How does one create original content in 2015? I grew up on 4chan. I discovered it when I was 11, and I'm 19 now, so I've spent almost half of my life as an imageboard denizen, and the culture seems to have changed since I was a kid. I probably just sound like a bitter oldfag, but it seems that OC has become stagnant. poppycockty photoshops used to be the essence of /b/, but what do people photoshop? Where is the source content found?

Like many others, I wish to give back to the community in the form of original content without forcing it, but it seems difficult.

Original content is anything that you post that has never been posted before. The best way to do this is to imagine something novel and render it into a post able form. The easiest way to create original content is to repurpose someone else's work. By cropping an image or adding text or by juxtaposing two images, you change their context dramaticly and generate something new.

Take these images, for example. The first is truly original, as it was drawn by an artist and he bore all of the work for it. The second is recontextualized by cropping, and it is now something completely different. A reaction image.

The merits of both can be debated, but they are both OC because they have never existed before the moment they were posted.

In a sense, no original content generated by the chans is original. All original content draws on pre-existing images, combining them in a humourous way.

Unless you draw the comic / figure yourself without any other non-abstract image in mind, it can't be original, and if that's the case, then even the things we draw that are somewhat grounded in reality are not original.

To find the Origin of Content, you would have to go back to the very first, original thought.

Why does everyone have such a hard-on for original content lately?

If you want 'original content' so badly, then why don't you just illegally download Photoshop and alter some images in a funny fashion yourself?

You take but you don't give.

OC is what holds a chan alive. Also, did you actually read OPs post? The whole point about the thread is him wanting to make OC.

The same way it's always been done, I imagine. Just because the culture's changed doesn't mean you can't create stuff.

Remix culture, in otherwords.

I've made plenty of OC over the years, but I always need something to get me started. Some idea, some assignment or something.

Some people have a gift for thinking of completely new ideas out of the blue. It blows my mind how some cartoonists can make a new cartoon every day f.e.

Same here. Sometimes, inspiration just strikes, but it's usually just based off of something else.
