Hello Mr(s). Mr(s). Anons.

Over the past few years I've slowly been attempting to improve myself, but soohoy in the sense of academics. To give some backround, in elementary I was considered the top of my class and destined for a ivy, first year of middle schools straight 70's and some 60's, never failed a class though (I theorize I did it subconsciously because a lot was expected of me, but that's a whole other topic) I have slowly tried to break down the barriers that were holding me back, and now I'm currently a junior in HS and I'm in 3 AP level classes, but of course my GPA is garbage so no shot at an ivy. It's not like I'm going to a community, but I'm dissapointed in myself for not at least being close to ivy standards. Anyway, I feel as if my Academics are where I want them, so I want to improve myself in other areas, for example my diet. 2 liters of coke a day has no doubt done a number on me (even though I only weigh 115lbs at 5'6-5'7 ish) and I've been looking into Tea's for replacing my bad habit (and maybe some coffees in the morning) like pic related. My fitness is also an area of concern, I look like a Holmodor victim even though I eat a ton of food (steaks are the best thing since sliced bread). I would like this thread to become a place where Mr(s). Mr(s). Anons can recommend courses of action for others to improve each other, a general think tank if you will. If any of you have suggestions for me, in the areas of where I can find teas and fitness plans that would be great. I hope all of you find help in the areas you wish to thrive.

>physical

Work a hard labor job and get buff without having to work up the will power to go to the gym every day

>mental

Focus on the sciences, but temper it with liberal arts studies - particularly literature and art.

The aim is always to become the Renaissance man (polymath).

I should also add that it's tough work at the start, but once you get into things, you begin to enjoy it more than anything else in the world. You'll like testing yourself by constantly trying new things.

I currently read a ton of history stuff, and I work as a receiving guy in a retail chain store. I do a lot of heavy lifting but I don't seem to build any muscle while doing it, I feel like I'm almost there mentally, but physically it just feels like it's not ever going to happen

There is creatine and such where I work, but I don't know if any of it works. I will try it soon though

You probably won't get much better guides for physical fitness than /fit/, friend.

As much as they preach their homo-erotic ways in their community, they're all pretty swell, and if you have a question pertaining to a topic of fitness not already covered by the stickies, you'll definitely get a response.

In the way of "mental" improvement, the classical arts are practiced today for a very good reason. Get into orchestras, poetry, great works of art, or study old philosophy.

You'll be surprised about how much perspective you'll gain with just reading about dead people.

Best of luck,

A Complete Stranger

all of these responses will genuinely help you become a better person. My only contributions would be 1) take up an instrument, even if you don't devote yourself to it you'll at least have a past time that can always be improved and provides you time to think.

And 2) the more pretentious contribution, as an ongoing thought experiment ask yourself why the Tibetan monks secluded themselves from the world. There are several layers of "right" and "wrong" answers

Tea isn't a bad idea at all. My gf is an absolute tea nut - start by trying some of the Twinnings and Celestial flavors, possibly branching out to Tazo if you're seeking more flavor.
