I have no memory of Index 2, the mini recap helped but I have no recollection of anything other than the nuns going deaf and getting punched if that even happened.

Also there's barely any subs, some random guy subbed it(or translated from another language translation?) but I watched it raw and that guy probably won't sub the whole season.

No one here uses CR but someone needs to tell them to fucking put the Japanese script as subs for Japanese learners so erai raws can pull it. The last line in that one guy sub was in Italian so I assume he translated a translation. At least with raw script it's easy to translate.

Going by the OP, it looks like this season will cover another 6 volumes. About average compared to the previous two, but if they ever get to season 4 there's only WWIII and some side stories to cover for the original series. Don't tell me they'll kill the mood for the finale by having it end on NT1.

Should I read the light novel?

 No.867501

>>867499

I read all of them and had fun, but it might no be your cup of tea. If you liked the anime and want a more in-depth look at the scenes we've already seen and will see now (besides the entirety of the New Testament that would need about 3 more seasons of anime to catch up and by then Kamachi would have cooked at least one season more of books and a couple new series) I'd say yes.

 No.867503

>>867499

Yes. Be prepared for a lot of reading though. The original series is 22 volumes long, and NT is up to 21. That's 43 books excluding the side stories and stuff. I really need to catch up. Still haven't started NT 12 yet.

 No.867539

The LNs are the de facto way to experience Index. The anime is just adaptations that loses 75% of the charm and feeling of what is in the books.

 No.867690

>>867539

Thats almost always the case with LN adaptations. Most of Touma's thoughts and all of Kamachis narrative (often hilarious) is lost when animated.

>>867476

>6 volumes

If my memory is right the trip to France brings biggest fag of Gods right seat and is volume 14 or 15. That leaves 16,17,18, and 19. Curtana. Dark Matter. Acqua. Hamazura. So much good shit is coming later I dont want to wait half a year for all of it. Thats good news since they won't touch WW3. Assuming this is a 2 cour adaptation they can do up to the start of the war some justice since this is the crescendo to the climax of the whole old testament. The problem is the story is left on a huge cliffhanger reliant on BD sales to get season 4 and adapt the war. I'll personally fly to Japan and Toumapunch any retard at JCStaff that tries to adapt the war into a 90 minute movie

I only like a tsundere when I know that she is going to get dicked romanced and that she won't be a bitch forever. The problem is that all these series give these tsundere's so little dere that they aren't tsundere's anymore, just bitches with the capacity to be nice to you on a rare occasion. It's like calling Umaru a tsundere for her brother because sometimes she is nice to him but most of the time she acts like a total piece of shit who just uses him. You shouldn't make a character a tsundere if you don't have the intention of her opening up to the MC over time and becoming friendly towards him, especially if the series isn't romance based where it would feel out of place for this to happen. Making the heroine in this a tsundere is just to bait people on to read so that hopefully they will see her next dere moment where she doesn't act hostile or neutral towards the MC, and to pander to doujin artists who will go and make doujins of Misaka and Touma, giving more attention to the series.

>>871293

She was fine in Railgun, where it was just a CGDCT but with action sequences. But in the main series where she is supposed to be a romantic partner she is shitty, because she doesn't work well being put in that role. Interacting with other people where she is just supposed to be an autist with super human abilities because that's exactly what she is, trying to force her into the role of a normal girl who is getting romanced and won over by the MC doesn't because she is supposed to be autistic and full of herself so that she always tries to one-up people who are better than her, instead of having to admit defeat. That's why she never left Touma alone and would constantly fight him, she couldn't admit the fact that someone had power over her and that she was able to be beaten. Also in Railgun, Touma isn't present, so she doens't have to worry about the fact that at any point someone who is stronger than her could come up and beat her, she is assured by the fact that the people around her are not as strong as she is and if anything were to happen, then she would have the higher ground.

 No.871316

>>871305

>But in the main series where she is supposed to be a romantic partner

Misaka is not a romantic partner. Its a one-sided love that the audience is taking too seriously. In the novels this is made clear when Touma talks about his feelings for Index and Index only. Kamachi either isnt good or doesnt like writing plain romance so this kind of thing doesn't come up too often in his novels, although he wrote that one LN about MC marrying a Valkyrie never and getting a harem instead.

