One hell of a thigh gap. Take a look at muscle anatomy to understand why and where certain curves appear, try to connect them as to make sense of how these forms come about. It's much more effective than adding details like the ribs and the belly randomly, and you learn a bit more in the process.

My advice is just draw them it's the only way you can improve by drawing the things you are bad at drawing.

 No.887778

> I just dont know how to draw individual body parts outside the head.

Draw naked characters first till you get a good feel of proportions. It will also help you to learn about muscle anatomy, even if it's in a simplified drawing style, it helps a lot when you want to make your characters look healthy or fit.

That's actually a really good thing. I'm just a series of bad habits and memorized strokes which produces consistency and utterly fails to work with happy accidents, causing disruptive inadequacies and abuse of formula. It's a much better habit to start from scratch and re-learning each time than erasing your way to "almost right but not quite".

>>888863

Probably because you're not getting any fun or satisfaction out of developing the habit. It doesn't hurt to humour yourself or try something stupid regularly instead. That, or coming to the realization that the self-destructive binging you do isn't worth your time.

>I guess I was so focused on getting better that I forgot why I wanted to draw in the first place

I do it because I want to draw cute anime girls. That's it from there you can come up with any reason like mine is giving girls who had bad ends good ends because no 2D girl ever deserves a true bad end. The main thing is remembering at the end of the day we are her to draw what we love.

For example, if you use the word "gift", it's up to anons to come with a drawing correlated to it. They can come up with concepts ranging from innocent or to lewd ones. It's a nice way to test drawing skills and creativity.

A lot of what makes 2D 2D is in the shading and drawing the heads and faces. Everything else is pretty much 3D anatomy. I'll agree it's not good to get stuck drawing flabby 3DPD hags and hairy men which unfortunately seems to be much of what the western art scene seems to push for learning material but learning how to draw humans properly is what separates those deviantart "anime style" "artists" from the tumblr "anime style" "artists".

The value to learning the fundamentals is that all of them can combine into an ability to better draw cute girls. Anatomy so the cute girls have proportionate limbs and features that look natural. Perspective so you can draw your cute girls in dynamic and fun poses. Life and landscape drawing so you can better draw your cute girls in neat places interacting with fun objects. Even drawing really detailed object studies can help you to build up the muscle and the feel for art so you can more quickly, efficiently, and effectively draw cute girls. Practicing style is nice and fun, but don't neglect what value the fundamentals can have for your cute girls.

There's a difference between learning full anatomy and simplified variations of it. If you're not going for ultra realistic, you may end up simplifying anyways and not using most of the shit you learned, specially if you're going for a cartoony style. That's what I meant by depending of the style.

Of course, it's better to know the fundamentals and then take your own style so you do it out of preference and not limitations. But if you have a concrete idea of what you're going for, you may as well learn the fundamentals necessary for that and see how it goes.

 No.893349

>>892713

Anime girls are basically just realistic humans with oversized, stylized heads. Use realistic references for their bodies and then try to imitate the anime style when drawing their heads. You can still use a lot of the same 3D construction techniques for their heads as you would for realistic art, but simply adjust the proportions and exaggerate features as required.

I fully believe that you can learn to draw very good looking anime girls using only anime-style art as references, but it'll probably be easier if you borrow some techniques from more realistic tutorials.

>>892658

Working with perspective and foreshortening the human body is very difficult at any level. Top-down shots like that are particularly hard due to off-canvas perspective. To get a better grasp on these types of compositions, try some character rotations/body part rotations for a better idea of how certain things look from different angles. It doesn't have to be detailed, just simplify things enough so that it makes sense, and add to it as you go along. 3D space in a flat plane will always be hard to grasp, and it will never be perfect, even with perspective lines. Just make it look convincing then exaggerate for extra depth, if that makes any sense.

That's not a bad attempt though, I find that the legs and feet tripped you a little since you couldn't figure out where or how to plant them.

>>892713

The idea is making the proportions convincing. You can draw cute anime girls as you learn, and studying real life as you go along helps immensely. I'd separate the head for anime, while keeping body studies relatively realistic.

>style

A style is usually something developed with an idea of function in mind. Naturally, any style you develop will have some inspiration from another, but it's better to understand what you like drawing, and how you like drawing it. My illustrative style for instance is purely designed around abusing my short strokes and quick jabs, resulting in something relatively messy, random, and cloudy. If anything, a style is usually developed out of productive laziness and increasing efficiency over what you already know how to do/like doing, so if you haven't developed any decent fundamentals, a style is usually a detriment to your growth, especially if you don't understand the thought process behind it and are only looking to mimic it in appearance. Personally I think the only thing that matters is that you learn something with every drawing and attempt to fix it on the next until it's satisfactory. You don't have to learn everything at once right away, the thing about drawing is that it just naturally builds upon anything you find that you should change or fix. Just have fun with it, don't bother trying to impress others, and consult someone or a resource if something troubles you. Try their method, and if it works, it works. If it doesn't, try another technique.

The real despair isn't your inability to draw or progress artistically, but rather the idea that you don't find drawing fun or fulfilling in the first place. It's thankless work that demands a lot of time after all.

