I figure some people might be interested in this here. I've been searching google for beer without hops for about an hour and the only two things I come up with are reccomendations for gruit, and the bruce williams beer. I can't find any gruit, and bruce williams lists hops as an ingredient in all its beers.

The reason I'm looking for hopless beers is because hops has more estrogen than soy, and it makes you sleepy.
Beet apparently didn't solely utilize hops up until recent centuries, and that was only because of laws passed by protestants who knew hops were bad for sex drive.

Any reccomendations?

I'm no expert on booze, but I know there are severalMr(s). Anons in the lounge who are, so I'll give this thread a bump.

How about malt liquor as an alternative to beer with hops in it? The ingredients it uses are different and it has a higher alcohol content.

I'd also suggest taking a look at >>>/hooch/ for more experts on the subject.

Can I ask why it has to be beer? If you're looking for an alcoholic beverage made without hops, then that opens the doors to literally anything but beer.

Beer without hops isn't going to taste like beer, if the the flavor is what you're looking for.

Hops adds qualities that can be obtained from a variety of other herbs, and according to some of the recipes I've been reading it can end up better. And apparently hops weren't even considered desireable but were enforced by law by religioua fanatics trying to curb sex drive.

I think I might just try brewing my own.

Gotta love Black Dynamite.

On a related note, I could sure go for some good-ass waffles, not to be confused with good ass waffles.

The Protestants deserve more credit than most people give them. On top of good taste in alcohol, they also had an excellent work-ethic. Max Weber, a German social scientist and political economist wrote on what he called "The Protestant Ethic" and how it could be applied in modern societies.

The protestants valued delayed gratification, a very admirable quality, and that's why they desired hops to be implemented in beer in order to reduce sex drive.

However they did not possess knowledge of the science at that time period, because if they did they'd realize that giving men estrogen does not allow them to delay gratification easier, it simply eliminates some of their desire for gratification in a health endangering way.

I think Christianity as whole is based as fuck, sure there's been issues throughout history, but it brought Europe together and the culture and ethic it created in the West is unmatched.

Malt liquor is a poor decision. Malt liquor is very crude, tastes only slightly better than motot oil, and still usually has a lower ABV than many good craft beers.

I drink several beers nearly every night, and neither my girlfriend nor I have noticed any impact on my sex drive. While this subjective evidence of my own certainly can't substantiate the claim alone, I've never seen research studies (verified by separate independent teams) indicating any relationship between ingesting a substance containing estrogen and decreased sex drive.

If you're really concerned about hops, drink wine or mead.

You should try making some yourself and see if the process is worth it. You can also tailor it to your tastes to the best of your ability that way.

Pick one.

Also, as far as I know the german purity law is older than protestantism.

Barely wine maybe. Sake is basically beer made out of rice.

Cider, too. Since it's basically just alcoholic fruit juice. It tends to average out at 5-6% ABV. I'd personally recommend Smith and Forge.

if you are looking for beers without the hoppy TASTE, go for belgian style dubbels, trippels, or the sweeter porters.

Fruit beers with minimal hops imo dont taste nearly as good, more like fermented artificial candy flavor.

If you are allergic to hops or dislike them for ideological reasons, you might be hosed.
