These days Ubuntu isn't including "source" repos by default, so first you have to figure out the links for them, and your codename (raping rabbit, suicidal scorpion, faggy fox, w/e), and then hope all the build dependencies are actually listed. They usually aren't, have fun with that...or they're being installed in nonstandard prefixes...

Then, so that it apt knows about it and doesn't fuck your shit up, you're supposed to use `checkinstall` to make a .deb...if you just type `make install` you ruined it.
