I was kinda wishy-washy on this show until this latest episode. I kind of wish that the story just picked up right from the beginning instead of going with a ramp up slice of life section where the MC has amnesia. It's like episodes 2 through 7 were completely superfluous. Whatever, the chaos sorcerer dude is hilarious. I actually really like the way they set this one up though. That one dude just straight up became a chaos cultist, but it seemed like all of the other scientists were essentially just taking sides on whether or not they trusted the corporations and governments. I wish the creator had focused on all of this stuff immediately instead of doing the standard introduction and ramp up arc.
Another example of wasted opportunity is how we were just now filled in about robutt's butt being built to his waifu's specs. Knowing that specific bit of backstory would have made the more slice of life section more interesting than the "Grrr I don't like coils because of deep, dark amnesia reasons" that we got. Even though amnesia was used to hide the reasoning from the viewer, we still got the outcome of how Kyoma acted because of the hidden reasons. We were shown that he was angsty over coils and stuff, but told to wait for an explanation. It's not like any of the revelations changed our perception of him as a character so much as they filled in the blanks for details whose consequences we already understood. I really wish they did more animation like the demonic vision of fury for his appearance near the end. Can you imagine if every "colored background emphasis/reaction face" shot was done in a similarly exaggerated (though not necessarily the same rough sketched form) way? I mean I guess it costs money, but I find it hard to believe that the Otaku driven industry is really in such bad shape that fans won't reward excellence in artistic presentation. It's kind of hard as a gaijin and someone that refuses to pay the insane price of BDs, but I know that for figures I look for (1. waifu material girls like Kanbaru and Hitei-hime and) distinctive designs either showcasing the best of a character's design or based on specific images. I'd consider buying a Kyoma fig that had a berserk appearance using a design inspired by that using exaggerated edges and coloration to also bridge the gap between 2D purity and 3D materials science, as well as giving the figure a more dynamic presence.
To make the point simple, just look at Hibiki (Symphogear) figures. Having the berserk option makes them more desirable because it's a visual callback that enriches the feeling of owning and displaying it. That's a bit different, but I think you can see what I mean. Visually stimulating animation should by all rights be profitable, so is the market really that bad or are studios just overtaxed, underpaid, uninspired, and lazy (as much as you could call people working in an industry where people actually get worked to death lazy)?

I think it was out of place only because that sort of reaction hadn't been used before and the entire amnesia arc was so bland. They made a clear point of showing that awakened Kyoma is more emotional. He gave out a headpat to the robutt, got worked up over his friend's defiled corpse, and was pretty triggered by the shota's apparent death. I mean really, that assassin was being a total fucking nigger.
Cheapened and stale is what you get when you use colored Bleach panels as dramatic emphasis like the show usually does.

This whole episode felt kinda poorly paced. Just stuff that we either already knew or had been previously implied, but all the characters have to go over it again to get on the same page for the climax. Watching the sorcerer juice people was a nice moment, but everything else was unrewarding. Hell, it also seems that the last episode might end up rushed with how little this episode advanced everything.
