 No.4063

Thinking of dropping out of my pointless post secondary education and picking up a trade. Wondering if anyone has any tips on the pro and cons of specific trades

Already eliminated welding and plumbing. Thinking electrician or carpentry looks pretty attractive

It depends on where you live. Where I am, trades require a lot of certification, and most of it needs to be time spent with an apprentice, meaning you have to find someone willing to take you on. Apprentices often work for minimum wage or for free, but the good thing is once over, you're probably guaranteed a job.

Upside: Job + cash
Downside: No guarantee you'll find an apprenticeship

Follow-up: I say finish post-secondary because then you'll at least have a degree to fall back on if you decide trades aren't for you.
