The bd came out recently and are already available with english subs. How are you guys not talking about it?

I think it was a fantastic movie, the story flows really well and the visuals are simply amazing. I understand some autists can get mad about they not realizing the 3 years gap difference, anyone would have realized checking a fucking calendar but I think that's the least of its problem considering how good everything else is.

Because a company made of cancer licensed it and sat on it for a year. In fact, this may be the longest gap between theatre and home video for a movie in about 20 years.

We have at least one generation alive that has lived to see all movies released in theatres eventually coming to home video, and a lot of that is from how miserable of an experience the movie theatre is.

Just finished this, it was pretty good; well animated, plot kept me hooked, chaacters were reasonably well-developed and believeable. Occasionally I cry a bit when watching anime, but that didn't happen here, though it was pretty impactful and with a satisfying resolution. Although now I do feel more empty inside than usual. I guess I can see how this made so much fucking money, people are suckers for love stories - and this was a pretty decent love story. Personally, it is without a doubt my favorite drink. This coming from someone who is somewhat enamored with fine booze (Although I suppose being a weeb faggot probably adds some bias.).

The trick is getting the stuff that's actually made in Japan, which can be quite difficult in North America. As anons mentioned, there are many different types of sake and in my personal experience all you usually find over here is bottom of the barrel Gekkeikan made in USA shit or really high-end expensive stuff; Not good if you're looking to try it out/would like to get drunk off it, respectively.

Once I found a store that imported Hakutsuru sake in 720ml bottles for the same price as Gekkeikan, for a few months. Those were some damn good times, while they lasted.

The story and characters were ok. Definitely not good, but serviceable at the very least. The story telling felt rushed. I think the early body swapping parts went by too quickly to establish the growing care they had for each other. Because of this lack of attachment I had for the characters, it made the rest of the film feel un-involved. I didn't care all that much for MC-kun and MC-chan. The visuals were great. I'm not much of a sound person, but there was nothing wrong with the sounds or with the music. Didn't care for the main theme though.

Just rewatched it. It was still great. To summarise my thoughts, I would say that it is 5cm/s but given a narrative structure and a happy ending. Kimi no Na Wa is a movie that has universal appeal, kinda like Disney or Ghibli, compared to Shinkai's other movies. This is not an insult against the movie. 5cm/s is a beautiful work of art that I love, but its easy to see how it goes over most audience's heads. It's short, not a lot happens and the middle is only loosely tied to the 'real' main story. Kimi no Na Wa is twice its length but doesn't feel it. The pacing is fast and we are introduced and propelled along both characters' stories until they stop swapping. It slows right down here to match the slump of the protagonist at his lowest point and then picks right back up again for the final dash to the ending. I was impressed at how I found myself invested in their struggle even on a 2nd viewing. The same story problem of Taki not knowing the name of Mitsuha's town or about the comet is still there from when I first saw the movie, but it is resolved very quickly so I don't mind it so much. Also, body swapping, time travelling, forgetful magic so you know it can be overlooked. I think the lighthearted tone of the first half of the movie which is abruptly ceased gives the weight to the second half. I really think this is his best movie. Its not the emotional suckerpunch that was 5cm/s but is definitely a more cohesive story and adventure. Its easy to see why it did so well.

I will say that the main song of 5cm/s felt like it would have fitted perfectly with this movie and I found myself yearning for it over the theme in this movie. Also, seeing it on the big screen will be a treasured memory because it very much improved the experience.

Well the continued passing down of the body swapping ability through the bloodline and the preservation of the traditions (making the sake with their spit) were necessary to save the town. The past body swapping itself wasn't directly linked to the the present actions, but the survival of those traditions did play an integral part. The line in question is about mystical magic nonsense and Mitsuha musing about fate. I think you are overthinking it.

I liked it very much.

The movie used some deep mythological elements and archetypes like

>the hero goes into the underworld to save the princess(they literally call the shrine thing underworld)

>One has to leave part of oneself in the underworld in order to return from it (spit sake/memories...)

>They confront the dragon(meteor) by commiting necessary crimes(explosions) and don't only save themselves but also the townfolk

The whole thing is littered with symbolism like pic related where they gaze into infinity

also whats better, short hair or long hair mitsuha?

I hate Jordan Peterson so much.

Fuck this shit, I'm glad Japanese know about Jung and mangle his stuff instead of following Peterson.

Yeah, I hate romance movies, they just leave me feeling sad and longing for what I once had but probably never will again.

Watching romance movies without currently being in a romantic relationship or without the possibility of being in one in the near future is like tearing open a wound and jamming a needle repeatedly into it.

It isn't a pleasant experience.

>they not realizing the 3 years gap difference, anyone would have realized checking a fucking calendar

Idk fam I don't usually look at the year when I look at calendars, I kinda assume its the same year I was in yesterday unless its new years day. Besides who in the modern year modern time looks at a calendar when they've got cell phones? The cell phones normally don't include the current year, only the current month/day/time.

You'd still notice because the days of the week wouldn't line up with the date.
