How does /8lounge/ acquire its information?

I have an essay due in a couple of weeks and I've decided to write on the topic of torture - mainly the most successful types of it. Just for kicks, what sort of torture would /8lounge/ use to get information out of unsuspecting enemies, be they terrorists or captured spies?
>pic related, it's bamboo torture from Myth Busters, where sharp bamboo slowly grows through the person's body.

I am the source of my information. I acquire it by observing.

Torture isn't very effective because people under torture will say anything you want to hear.

As for interrogation tactics, a common but effective one is the "good cop, bad cop" routine. Works great with parenting too.

The "Bad Cop" is the one that puts the pressure on the suspect, while the "Good Cop" protects the suspect from the bad cop, earning the trust of the suspect.

Personally I've been both a good cop and a bad cop at some point in my life.

Light deprivation would probably be one of the top ones. >>352 is correct in that information acquired under duress isn't always reliable, but if we were just coming up with tortures for the sake of torturing a person, I'd be interested to try this one, just for the heck of thinking outside the box:

Put the person in a room where he or she is stripped naked and watched by an audience constantly. Every now and then, have some of the audience members whisper things to each other, as if the remarks are about the torture victim. Continue this for a long period of time. I'd be interested to see the effects this would have on a person, especially in today's society where eye-contact isn't frequent and people function more in the private space rather than in the public.

Haven't we all?

Interesting, but honestly (and I can speak only for myself), I could care less if I was stripped naked and people were looking and whispering. Not everyone is insecure enough for this to work effectively.

I would not use torture as a primary means of information gathering, for the reasons aforementioned in this thread.

Much better to intercept information, or have someone or something on the inside.