The only advice I can give you, is that if you want to squeeze something out of those courses, you have to be a fucking bother to the teacher, if you see the fucker is somewhat capable, ask him about everything you don't get, try to get ahead and finish early so you ask him extra shit that he isn't planning to teach, If he's a proper teacher, he'll be glad to teach you but if you got a half-assed one, you're fucked. Having too much freedom kills my productivity. It doesn't matter what I draw, it doesn't matter when I draw, it doesn't matter how much I draw, it doesn't even matter if I draw at all. Have you ever finished one? If so, have you shared them? Maybe you get the feeling of isolation because you haven't shared them and gotten feedback from it. I don't know about you but I like when people look at what I draw and I get the reaction I expect from them (either joy or rage depending if I'm trolling or not).

If you want a collab work, I guess you could pitch the idea first and see how it goes.

I had a non-weeb webcomic once, was kind of fun I guess, but lost interest because it felt pointless. Surprisingly someone PM'd me a fanart even though the comic didn't really receive any comments.

I've finished some software projects and posted them online. Feels like running around your house, reaching the point where you left, and then falling into a great mental low because you realize after days/weeks/months of working on it there was nothing and nobody at the finishing line.

I used to post drawings online, but after hearing the same empty "nice"s from random strangers a thousand times, it too begins to feel meaningless.

It's much more satisfying and motivating to do things for/with other people, but like a genuine imageboard user I don't have any friends so I have to rely on drawthread requests and whatever fun events people come up with.

The arm lifting the spices, the arm and forearm should have the same length. It looks like it's bending backwards. A good way to know if your pose is unnatural is to try to use your own body as reference, if your body aches while trying to get to that pose it means is uncomfortable.

Seems you didn't focus on a single light source so the shading looks inconsistent. On the hair it looks like the light is coming from above but on the clothes is from the front. If you decide the light is coming from above-right for example, try to stick to it and shade taking that into account.

Also, if possible practice on paper or get a cheap tablet. It's easier to make textures with shades and lights if you can control the pressure of the pen/pencil. It really makes a difference when you want to make your drawings more detailed.

There's also the cloth folds and stuff like that but I think another anon can also give advice on that.

Of course not. My point was that while mannequins are useful for learning proportions, but you can draw 60 million mannequins and your proportions will still be fucked if you have 0 experience translating that exercise to actual humans.

That's why you should never grind one of these meme exercises for days while neglecting to practice the thing you're doing it for.

Just do some drawing excercises. Like a a girl watering her plants, or a dog in his dog house, a loli climbing a tree, a catgirl yawning or a dude escaping from the bathroom's window to not pay the bill.

Just think of something random to draw and draw it, don't think that much and doodle whatever. give it the amount of detail you wish or just leave it as a fast sketch, that's up to you.

The quantity and quality matters not, what matters is that you're learning something with each drawing. Besides, plateaus aren't always a bad thing, it means your taste has improved and you're seeing areas where you can improve in your work.

>>909888

Form and silhouette I've found to be the best approach before details like muscles and formal anatomy. Try some 30 - 60 second poses for about half an hour, just get the best out of the pose and ideally you'll start noticing patterns in your construction and proportions. Just make sure that it looks as "right" as possible so to speak.

Also try to keep it traditional for now. Digital is bad for your health and for your habits.

>>910222

This is decent advice. I think sometimes people get too caught up in constantly producing higher quality work that they forget to have fun in the process of making something.

The problem is I can't do any of those.

If I could draw anything I would, but I can't draw shit, and what little I can draw I can't draw well, so I fall in this vicious cycle and end up not learning.

>>910226

>matters is that you're learning something with each drawing

It doesn't really feel like I'm learning anything though, it's like my brain just shut down and refuses to learn anything else.

I tried a bunch of shit, but nothing really works, either I just can't draw or I'm retarded, possibly both.

try to draw simple shit then, you don't need to be great, if you realize your drawing is shit it means you know where's you're wrong, just work on correcting what you think looks wrong and you will slowly progress. Nobody stops being shit at anything without putting effort into improving.

If you can't draw the girl watering the plant, how about you start with the plant or the watering can? If you can't do complicated things, just do simple ones and once you master them, try to slowly go for harder stuff. Baby steps anon, baby steps.

I think the nose is more or less fine, but the eye is detracting from the nose because it appears to be at three different angles (entire eye structure, pupil, and pupil reflection). I'm no artist, but it seems like your issue is with the angles more than the proportions. Try drawing "regular sized" eyes or smug eyes or just slightly overexpressive eyes instead of anime eyes while working on the angle maybe? The body tilt at 35-45 degrees looks nice, but then from about the chin up it feels like you swapped to a "flat" 0 degree angle on the face whereas either a 15-65 degree angle or a negative angle on the head would work better. If the head was slightly facing more towards me, the eye wouldn't stand out as much I think. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not, just trying to put what my brain is processing into words.

Loomis is for drawing realistic characters. Early on you should only really touch on the basics of it and move on. Coming back later after you have already developed a style. Otherwise your stuff will have a very strong Loomis influence and will look very Westernized in my experience.

Anon your bodies look A+ same with the hair. Honestly the face is fine it is the nose that is throwing the whole thing off. The shadow is coming from the wrong side also use shadows to make the nose not actually drawing it unless you are doing 80's and earlier.
