57efdb No.80

Let's have this thread for DiGRA/SRI related digs. For those who aren't familiar with DiGRA

>Founded in 2003, DiGRA is the premiere international association for academics and professionals who research digital games and associated phenomena. It encourages high-quality research on games, and promotes collaboration and dissemination of work by its members. It’s Executive Board is made up of a variety of international scholars.

Translation: We're dedicated to co-opting video games with pseudo-academics, pointless and divisive politicization, and manipulation of the masses.

"Last week MIT announced a new videogame to teach students empathy http://blogs.kqed.org/mindshift/2013/11/teaching-empathy-through-digital-game-play/ called Quandary. Players 'win the most points by accurately predicting each character’s reaction.' …

"Now since the characters are not real people, the game is also a highly useful technique for fostering false beliefs about people and their values and what drives them. Unlike the real world or even an accurate history textbook, the Quandary characters will be driven by what the game designers want students to believe about the world. Those desires become the guiding images for students during their most pliable, personality formation, years. And in that post I linked above, game designer Jane McGonnigle was quite forthright in the intentions to use games to create images of a desired future and the need for change.

"Both Jane’s boss, Marina Gorbis (see tag for her) and Willis Harman (discussed in linked post) worked during the 80s at SRI. Now I first became familiar with what used to be known as the Stanford Research Institute when SRI kept coming up as the grant evaluator for university partnerships aggressively pushing constructivist math and science on K-12 in return for multimilliondollar grants from the National Science Foundation. Just imagine how much better I would have understood the dynamic of why aggressive implementation (whatever the outcry or results) brought renewals for a new term if I had better understood SRI as a hive of Humanist Psychology."

How big was the push for gamification thus year? Got any resources you can dump like papers etc? Pdfs can be uploaded on this board.

d05ce3 No.181

>>179

Gamification seems like a trend for them. The trend is going that far that pannelists where mocking the term "gamification" during their speeces, since "everybody" wants to have some gamification. I got the feeling they are just using the termn often since it looks like you are more serious when using that term, but despite that they don't push much for gamification. More words then actions.

There was an influx due to gamergate on gender/feminist issues, but their research was reading 5-10 news articles and not even knowing who brienna wu is.

I can upload some files (+200) but I need to look first thorugh them, I am afraid to be tracked down. I am going to the next year conference as well.

In general it apears that the authoriterian leftist are colonizing DiGRA and not all of their members are happy with that. Many of them don't like what they are doing. In fact there where alot of speeces subtle attacking the offical gamergate narrative, trolling with headlines the agenda driven speeches etc. Alot of people there just don't want to be bothered with booting the cultural marxist out. They fear not to get funding over disagreements and let them just do their thing.

One of the Gamers are Dead article wirters was also there.

Please do upload those files at your discretion, I would hate for you to be found out.

Its interesting that you say even digra is fed up with the authoritarian left that pushed its way in. I would be interested in seeing the think tank itself push them back out even harder.

Which one?

digra is not a think tank.

Jesus most of those people are cancerous. The only slightly cool one is the lady who wants to make games for orangutans.

That's my worry, those papers are "pre"-papers which are not published yet and I need to have a look at them. I don't want to be in spotlight.

I got the feeling he was for narrative pushing there. They also want to develop a more political correct version of "Cards against Humanity". Which make the allegation against one of the creators more intresting. I am not sure if he is in the developement involved but the "other" version got heavly mentioned.

____

And yes, there is quite a strong push back. Not only on small-talking ocassions also one stage and in debate of the panels. I bet you 200 Dollars there are proGGers just beeing afraid of their carrier! Pick related. One speec was named the players gaze on videogames, got mashed up with Queer Theory in Gaming but the gaze-pannel was about a camera replacing the mous by monitoring your eye motion.

Also alot of their papers and talks having zero impact on the real world. I mean by that, that you just can't imagine how that work can benefit anyone. It feels like a cheaper way to earn a degree and then hide where and how you got it, when aplying for another job. Some of their works are quite cool, but the usual suspects of cultural marxist are not doing the useful ones.

Very interesting. Please do get back to us on that, I would love to take a gander. Maybe get some black marker lines going to censor important names and junk.

>Pc Cards Against Humanity

Jesus. These people can't be happy with something, they have to throw a tantrum, tear it down, and try to make their own but without the blackjack and hookers.

So, without giving too much away, what's your role in Digra? Are you a long time member?

The phrase you are looking for is an organization that has a conference once a year.

okay, THAT is interesting. Whose funding are they afraid of losing?

Hey OP, good thread. You will learn a lot from digging into SRI. Willis Harman was instrumental in writing this work for the US Department of Education in the 1970s (?).

http://www.brainsturbator.com/posts/170/changing-images-of-man-in-pdf-format

There's writing in that book about using psychotechnologies and technology in education to control people's ideas. Just wild stuff.
