Satoru is one dumb little nig though. He knows this aint a game. He should be carrying around a little knife, at the very least.
For being 30 years old, his solutions to all these problems are all very childish. Did he think the killer would just give up and quietly call it quits if some specific little faggot kept preempting his targets? Did he think he, himself, was immune to getting abducted by what is obviously a highly intelligent serial killer?
Also, seatbelts are not that damn constricting. If your life is in very imminent danger, you can wriggle out of those fuckers with desperation fueling you.

So I finally finished the manga, what a roller coaster ride it turned out to be. The reunion with Airi at the end feelt a bit too convenient, but I still accept it, I am all for happy endings. I don't quite get how Satorus mother saved the little girl at the end. Whoever here saying NTR in regards to Kayo is seriously stupid, do you honestly think that she would wait 15 years for him, especially after being told that most likely he won't wake up? How stupid. Who the killer is is quite obvious, there was really no one else it could be. When you see his glove compartment filled with candy, it was, for me, pretty much set in stone. The manga was really enjoyable. I was constantly on edge, wondering if things would turn out alright / wondering if anyone might die. The characters are all good, even the villian. Am I the only one who got some Kotomine Kirei vibes from him? Something like how they don't really get regular human emotions, and what they are looking for is happiness / excitement in life. Something they only seem to get from murder/disasters. Also, best mom is best mom.

>It's not NTR, he was in a coma
By throwing away Kayo's relationship with the MC, the author took the only worthwhile part in the manga, the one he spent most of the manga developing, and threw it in the trash in one chapter. It's a shitty end to something that was built up for most of the damn chapter. The reader doesn't even know why she likes the trap. I was at least expecting some sort of "I don't want to be cucked" conflict within the MC, but he accepts it pretty damn easily. The author really just should not have had him in a fucking coma.
Part of what the series seemed to be leading to was an Airi vs Kayo conflict. Whom will the MC like better? That just gets completely dropped because of cuckoldry. It feels like the main reason the MC gets Airi is because Kayo is now taken, not because he actually likes her better. Not like the MC seems to even care about either much, seeing as he accepts getting cucked so easily.
Villain was fine, but too obvious and backstory was shoehorned in. When the reveal comes, the story does a complete 180, from protecting his victims by befriending them(in the past) to catching the murderer (in the future after he gets away with most of his crimes). It would be acceptable if the author didn't just seem to completely discard everything that happened up to that point.
In the end, this show was wasted potential. I'm going in the past to save my mother from a murderer, so instead of trying to catch the murderer, I'm going to focus on protecting the victims. In the beginning, when he had no clues, this was fine, but when the guy visits Kayo in the bus and Satoru does nothing about it, it's idiotic.
How the fuck does Revival work? I suppose the author doesn't need to completely answer the question for the series to work, but my autism makes this bother me. When he jumped forward, which by the way never happened in a revival before, did his body just go on autopilot for 18 years? When he's in a coma he was unable to save people like he did in the other timeline for 15 years yet the future didn't change significantly.
The police are ridiculously incompetent. The entire framing in the other timeline served no purpose and made no sense. The MC is the murderer of his mother despite having no motive or anything linking him to the crime? This is convincing enough that we need to make him televise his image everywhere! I suppose it gave Airi some characterization (still not enough to justify the ending), but that could've been achieved without the forced urgency. Additionally, why would they use the cancer girl as bait without taking all possible precautions? They're literally risking her life to find evidence for the murderer when they use her as bait.
I was expecting some sort of romance/mystery hybrid, but in the end it was a half-developed romance with a mystery subplot scrapped 3/4th of the way via NTR to complete the mystery subplot. In many cases, it assumes way too much suspension of disbelief and does nothing despite that. Kayo part was cute tho, 8/10

