There's not that many series that focus this hard on how people's agendas interact and inevitably crash and burn, which is why I enjoy it, personally.

Speaking of which, I'm waiting for the kickoff of this glorious fireball. Team Izaya vs Team Celty vs Aoba's Neo-Dollars vs the Yellow Scarves should be pretty fun to watch. I'm assuming Simon and his boss are going to join Celty's group, given the Egor connection, but that doesn't explain why Simon has a Chinese assault rifle in the ED.

I wish Japan would introduce a fine for every show that takes place in high school with a perfectly average protagonist.

 No.404163

Why is the second season's plot exactly the same as the first season's?

>3 groups

>they mostly don't want to fight each other

>Izaya manipulates people/information which leads to misunderstanding

>misunderstanding makes them fight eachother

>mc does nothing at all and is a beta faggot

Also that ex-blue square guy in S2 is so needlessly edgy that it makes no sense.

 No.404210

I really liked the first season, all the characters were great, the drama and suspense was good, celty makes me feel funny like climbing the rope in gym class, and it's got a weird urban vibe that I haven't seen many other places.

Still haven't watched the second season, need to get around to it.

 No.404218

First season is okay, second season sucks balls. Thats it.

 No.404279

I really liked Baccano. A lot. Would I like this?

 No.404283

The second season has been so needlessly dragged out that it's just annoying to watch it. It's not bad, but it's just a bit of a rehash from the first season, but shittier.

Seriously though. Whose great idea was it to stretch this shit out over 5 seasons? It's been over a year since this arc of the story started, real time. I don't even give a fuck anymore.

 No.404438

>>404163

I'm enjoying watching Mikado collapse into insanity after the one time that the Dollars were his personal army and now have grown beyond his control.

I think the main theme of the second season is that more powerful organisations are taking notice of the stuff that goes down in the first season and they're trying to profit from it. Nebula has a bigger influence through Shingen and his wife turning up; the Yakuza have decided that the Dollars being a new kind of gang is a danger to their current business model and are looking to crack down on it; hell, the Mafiya's getting involved now. I don't really see how it's the same thing over again when they're being told over and over again that they're small fish in a big pond and facing the consequences.

 No.404471

>>404438

But the core plot is essentially the same, just different/more players. They're all fighting because of a misunderstanding .

Dollars is just an internet forum in irl yet everyone thinks they're a scary gang, blue square/yellow scarf are just troublemakers, and the supernatural people are just there for no reason. Somehow the yakuaza and mafia get involved too, but in the end it's all just a big misunderstanding. Exactly like S1.

 No.404480

>>404471

Who, at the minute, is really motivated by a misunderstanding?

The only misunderstanding that really applies at the minute is Mikado thinking he's in charge of the Dollars. Masaomi's come back to slap some sense into Mikado's thick head. Celty's looking to get her head back from Izaya so she can hand it to Shingen for safe keeping until Shinra dies. Aoba's looking to muscle in on Izaya's game and is way the fuck in over his head. Izaya and Yodogiri Jinnai are wrestling over being the premier information brokers in the city. I could go on.

At this point, everyone knows what they're doing and why.

 No.404527

>>404279

No. It's way less fun, paced worse, the focus is on boring highschoolers instead of literally everyone else (cringed fucking hard when blond guy turned out to be a gang leader). When it does get the ball rolling with all the right people involved, it gets interesting, but rest of the time you're stuck with just meh.

 No.405274

>>404279

Probably. It's definitely less good, but I enjoyed it. It has the fun of the chaotic storyline that Baccano has.

I loved the first season at the least. The second season seems to drag on and isn't as good though.

 No.405379

what is the point of this show? that everyone involved is an insufferable faggot? if you enjoy this show, you also probably enjoy the taste of ball sweat.

 No.405690

The OP this season has to be the worst of them all. All parts of it.

 No.407687

I can't even keep up with all the character interactions any more. Who's mad at who? What's the agenda of this person? And so on. Especially the chatroom interaction. I'm having a HELL of a hard time placing voice to character, particularly when the character hasn't actually appeared on-screen for a while.

This season has just stretched out way too damn long.

 No.409991

DRRR has the problem of being way too big for a seasonal release. Shitloads of characters, plotlines and so on. It's something that takes up notoriety once it's done and you can binge it, not confusing anything with other animu you watched at the same time.

Also anyone saying S2 sucks has shit taste.

It's probably the least interesting of the subplots so far. That said, the teacher owning a Saika is an interesting development, as is learning that Saikas work on a 'last touch' basis. Kind of wish he'd kept the beard, though. I'm a sucker for beards indicating character development.

I'm glad they didn't just have Chikage ruining Masaomi's shit during the fight, which I was expecting, since Chikage took, what, three or four punches from Shizuo before going down?