You're a retard and objectively wrong. Nothing about the two is identical. Compare the mouth, neck, ears, jaw and chin. Hell, the hair is different too. If you draw two similar characters from scratch, how the hell is it copypasting?

Why does a photographic background bother you? It seems like a good thing to me, although obviously you dont need as much artistic talent to insert characters in a touched up photo than draw the whole background from scratch. If someone used the photo to assist in drawing shadows, details, and reflections so the drawn parts are very hard to tell different from the photo, that would be excellent. To be fair, if no one pointed out the photo background I would never have noticed.

Am I the only one who sees a real problem with Imagine Breaker in a lot of instances? it goes like this, Touma is brought to deal with the threat because he can nullify it, then he suggest nullifying something that is on the way (the conduit or something that goes to the palace) but the characters say "no Touma, don't do it, let's just do something more complicated and risky."

 No.872636

>>872617

Its not a problem with Imagine Breaker. Its a problem with the power level of the people Touma is around. In the current story Gods right seat is the nearly invincible foe that essentially only Touma can beat but everyone around him would rather avoid a head on battle since they would die. Hence delete the leyline (or whatever it was) for the C document instead of fighting Terra head on for the document.

 No.872647

>>872617

The conduit is the leyline they're using, right? A leyline is a natural flow of power through the planet, due to the shape and arrangement of the surrounding landscape. It could be considered as part of Earth's life force. Best case scenario for Touma punching it is that Imagine Breaker does nothing, like how magicians use their own life force to cast magic but IB doesn't negate that life force and outright kill people. The worse case is that it destroys the leyline entirely and absolutely fucks up the land. No one wants to experiment with that.

As for the controls at the palace, there's no way they could've broken into that location. The wave of rioters was too large to break through, and even then the palace itself would be heavily guarded. Honestly having Itsuwa shift it out of alignment further along the leyline was the safest route. Getting attacked by Terra instead of some magician was just a case of bad luck.

This part felt way too fast probably because it adapted a whole chapter from the LN into one episode. There is backstory with the Aztec magicians that was entirely cut out. The whole magic/science item of interest hasn't been discussed at all either and probably will not be. For anyone that cares its the device that lets you interact with the underline academy city surveillance system. Next week is the dark matter vs accelerator battle which I pray will take two episodes because important plot happens along the way.

 No.875545

The pacing seems seriously fucked, J.C would be better off giving this two seasons and doing it properly. The first few episodes were fine but now it just feels like they're fast forwarding through it all. Slow it down and add some more SOL downtime, it's not like they didn't manage that the last two seasons.

The source material is very far ahead. Index has two main series, the old testament (22 volumes + 2 side story volumes) and the ongoing new testament (21 volumes). This anime (a 2 cour) has adapted volume 14 and we are working through volume 15 of the old testament. The first two seasons at 2 cour each covered the first 13 volumes. Its likely that this adaptation will cover world war three (the end of the old testament) and throw out half the plot because pacing. The index series has enough content to make three more 2 cour anime to adapt the new testament and thats ignoring the fact that Kamachi writes 2 or 3 index LNs annually which is enough to make a 1 cour anime. Also omitted are the 23 volumes of Index side stories in addition to the 2 mentioned as part of the old testament. One of these is related to the Index movie but the rest add background and depth to many of the supporting Index characters. This is enough content to make a long OVA series. This is only in reference to the Index series. The spinoff manga Railgun and Accelerator both written by Kamachi have material to adapt too which is why both have been animated. See Railgun/S and the upcoming Accelerator anime.

To answer your question in a succinct form. Theres enough source material to make at least 78 more episodes of anime at the current super fast adaptation rate.

Maybe the Index main series will end. Touma has faced everyone from magicians, magic gods, espers, whatever Aleister is, whole armies, etc. I think all the parts of Academy City have been covered already along with all the important mythologies and religions. I guess the only missing piece is God and what exactly Imagine Breaker and Touma (the meaning of his name) is. Its been talked about lightly but never the centrepiece of a whole arc.

This is some offhand speculation but during the old testament (around fuse kazakiri) it was mentioned that Aleister was trying to make an artificial heaven obviously with artificial angels. In the AC science if the misaka network and accelerator can provide enough processing capability to make Accelerator Angel Edition then can it be done on a wide scale using the aim diffusion fields and a similarly distributed network (read biggest scale magic spell in history) to turn all espers into angels? Touma would be the God and also the "reset" point brought up during the magic god arc. World Rejector could somehow fit. I feel like Hamazura would have an analog to Christianity too, Jesus perhaps? The end result would be an artificial heaven. I'm not sure if this fits with the motivations and background of Aleister that we know now.