People take the (very fucking short) relationship he had with Kayo way too much to heart, without considering the fact that he has a mind 18 years older than the body he's in. I understand the sentiment, since this is objectively the relationship a reader/viewer will be bound to most, but, also objectively there would be something off (to say the least) with him to legitimately be attracted to an actual 11 year old girl. Instead of shouting "NTR!", it's actually the most rational way to have everyone get out of this situation happy - if we are to look at this from a realistic perspective, Kayo waiting for him to wake up would imply she wants to be romantically involved with someone on the mental level of an 11-year old (she doesn't know different, after all), and him having feelings for Kayo would mean the reverse, which is not all that better. I've probably tangled myself up in my stream of thinking but I think my point mostly comes across.
No.438506
>>438502
I'm not saying that they should've had Kayo wait for him. I'm saying that the coma lets the author throw away entire romance plot in a very unsatisfying manner just to let him finish the mystery subplot. I think it would be better for the coma not to have happened in the first place. I honestly think another Revival deus ex machina would've been better if it gave some decent closure. Although maybe I did take the Kayo relationship too seriously.

When he first talks about Revival, he mentions that if he can stop whatever incident from happening, then he often gets fucked over in the process. Save a kid from a truck? He gets in the hospital. Save a girl from a kidnapper? His mother gets killed. Delay a girl's death by a day? He gets arrested for his mother's murder. Save a few kids in a row? He loses 18 years of his life Unfortunately there is no best ending for him. Either guilt for not helping someone, like he had for the 18 years before this started, or get fucked by his altruism

I wish I could say I was surprised, but people are LITERALLY retarded if they expected Kayo NOT to move on after 15 fucking years.
I mean, at that point EVERYONE would assume he would have brain damage IF he ever woke up, and if not - they could only assume that he was a kid in a mans body since he never shared his secret with anyone, though they probably wouldn't have believed it anyway.
In context, it makes sense. Does it suck? Maybe, but it would've been WORSE story-telling for something along these lines to be completely thrown out.

Compared to the manga, the show was more Kayo-centric so viewers that didn't read the original work were lead to believe or to create the idea that maybe She was the romantic lead but even if you go to that route it is not feasible in the context of the show.
We always want a happy ending, because in the real world such thing is not always granted. We want justice to prevail, but again that is not the case. I do agree that the director and everyone involved created expectations of a different ending, but if they went with that illusion, the show would have shifted its tone and probably dissatisfied more people than now.

Like I said here >>437641 previously, the show invests so much time to the childhood-timeline, that I thought that the MC started to forget his previous life too. I too honestly was more invested on that timeline, so it was a pretty nasty wake-up call into the reality of the situation.
I don't know what the manga or the original novel made about it, but I'd imagine that Satoru was ready to build his life again completely on this new timeline, as his previous life was pretty much wasted away because of the murders in his childhood.
And after all that said, I was happy that they didn't remind us about the beginning of the series last minute to soften the punch.

Actually it's consistent with how stupid Satoru has been this whole time. Dude can't think his way out of a seatbelt as a not-12 year old.

What the fuck. Why would you do this to someone who might not have gotten over you yet? Wait until he's out of the hospital at least.

This episode went from "Oh shit!" to "What the fuck!?" really quickly. I'm pissed about Kayo more than anything, though. They were so cute together, damn it!

His best friend clearly didn't. He's clearly been preparing for him to wake up, find out whoever put him in a coma, and get his ass in jail. The only thing they did with his character in the first half was get him to be the most on board with "I can't tell you why, but there's a serial killer on the loose". Suddenly coma happens to the only friend, who he respects and looks up to, telling him that this whole time right after he said he was going to go investigate some shit on his own.
>He went to school to become a lawyer
>He's hanging out with the journalist from before that was on board with his mom exposing the truth before she got stabbed
Dude basically dedicated his life to getting justice/revenge for Satoru.

