They were already nearing their breaking point at the time, and once they realized they could put out nonsensical low-effort trash and people would eat that shit up regardless they just stopped caring.

Khara and TRIGGER took most people worth a damn with them and even then didn't do so hot. I don't think modern Gainax can even remotely reach it's former glory. Although I really would like for Aoki Uru to be good.

It's fine but suffers from being a poor adaptation that doesn't really do justice to the source material.

Literally the only below-average show on that list is Shikabane Hime. Medaka Box and C3bu suffer from genre shifts that turn some people off but are still otherwise fine. Although C3bu doesn't follow the source at all.

PSG and Pleiades are great, Magica Wars is fine if you appreciate that it's essentially a pixiv art collaboration and is part of a larger project not meant to be viewed as a stand-alone thing.

Hanamaru Kindergarten is great if you like cute shit. No sexualizing allowed.

Gainax only gets a lot of flak these days because they're just another studio now. They're not producing hits one after another like they used to, but they're not terrible either. And even then, Gainax still produced some top-quaity garbage back in the day. Pic related.