Also, I'm not really liking this current trend of absolutely everyone being superhuman freaks. Shizuo being Chief Shit-Wrecker seems to have lost its bite when Chikage can survive a four-storey fall with no ill effects, and Izumii can take a full force punch to the forehead and not bat an eye. Maybe it was always like that and I didn't notice.

Speaking of that punch, Jesus CHRIST, is that Masaomi's forearm coming through his hand? Didn't even notice until I came back for the screenshots.

I have no idea who the hell that is. I thought it was a completely new character. It's been too long.

Second cour of season 2 was a fucking drag, man.

They shouldn't have split it into three airing periods like this. Just air it back to back like literally anyone else would.

That said I respect their resolve to finish the series (the studio itself was formed solely for this purpose, since Brain's Base couldn't do it - all of the original staff migrated to Shuko to finish it together) and I'll be there with them. It's almost over anyway, and every week is one week closer to POP POP POP WATCHIN NIGGAS DROP .

Quality horse running animation.

Too much time was devoted to Varona's autistic rambling. She's not very interesting, and the parts she plays in the overall plot and confrontation are so little that it just feels like wasted minutes focusing on her.

Who is Saki? The one that greeted Sonohara?

 No.423796

Ok, these past two or so episodes have been almost as interesting as the first arc of the entire series. What the FUCK though, it took like 3 seasons to set up one arc. I'm sure someone can defend it as being 2deep4U or as being more focused on the developments of an ensemble cast, but fuck that shit. Only some of the most minor characters have really changed at all. The entire conflict for this arc is that the three at the center specifically haven't changed at all even though they all want to and could have easily done so if they just spoke once about it. Introducing an entire new set of characters for each arc doesn't mean you are developing anything. We know more about Saika than any of the hosts because they don't talk about anything else. Well that and pretty much every female's backstory is, "Some morbid stuff happened in my past (and possibly I was never human at all), so now I'm a sociopath/swordhost/yandere/indecisive cunt/otaku."

What's her face showing up to talk with emo tits and Luffy listening to Kida are pretty much the only times anyone has ever just sat down to hash things out.

It's a fucking anime soap opera, and I don't think many people worthy of respect will come to a valiant defense of the merits of soap operas.

Can you imagine being some Nip kid and having to pay for the LNs as they come out and being blueballed through all this? No wonder those poor guys turn out to be deranged fetishists.

I keep waiting for there to be a Monogatari style explanation of how there is a disturbance that is causing an increase in the number of non-humans in the area which is in turn causing some humans to reach inhuman potentials. It would even center perfectly around Celty, with Mikado mentioning her leaving the city in this episode too. I'm not sure if that would make me like the series more or just compare it even more unfavorably against the Monogatari series though.

How does something which had such a snappy beginning with the Dollars arc go so completely to shit as far as all sense of pacing or control over the story?

Hmm I have seen the first four episodes so far and I must say it's a good series. It appears to be quite mainstream (something I wouldn't expect, given the setting and structure of it) but this shouldn't make it less attractive.

I certainly do see why people wouldn't like this series, it's..convoluted for the lack of a better term and there is no clear plot involved. I would catergorize it as a slice-of-life anime with a grim and philosophical setting. I can think it will result in a Nitzschean conclusion, saying that people shouldn't over-analyze things as the setting might intentionally be shrouded in fog.

Lel yeah sorry guys, I was drunk as shit then. I have watched the first season now and take back what I've said. Everything felt like a big disappointment. The Saika/Mother thing, Kida being a gang leader, the gangs being just a group of children, nobody is ever in _real_ danger etc.

In the end, the show had great potential due to the setting, but it got wasted. I don't know. Is it worth it to continue when the first season was already 'meh'?

Read over the entire thread and see the general consensus?

Though the next 30 episodes are a whole bunch more of the same shit, I think it's worth it. That's probably just my particular distaste for stopping things halfway though. Maybe wait for this season, the final one (finally,) to end before catching up.

I have great suspicion that if you do this, it'll be a much better experience for you than the ones at ground zero, so to speak. I imagine much of the problems and complaints of the current season will instantly diminish if you watch it all in one large chunk, instead of stretched over a year and a half of real time.

Maybe the first Durarara. The first and second season of Durararara x 2 has been a mix of redoing the first season and a lot of pointless excursions that don't matter but the end of that season course where something actually happens. There was some interesting flashback moments but if you want to get the main jist of what's going on and not waste too much time, the previews at the begininning of each episode will speed that up easily. Third season finally got to something interesting at the halfway mark and I feel like caring about it now.

I'm not sure how anyone can follow Durarara's plot at times. I know it has more style than substance but it just has so many of those Tarentino moments of dialogue that doesn't contribute anything. It's just interesting for its own sake. I been watching Durararara x 2 at the start and I didn't get what they were going for until this season. It may be contributed to me watching a lot of anime each season and never rewatching x2 but I've had no trouble with any other anime than this. It feels like I have to go back and take notes of each little detail in an episode and even when I have it all together, I'll get it a little but I still wouldn't be satisfied.