This thread is autism. You faggots are the reason moeshit is so rampant. The show is a mystery thriller and 2/3rds of this thread is MY FAVOURITE 11 YEAR OLD DIDN'T GET WITH THE MC. WAHHHH . Holy shit. And I could sit here and quote people why they're retarded, but let's pick the big points.
He couldn't escape from the car. If the anime said it was because he couldn't escape his seatbelt, it's either a mistranslation, or the director being retarded. Completely ignoring how the villain is supposed to be a Lelouch/Light level KEIKAKU, and would plan for a little button latch, an eleven year old can open a buckle, but then what retard? Congrats, you have free reign on the inside of a vehicle underwater. You are 11. That's all you can do, because you have neither the strength nor tools to open the door/window. And even if you could open the door, you'd drown anyway. Next, he was befriending people to STOP THE KILLER. He didn't give a shit about them, as it's said a few times he doesn't care for people, and the first time he was 11, they died because they didn't know/give a shit. Stopping the killer was the ONLY reason to befriend the outcasts. Oh god what else.
People are mad at the coma thing? Is the coma what >>438490 is referencing by a Revival that went forward? Manga fag here. If so, that's retarded. Regardless, the coma was an incredibly key plot-point. It prevented a lot of actions he could've otherwise taken, and more importantly, the series would've ended when he was 11. "Oh you were in a car crash. What happened?" "Sensei killed bitches, I found out, tried to kill me." *Run credits* Wee, fun
Also, read the manga. They do none of the characters justice in the anime. I watched the first episode, and it does NO ONE any favours. The killer frames the main character by leaving the knife in plain view, then hiding in the landlady's garden. So when the character steps out, because he knows the killer is close, he sees him, and gives chase. This is the reason he's pursued. He has the knife, blood on his hands, and he ran out to an adjacent street. Screams of guilt. But that's thrown out the window in the anime. I can only imagine what else they butchered. Sounds like MC as well, and how fucking awesome Airi was.

No wonder. That was a big thing that bothered me. I know the Japanese legal system is a bit fucked but surely they would understand a son having blood on his shirt after discovering his mother being stabbed. Rest of the post is spot.

>You faggots are the reason moeshit is so rampant.
Oh boy here we go.
>The show is a mystery thriller
As a mystery it falls completely flat because there is literally one suspicious character that wasn't ruled out in the first 3 or so episodes, and then we have another 7 episodes of the MC blindly trusting the obvious culprit, with every bit of new information merely incriminating the obvious suspect further rather than adding any, well, mystery.
It's no wonder people talk about other aspects of the show, because loli Fremy is far more interesting/entertaining than the pitiful excuse for a mystery.
>open a buckle
An 11 year old doesn't need to open a buckle to get out of an adult seatbelt, they can just slip out the top or bottom.
>no strength to open the window
It was already open. Even if we assume he lacks the strength to pull the handbrake before the car goes into the water, he doesn't need strength to slam the horn. inb4 "what if the horn was disconnected" he didn't even fucking try anything so we'll never know.
Satoru has zero survival instinct for someone who is supposedly over 20 years old mentally.
>the manga is better I swear
People say this all the time about series they are outspoken about. Often when I bother to check, the [source material] suffers from a lot of the same problems the anime adaptation does, sometimes having some more problems of its own. From the few chapters I read (the candy in the car to the drowning) I saw nothing that changed my mind about the series.
I don't really see anything of value in BokuMachi beyond the pandering to protective instincts in Kayo and the initial attention-grabber of "revival" (which quickly wears off).

Besides which, the moment would have been more powerful if he had actually struggled to get out alive and been foiled at every turn, right after having bested the villain the same way. Instead of what it was, which was basically, "Oh, this is the part where the villain kills him... okay... okay... there it is, can't wait until the next episode where I find out he's alive." The only line of dialogue in the whole scene to keep anyone's attention was "I know your future", noting that's probably going to be important to how the rest of the scene plays out backstage and to the villain's motivations later on.
It was boring as fuck.