Kamijou "Jesus Christ" Touma this adaptation is terrible. 3 episodes for this volume. I'm pretty sure Hamazura vs Mugino was not adapted correctly at all. I remember Mugino getting burned up in a jet engine testing room and loses both an arm and leg. Not this Touma like punching to the face. Hamazura is not the kind of guy to punch a much stronger opponent like Mugino. Also Fre/nda happened and was not explained at all (even though her death is HUGE plot point after world war III) how she screwed up and how Mugino went from calm and collected to seemingly betraying everyone in ITEM. Accelerator vs Dark Matter was decent but again too fast and zero coverage of the meaning of Last Order and why Accelerator could not do anything when she showed up.

The next volume to be adapted at 100 pages per episode (not much of an overstatement) is the beginning of Acqua of the Back. If anyone is watching this that has not read the LN, please stop and go read the LN. This adaptation is doing nothing but adapting the "cool aesthetic" scenes while assuming viewers have read the LNs already. This is a sham of the story Kamachi wrote.

The jet engine room is way later, they did toned down things like mugino blowing up her arm, kakine breaking uiharu's arm and kakine's arm being torn off the moment accelerator started his autistic screeching. Guess we wont hear mugino wanting to burn takitsubo's crotch.

This. There is a reason why everyone like side chars better Touma is non-character is an excuse for the story to happen. I mean the way they drop him in Avignon is fucking hilarious:

>Some shit is happening literally on the other side of the planet.

>Grabs random student of the street.

>"Hey you go save the city/planet".

>"Ok"

>Fall LITERALLY on his cute Japanese church friend.

>Accelerator, who has an actual reason to be there being a living weapon and basically one of the city attack dog, is the one actually doing the job.

The thing about Touma is that he is used as a puppet by everyone and their mother: Aleister and the board of directors, Lola Coronzon and Necessarius, Thor, that Kihara that was one of the three that wasn't a complete psycopath besides Noukan and the little girl from one of the side stories.

It's not as much that he is a secret weapon from the magic side, it's just that you point him in the direction you want him to go and it ends up furthering your designs until it comes to bite you in the ass.

 No.876982

>>876964

Thats right. He is a tool that gets used by everyone because of his sense of justice. Eventually he gets mad about it like he did with Thor and Birdway but hes not the kind of guy to hold grudges or seek revenge. Perhaps this is also a weakness of his character.

 No.876985

Being new to this and not having seen all the material or remembering most of it, I feel like I got the NGE mindfuck but not as nightmare inducing. Even if I did keep up-to-date, the presentation and pacing so far is confusing to the say the least. It's like it's catering to hardcore viewers of the anime but trying to get new viewers to follow as well with very clunky dialogue or exposition drops here and there. It's like a speeding bullet train that is trying to pick up new passengers, even though the ending destination is going to result in a terrible crash.

 No.877051

> Touma is the secret weapon of the magic side

Except it's the Academy that ships him off, Accelerator leveling the town being the backup plan. But again Accelerator has some sort of internal motivation to be there, because that's his day job. What's Touma motivation? It's "I want to help people", it doesn't get as shallower as this, because you can use that ad infinitum.

>>876982

>>876964

Again it's all terribly shallow, which is why I say he's just an excuse for the story to happen, it's pretty bad for a MC, some of the flimsiest shit there is.

Just the fact that the academy top brass is aware of his power but doesn't do anything about it (when they're experimenting insanely on everyone else... but not on the final solution to the magic problem??? Even if they're keeping him on the DL, you'd except them to try to copy it at least?). But then that would mean a MC character arc which is a big no no if he's just the vector by which the story is told, so fleshing him up would ultimately deserve all the amazing set-pieces he's supposed to showcase.

So yeah worst MC ever.

