 No.2694

For the sake of discussion, what are the differences between being a brokefag and being a poorfag? Do you consider the former a short term state while the latter is more of a mindset? What are the defining characteristics of each in two otherwise similar individuals?

 No.2695

'b'Brokefag:'b' One who has spending exceeds his monetary intake.

'b'Poorfag:'b' One who has little to no monetary intake.

They are not mutually exclusive. A poorfag is often a brokefag due to the low threshold that they have for becoming such. It is still possible for a richfag to be a brokefag, since being such is contingent on spending, rather than intake.

I'd say one is in a position to make money in the immediate future (which would fix his or her being broke) and the other doesn't have a way to fix his or her position (i.e. being poor).

I've always treated poorfag as a mindset. Just as I know many brokefags who aren't actually broke and instead very strategic with their spending and saving, I also know poorfags who have reasonable disposable income but nothing to show for it. I mean it in the sense that it's not being saved or invested, but also doesn't materialize into into dinner, trips, guns or guitars. They have nothing of value and no fun, yet don't have the dosh that goes with it.

Sometimes I want to do some forensic accounting and see where it goes, if it turns into heat and light or just disappears.

I've always considered it as such:

broke: A state of having little or no money. "Living paycheck-to-paycheck." "Having more month at the end of your money."
A purely material state of being wherein one simply does not possess adequate income.

poor: A state of mind wherein one will not have adequate income for desired goals. Being mindset rather than a tangible quotient, it's more difficult to describe, but where a broke person might complain about an empty savings account, and a thin wallet, a poor person will complain about those things immediately after buying a new guitar or whatever they didn't need because they had the money at the time.

A broke person won't always be broke, because money will come. But a poor person will generally always be poor because they'll have no budget, forethought, or financial self-control.

I've known people who made 6 digits, who always found a way to be further into debt every month rather than paying it off.
