And here's my own story.

>be me
>8 years old
>night time where I am, about 8 or so but pitch black
>power outage occurs because of a huge electrical storm that's been going on all day
>before this happens, I'm in the basement feeding my pet fish
>power goes out all of a sudden and I'm stumbling around
At this point, I remember calling out for my brother, but instead I heard this sound like something in between a hiccup and gagging.
>freeze up
>I back up towards what I think are the stairs because everything's still dark and accidentally step on something
>it feels like an arm and as soon as my foot goes down on it, it twists away
>fall back and hit my spine against the stairs but I don't care about the pain
>too terrified of whatever the hell I just stepped on
As I'm climbing to my feet, a lightning flash goes off from outside and I see something on the floor staring up at me.

>run upstairs

Later when the power went back on, I went back down (when my brother was down there, because I wouldn't go down alone). Apparently, I had stepped on a rolled up rug, but I never understood how I felt it twist away. I remember waking up from a couple nightmares after that and thinking something was in my room watching me, but aside from that, I haven't seen anything since.
