chortle this came in from my country. A combination of anti-police brutality mentality and social justice (i.e. equalization of women in the police force) pretty much led to this.

So I'm curious, what does /8lounge/ think about policing? If you had your own police force, how would you run it?

> people can no longer just read the laws and then enforce said laws without being retarded

My grandfather was a cop and a damn good one too, why can't we have a reasonable world?

The article insinuated that she was armed ONLY with mace and nothing else.

It also did NOT look like she had that under control. If one or more of her assailants had been physically imposing, or used a weapon, or known how to fight, then it would have ended very poorly for her.

I know that feel Mr(s). Anon. If you're ever in Ontario, don't be in Ontario. The police here aren't only incompetent - they're corrupt.

If I had my own police force, I'd probably make sure they had proper weapons training and consisted of a physically-fit group of individuals. I also feel like women, even the fit ones, are generally laughed at as officers - especially when unequipped. I'm unconvinced of their ability to uphold the law.

Welcome to Canada.

I have a few police officers in my family as well. They're good people, but they admit both criminals and officers do stupid things - on the officer's side, it's often the result of hotheads or the regulations imposed on them by the government. On the criminal side, it's usually meth.

This seems absurd, though. Police (especially beat cops) can't do their job properly if they are not a legitimate threat to those that break the law.

I realize that my experiences are colored by living in America, but I have a difficult time believing that a legitimate law keeping institution has such poorly armed officers. Even probation officers that visit "Gun Free Zone" schools in nice neighborhoods replace their gun with a tazer and still carry a mace and a baton because they may get called upon to uphold the law at a moments notice, and having these tools might mean the difference between a civilian living or dying.

Most police officers who are on call will have firearms.

I remember a time in the 6th grade in Northern Ontario where I spoke to an officer on duty about a seminar against drugs, and he was armed.

He was quite friendly, too.

That aside, however; Canada be dashed in its ever increasing ineptitude at doing anything productively, recently.

Maybe when the Liberals inevitably win this year's redundant election, they'll do something useful. Most likely not.

Have yourself a fine evening.

Seemingly ever omnipresent Boardmin, do you have the mind or inclination to suggest another province aside from Ontario? I was considering BC, as a byproduct of the increasing controversy welling up within the provincial borders of Ontario.

I'm curious as to what your opinion may be.

I'm more a butler than an omnipresent Boardmin - here to serve!

That said, I'm short on ideas. Originally, Alberta was the place to be, but considering the drop in oil prices, the market isn't in the best shape to accept newcomers. I'll be moving out in a couple of years (done with our Quebec-tier government) and I was looking into more rural provinces such as Saskatchewan or P.E.I. Manitoba is apparently full of aboriginals who loot and kill people, so I'd suggest avoiding that.

On the whole, however, I can't say I'm well-versed enough to give you an accurate or even decent answer. BC is usually a good shot, but housing costs are fairly high and if you don't like liberal governments, you won't be very happy there. If you ask me again in a year or so, I think I'll have a better idea.

Hmm. Thank you for your input. I've had similar ideas, save for the knowledge of Alberta. Thank you for this insight.

And I will probably plan out a migratory scavenger hunt, if you will, to BC. I do not mind liberal governments, and I believe a good portion of their sentiments to be in good spirit, much to the, er, *cough* chagrin of a vast majority of dwellers in our home of 8chan.

This much stated; thank you for your insight, I now have an ever slightly more educated view of my situation, and that's all I can really ask for at the end of the day, isn't it?

I wish you the best, and have yourself a pleasant night.

Canada is a big place.

In Vancouver a couple people have been shot for threatening police with weapons in the past few months.
