what are the Lounger's thoughts on Card Games? there are the obvious ones like Blackjack and Poker but what do you think of card games like YuGiOh or Magic: The Gathering? of course I think they're both pretty gr8 but the YGO community is getting worse than League of Legends at this point, not saying that League is bad, then again i'm not saying it's good either so yeah.

I play tramp with friends sometimes, but never seriously. Cards are something you do when you hang out.

>CGG

i am not a rich man. too expensive, if you buy the "wrong" cards when everyone in your peer group is playing a different game already, you're fucked.

There's another thread about card games going on here. A couple people had pretty interesting ideas.

Nice dubs, Mr(s). Anon. I edited your post to fix what the word filter did to League of Legends.

I was always a huge fan of the warlords card game, but i'm not sure if they ever finished getting a community together

as for YGO i haven't played it in years other than an older game i found for PC so i can't speak on the matter

As someone who's played Magic for several years, I'll tell you that it only has to be as expensive as your group of friends wants to make it. All of the out-of-the-box starter decks are balanced enough with each other that you and your friends can have some pretty good games for a down payment of $15. Then if you want to upgrade your deck later, you can.

I mostly play the Pokemon card game a lot and I used to play the MLP cgg because it was fun before the guys who made it did not release a set for NINE months. At the store I play at YGO is right after Pokemon and man they are very "weeaboo" too be nice about it. Granted I am playing at a Pokemon group the about 35%-45% of the players are younger but I digress.

Now if you wanted to get into a competitive card game I would suggest Pokemon just due on the fact that many of the decks stay in power for good amounts of time with out needing too many high price upgrades (Unless you want your deck to be super shiny.) barring some of the more niche decks. Also the cards are cheaper compared to games like YGO or magic and cards rarely get banned (last ban was like 12 years ago.)

Don't invest in buying MTG for now, it's too early for first time playing. Right now the standard format is dominated by high tier decks abzan, jeskai, or mardu. Costs around $500-990 bucks. Card conditions and foil affects prices. It would take a few more months for those OP cards/decks to rotate out. Even if you play modern: delver, burn, or artifact decks are just gonna kick your ass over and over. Vintage and legacy, I'll doubt you'll like the format. One card costs about $65 minimum for a heavily played card. Its only good to play MTG if you have friends you can play low-tier decks with. On the league matter; that fucking game is a wasteman's dream. Already sold my 30 account for $70.00.

I was really into YGO as a kid right when it came out, but I quit following it right around when the Egyptian God Cards came around. A few years ago, a friend and I played with a few of his spare decks (he continued playing off and on after I quit) and I couldn't really get into it again.

Some other friends taught me how to play Magic last year and I love it, but I'm sticking to the Duels of the Planeswalkers games. I'm too cheap to buy real cards, there's not much of a scene in my area anymore, and I'm pretty poppycock when it comes to large-scale deck building and strategizing. I don't care enough to learn about 20+ years' worth of metagame. Just give me enough cards to be able to mix and match my deck and try out new tactics and I'm happy.

About the card games - I play more traditional games like poker and poppycockhead occassionally. Recently two of my friends started playing Magic again after a few years break, same goes for my brother. I have to admit, I don't understand poppycock, but it seems interesting. I guess I'm going to give it a shot.

I play magic all the time. Standard is fucking expensive to get in and just to stay in, I pretty much only play drafts. If anyone likes magic, but hates the cost, look into getting a cube, or a pauper cube. Pretty much like a draft, but one guy comes and leaves with all the cards.

Also, Dominion and Ascension is pretty cool.

I played Yugioh for 17 years, starting when it first hit the states. That game was my passion, but between the banlist nonsense, the OCG/TCG rulings nightmare, the autistic focus on archetypes, and the nightmarish fanbase, I finally just sold all of my cards in disgust.

I've played Magic for about 9 years, and I still enjoy it thoroughly. If getting into it is a monetary problem, there's a fun new format that's shaping up called Mini Commanders.

The premise is that you take a legendary creature (your "General" or "Commander") and build a deck around them.
>The deck must be exactly 49 cards +your general for a total of 50
>Your deck may have only 1 copy of each card, excluding basic lands
>No card may have a color that is not within your General's color identity (For example: A Blue/Green general requires you to only have blue, green, blue/green, or colorless cards)
>Each card, including your general, may only have a converted mana cost of 3 or less.
>Start with 25 life
>Normal win conditions (No " General Damage")
>Normal mulligan rules, except that your first mulligan is free
>You may have a 10 card sideboard

The format CAN be expensive, but it's a much more relaxed format than standard, and you can use any card that is not on their ban list.
