was started only about a week ago.

 No.1296

Where's the wiki at?

 No.1324

>>1229
The board was started a whole week ago, and there's still no informational sticky? Come on, guys. If people get linked here and can't find information, they're more likely to assume that this is all just an ill-conceived, poorly-led mess, and leave.

I get that it's basically a basketball version of the 4chan Cup, but it would be a lot easier to plan if we all knew exactly what has to be done before entering.

 No.1411

I just fully realized this. With the 225-thread-per-catalog limit this site seems to have, we could literally have 100 teams.

 No.1485

>>1411
We'll need some tier of qualifiers like the one FA Cup uses.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011%E2%80%9312_FA_Cup_qualifying_rounds

However, the format will be dependent on how many teams actually register.

I can come up with a suitable system for that, but first we'll have to agree on how many teams should be in the tournament proper. 16? 24? 32?

 No.1489

>>1485
100.

 No.1491

Seeing that this will be the inaugural 8CC, we'll probably have to set different rules depending on how many teams register. If too few teams register there won't be any qualifiers; if too many teams register all will have to go through qualifiers.

I'm not sure having 100 teams in the tournament proper is a good idea. Besides, with the archives we can have more teams than can fit in the catalog. Having the other boards allow one sticky thread for 8CC per board might work too.

But, well:
Round 1 (100 teams): 20 groups of 5; top 2 advance
Round 2 (40 teams): 1 knockout round
Round 3 (20 teams): 4 groups of 5; top 2 advance
Round 4+ (8 teams): Knockout stages all the way

If things go well enough, we might even be able to expand this beyond 8CC. I'm thinking of having an interchan competition some time in the future.

Finally, double elimination a shit.

I've added some suggestions for seeding as well. A host not being among the top seeds is just plain silly.

1. The defending champion and host will be the top 2 seeds, where possible, with the defending champion being of a higher seed than the host. If there is only one team (eg. the defending champion is also the host), only the first seed will be set. If neither is participating, there will be no changes made to the seeding.

2. The first seed is to be drawn into the first group.

3. Seeding is not recommended to be implemented for an inaugural tournament. It is highly recommended for the tournament to be set up such that all teams involved will have a fair chance. Nevertheless, it is recommended for the host to be in the first group playing the opening match, where possible.

 No.1775

OP pic is just a single pic. It's just a poster or whatever of the character Ranma Soatome, from the Ranma 1/2 series. The artwork in the poser actually looks different from the artwork in the series.

Anyway, Ranma Soatome is basically a magic tranny. He's naturally a man, but he has the power to turn into a woman. Obviously, the depiction in the OP is Ranma's female form. In the series, his female form is considered better looking than other natural women. There's at least one female character in the series that is extremely jealous of Ranma's looks when he is female.

Can I have an official notice from a volunteer or board owner that the project is not kill and that we have people working on modding NBA2k14?

A simple example game between two boards to test the system would be enough to get this working and to start testing rules and limits. As well as a way for the general faggots to start helping out with individual team rosters.

This. How will teams be chosen and regulated? You can't have 200 teams.

How will the game be modded? Do we have a wiki or website to keep things neat and tidy and presentable? (Here doesn't count.)

My recommendation would be to have each team made by individual modders and have a "applications" for "licences". Physically make the team with kit and player levels and submit it by the end of December or something. Any team not submitted by that time will have to wait until the season's end in three months to reapply for a "licence".

 No.2473

>>1963
We can if we have more commissioners, actually.

 No.2474

Hm… Well, I figure we should be able to figure out something with the numbers either way. But I think each team should get a game on their stadium at least once.

Groups of 3 is the fastest way. Group winners advance.

I can easily handle the tournament format once we get the number of teams participating.

Who says we can only have one host?

NBA 2k14 is a lightweight game, it's perfectly possible to have several hosts and simultaneous games

 No.2487

>>2486
I only said it's the fastest way, not the only way.

Still, do we have multiple people willing to host?

 No.2491

>>2487

I won't mind, and I'm pretty sure many won't.

The only problem I can think of is that some host might cheat, but that's unlikely.

The problem with many boards though is that it's possible that only small boards will get to the top and most will lose interest.

How does it work in IRL basketball?

4 groups of 6 each, but if we have too many teams we ought to go FA Cup's way instead unless we have enough commentators. Then again, we don't even know how many teams will be participating.

Oh wait, you were talking about hosts not being in short supply. Disregard everything after the first comma in the second line.

 No.2507

Not only hosts, commentators are also a problem.

Not to mention the modding

 No.2515

>>2507
We probably only need one commentator for each host.

Modding will be a bigger problem because we might need one for each team.

 No.2516

>>2515

I don't think modding will be a problem.

Very few players need anything extraordinary.

Most teams can rely completely on the default player maker.

All we really need are good tutorials on importing custom logos and exporting/importing teams. Those are the only things I found unintuitive and didn't manage to figure out on my own.

 No.2518

>>2516
You can't export/import teams without a russian scam app right now I believe.

As for team logos, you pretty much are required to use the NBA teams themselves, which is a limiting factor for teams, capping us at the max NBA teams: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qEbF028wFA