Thats only half true. Tsuchimikado is a double agent so he has access to AC goodies from their "dark side". Also AC has an alliance with the Anglican Church. Sure Touma went to France on an AC plane but he met and fought with Itsuwa (Anglican). Accelerator is the more "official" AC science representative. As others have mentioned Touma is getting used (again), hence his motivation is almost irrelevant. That said, if I remember correctly when Vento appeared and talked about the goal of Gods Right Seat as an organization, Touma decided to stop them. Him being shallow in your terms is a very common theme not just with Touma but with many characters in this series.

I think it is a little meh tier and they might remaster those rough scenes on the BD release. Probably some of the staff had something going on with them then fucked the schedule or they used that new '3dcg' engine thing for most of the scenes instead of the traditional method.

I'd say the quality isn't as cinematic as previous releases mostly due to the foreground being larger than the background like on the opening and battle scenes which feel a bit cluttered because the foreground/subject are always focused on.

I remember the few couple arcs, the one saving Index and the one saving Misaka, as much better thought. The worldbuilding was kind of interesting and everything felt like true adventures or exceptions to the normal slice of life. I could believe these exceptions better.

But afterwards it just feels really cringy. All the school bois saving the world from random religion shenanigans with superpowers that are all counter of counter of counter and seem kinda retarded.

Also I couldn't cringe anymore with all the "is this ITEM? Or maybe BLOCK? or SCHOOL? Jokes on you it was actually YOUR MOM". I want to kill myself every time they explain how magic, politics, organizations, or anything works. It's just a huge pile of crap, especially Dark Matter holy shit what the fuck was that. I don't mind if you fuck up with the science a bit for plot reasons but here you didn't even fucking read the wikipedia page. Why fucking bother doing all this religion and science crap if you are just gonna shit on it.

Hopefully this arc is not screwed up by JCStaff anymore than usual and gets a decent budget allotment. Another anon mentioned the photographic backgrounds in France. >season 4

That would be a pipe dream beyond the pipe dream of season 3 a couple years ago. In 11 episodes we have adapted volume 14 through part of volume 18 (more than 4 volumes). Its likely episode 12 will finish volume 18. That means in the 12 episodes after next week volume 19 and all of WW3 will be adapted. In other words the war will be butchered into a joke. To put it simply its going to be at the level of "Hamazura, Accelerator, and Touma got super strong instantly and 1HKOd the bad guys?! Raildex sucks and everyone is retarded for liking it".

Any possible season 4 would be covering NT. Lets give JCS the benefit of the doubt and say they adapt NT at a pace slow enough to do the story justice. No one except LN readers would understand the significance of WW3 in setting the stage for Gremlin. Either JCS ignores this or has to retell the end of the war before proceeding. I dont want a season 4 at the current adaptation rate. Shaft has a better approach with monogatari where they adapt whole arcs without caring much about whether it fits into X episodes or not. I'm side stepping their total ignorance of Koyomi's monologue in monogatari.

Unrelated. Japan still loves Touma and Mikoto. Theyre still winning most popular LN character contests.

 No.887703

>>887695

Mikoto won best female in 2010 and has not lost it since including the 2019 awards. Touma won best male in 2011 after 3rd in 2010 and since 2011 has placed 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 3rd, and 1st for 2019.

Best character overall always has Kamachi in contention for the top spots at this point. From 2010 onward

Touma: 3rd, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 5th, 1st, 4th, 1st

Average: 2.6

Mikoto: 6th, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 4th, 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 3rd

Average: 2.6

Accelerator: N/A, 3rd, 5th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 6th, 5th, 6th, 7th

Average: 5.6

Essentially Touma and Mikoto are the most popular male and female LN characters of the last decade. Index herself has a best finish of 3rd against only female characters in 2011. Its worth noting that the LNs first came out in 2004 but despite placing fairly low early on, the series did not become a competitor for the top spot until 2008 where Touma finished 3rd in best male character. Ever since then the Index series has been in the top 5 for multiple categories. The first anime season began October 2008, so there is agreement between when the animation started airing and the surge in popularity. Mikoto haters will be pleased to hear Japan has chronic shit taste.

Kamachi is working the climax of an arc set in the UK. His afterword in one of the volumes mentions how different one main character is acting now compared to Curtana. He even asks readers to contrast the differences in character behavior as it foreshadows where Kamachi is going next. This character did not appear in the animated Curtana arc save for 5 seconds of screen time in a group of others with no lines. This should make it abundantly clear how bad season 3 is. The LNs are worth your time.
