Is anyone still following Attack on titan? If so, the new chapter is out.

My interest in SNK dropped significantly after every titan shifter reveal. The world used to be an asymmetrical war against a new horror monster, now it's a shitty Devilman.

But of course, I still follow it out of habit. I wonder if I will ever notice that I have died, when I do.

Have they revealed what is in the basement yet?

Will they ever?

 No.437115

The last five chapters could have been condensed to one and it would still feel too fucking slow.

>>437113

No, they're dragging on this fight for another 10 chapters and then maybe they might mention it again and then just fuck off and do something else for another 20 chapters.

>still asking about the basement

>still expecting this to make sense

Titans can't move at night. No one hunts them at night. Titans can't climb the walls. No one uses the walls for evacuation or barracks.

The author is an otaku whose knowledge of the world is limited to clashing figurines together. He has no clue of the lengths people used to go by to survive, with walls and moats and villages on top of cliffs.

To be fair, wasn't this supposed to be significantly shorter, like to the point where none of this ass-pullery matters?

I don't know, but I remember it got first rejected because of how retarded it was. He had to cut down on the shonen tropes, as originally the characters were just very good jumpers who cut down giants with katanas.

But if you wanna know what's in the basement, don't forget that the rejected issue zero also came with the backstory... a blatant Nausicaa ripoff.

>100 years prior, the religious and scientific groups who had committed the global crisis to memory

>took action for their protection with the 'mankind destruction operation'

>the giants were keen and above all else, immortal

>they were creatures who surpassed us living beings and were capable of shapeshifting

Read it 2 minutes ago, forgot what happened because it was 41 pages of basically nothing.

Fucking hell.

That's what I've heard. It would explain why everything's so drawn out and padded now - the manga wants to keep the chapters coming to keep the volumes rolling, the author had this idea for a story and probably is trying to conserve as much of the original idea as he can, so he's just stretching things out.

You're making too much sense, anon. Oh look, another major character turns out to be a titan. What a twist!

I miss that. It was like a zombie apocalypse, where the zombies were massive, and humans were like insects that had to attack in swarms to have any hope of taking them down.

It had this ragtag, desperate feel, of humans fighting against an overwhelming and unstoppable foe. A sense of doom hung over the characters, which actually made their fighting back more badass. Every victory was a massive "fuck yeah!"

I just wish Eren had stayed dead. Him coming back as a giant was the beginning of the end. It switched the dynamics from humans in awesome grappling hook gear zipping around and attack in swarms, to humans playing support for the transformer who punches giants to death.

Shit sucks. And it's only gotten worse with each reveal.

M8 that happens once. The surprise of the other characters being titans were that they were random background characters that you wouldn't pay attention to, but when you did you'd realize they hinted at it all along.

See, I don't understand fans like you. The Eren reveal happens almost immediately, even if you're talking the manga. It's not like it was that bad, either. He couldn't use his powers for shit and it was more harm than it was worth. Hating "what SNK became" when Eren turned into a titan is like hating "what Dragon Ball became" when Bulma introduced Goku to capsules.

At least hate it for a decent reason. The pacing turning to shit, the reveals taking way too long and getting hyped up way too much for shit that's obnoxiously obvious (the Grisha reveal, for example), other mysteries getting straight-up dropped for like 50 chapters(Ymir-sama??), fujoshit pandering, adding background stories to characters that don't need them, etc.

The worst is that the creator is adapting to the anime's style of making everyone have obnoxious monologues for no goddamn reason, and having powers get way overblown. I have a very strong feeling that that chapter where Eren punches a titan and gets his coordinate powers was because of the anime over-exaggerating titan transformations and adding smoke and lightning everywhere with lots of screaming and blood and crying.

Only a matter of time before Erwin becomes a titan shifter and is basically immortal and Hange becomes a shell of her former self to be the comic relief she is in the anime, rather than a legitimate character who's slotted to be the next commander.

The titans were a really cool concept, until they ruined everything with shifters. So the series was good for about all of five minutes, like everything else that seems to be popular with normalfags nowadays.

If my stupid faggot friend has to gush to me about it, I swear I am going to strangle him.

 No.437342

Even if the titan shifters took out the horror element from the series, I always found the idea of humans doing things that might lead to the end of humanity as a whole pretty interesting. So it didn't really bug me the wrong way. But the military is fucking incompetent and the anime is trying too much to be dramatic, without having means to be dramatic. And killing characters is just done for shock value.

Like most people, I loved the first eight episodes and am only really reading/watching now to see what happens to Sasha. I've not kept up with SnK in ages, though; how is she?

This ain't even waifufaggotry, she's just one of the most fun characters there. The potato joke in the anime and the badass archery in the manga just made her consistently good for me.

She's still alive, but she was supposed to die chapters ago, shortly before the Utgard thing and I think shortly after Connie found his titan-mom.

The only reason she isn't dead yet is because of fags like you who think she's fun when she's boring comic relief that needs to die to get the series to return to its grim aura. She has no character arc left over and has no reason to survive anymore.

 No.437430

Yeah, no, the faggots who complain about the titan shifters are retards. It played such a small role and Eren was the only one that wasn't either a chaotic neutral or trying to find a way to exterminate all humans, so it's not like it was some NGE shit or something. It kept a grim aura because Eren's power almost never meant anything except for like 1 or 2 moments where it saved some people from being killed. Even when he was fighting there were still people being squashed while praying or chomped on by titans that he wasn't bothering with. It still had the grim aura.

>the faggots who complain about the titan shifters

When you get older, you acquire the valuable ability of telling lies to children. You know what they want to hear, so you can sway their opinion wherever you wish. It's the staple of parenting.

That also brings the ability to detect such behaviour in others: in example, in power fantasy anime about children who find invincible magic items or get to pilot\become a giant mech. Of course, the feeling of being fed such bullshit when you're no longer a child yourself, is the opposite of gratifying.

Just imagine another canon where titan shifters never appeared and humanity had gradually lost all walls. Stories about people living in the wilderness, unconventional warfare being developed like hunting titans at night, maybe just burying them because no blades. Awful societal changes, like people living in trench cities or underground in the ruins of the city. Compare with Eren training to punch Bertoldt harder.

I thought the reason no one hunts titans at night was because of visibility? I vividly remember back during the Connie's mom incident that some squads were trailing the wall, looking for its theoretical breach but they could barely see in front of each other with the lanterns.

I thought the reason why the walls aren't used for anything other than wall-mounted weapons is because the walls are "holy" so it was forbidden to do such things.

 No.437552

Funnily enough, the live-action movies addresses these points.

> Titans CAN move at night and can see just fine unlike humans; their inactivity is actually to conserve energy due to lack of solar power (yes, titans are powered by the sun, they don't actually gain nourishment from eating humans.

> Not only don't they have enough resources to fix the wall, the humans LACK any knowledge on how to repair them in the first place for some reason. So instead of dispatching people to man/study/reinforce the walls, they treat it as "untouchable" ground and keep away from it.

>Aimed for release this year, the series was set to create original content as the manga was still being written. Well not any more. Attack on Titan season 2 has been suspended for this exact reason. The creator of the franchise Hajime Isayama and the director of the anime Tetsuro Araki have both stated the manga should always be four story arcs ahead of the anime series. This means original content will not be required and keep the alignment between the manga and the anime that fans have come to expect. The manga is currently only two story arcs ahead of the anime, which means Tetsuro Aaraki can not complete the second series of the anime without creating original content.

I guess that's confirmation that they're actually going to adapt these last few shitty arcs instead of skimming over them.

The entire second half of the second season will have literally nothing happening. It'll be worse than the Boulder episodes.
