Today I watched this one.

Saw it once on /a/ and scheduled it for watching in March 2018 but never had the time until today.

I could not participate in the discussion back then so maybe there is interest again.

I remember one thing from last time though:

>that feel when you can actually smell the summer rain

I also remember that screencap from the scene in the forest.

I think it is a solid show.

What suprised me most was how much emotion they can deliver with so few dialog.

Most of the time I felt like tachibana was just making this clueless expression.

Also the sceneries and rain and how it was interlinked at the end.

It was also very beautiful to see the family-like atmosphere they had at her workplace.

I wonder what made her fall for this underachiever. Did she saw some kind of antidepressant in him?

What I missed:

>backstory of female lead

>was she always like this or only after her injury?

>what about her father? daddy issues?

>backstory of the other characters who work with her

>especially the rowdy type with blonde hair

>backstory of main lead son and wife

>backstory of main lead best friend guy

So, will the show get a 2nd season / OVA finale or should I just read the manga?

What I also wonder is if they will let the romance happen or if it is just one of those life lessons where the old guy teaches the young girl that her friends and hobbies are precious and that life is beautiful so go back to beeing a runner instead of wasting your time with me. They were kind of adorable.

And I wonder if the blonde girl from the Diner and the guy from Tachibana's class will end up together as well.

In any case, thank you for making me aware of this show back in the day. I quite enjoyed it.

 No.892212

I highly recommend the manga, a good number of volumes have been translated.

However, it's been picked up by a localisation company as "After the rain", and since then the fan translations by Roselia have stopped.

Here's hoping that someone else picks it up.

Aaaaaaah

Anons, thank you for your replies. Really did not expect to see any replies when I am that late to the show. It means much to me.

>>892212

I already looked for the manga chapters to pirate on nyaa but could not find anything. I will definitely read the manga.

>>892228

I think the story will end with old man and her not becoming a couple because muh society will never allow. Then old man makes it into lecturing her to jus b herself and find back to her friends again and do track racing again while he finds back to his writing and fixes his marriage again.

But at least blonde diner girl and the clumsy guy should get together

>>892234

she is pure-hearted, stunningly beautiful and definetly my type

tall reserved long-black-haired smart girl with golden heart

but I already have a waifu for laifu

I really hoped for tachibana and old man to find to each other.

it would have been beautiful.

I wished to find out more about tachibana's background.

Other than that, the visuals of the show were gorgeous. Landscapes, backgrounds, even the cgi cars were not as ugly as in other shows. They really put lots of effort into it

>Ameagari thread

Fuck yeah. This was my AOTY. I loved it to pieces. It was really well directed and Tachibana was the cutest thing ever.

The anime and manga cover the same stuff, just the manga has a lot more interactions between the manager and Tachibana. They both finished at about the same time, and a lot of people were really upset that they didn't end up getting together. I believe the mangaka even got abuse and such about this. This is all nonsense since those people are missing the point that their relationship is not a romantic one. They are both people who have been hurt, have lost sight of their dreams, and have found each other in their pain. They provide each other support and a new lease on life. It would have been easy for manager to accept the feelings of a beautiful high school girl, but such a relationship would not have been healthy for either of them. They would have still been unhappy. The anime has a nice end in this, that they will both go achieve their dreams and then they can find each other again.

>>892234

Very much so.

 No.892552

What I gathered from looking at the raws of the final chapter:

Tachibana goes back to running track and field, she and the manager does not end up together.

thank you for posting

when I saw the screenshots I already knew I would love it. so glad I saw it here back then.

yeah that is pretty much the moral lesson I described.

you worded my thoughts very well. She saw an antidepressant in him and he saw one in her.

both get out of their lows and then get back to their passions.

that is the moral of the story. 2 people who are at their respective lows and find back on their feet thanks to each other.

however I doubt you can pursue a professional career in sports once you get crippled and spend 2 years in rehab

I think this might have been the thing that crushed her. she probably wanted to be an olympic runner and then has to throw it all away in a blink of an eye. This is why I wondered if she was always like that (gloomy, very calm). I mean, she confessed her feelings to the manager straightforward without any hesitation. Twice even.

so she does not seem to be the standard shy teenager

All in all the manager is morally always 100% correct.

Also his life lessons to her were always good advice.

But he cannot deny that he likes her very much.

so why not tell society to fuck themselves. love is love and if it is illegal, then just wait until she is legally adult.

>>892552

>Do we at least get the wedding of blonde diner girl and spiky hair classmate of tachibana who also works at the diner?

The ending is even worse for the other romances, at least the manager and Tachibana admit they love each other so you have some closure. Spiky hair friend-zones blonde girl, stops his job and become more jaded and the other romance subplot between the chef and his stepsister is never mentioned again.

Indeed, Ame Agari was my AOTY as well.

Highly under-appreciated, an overlooked gem that left a huge mark on me. I'll remember this one for all time thanks in no small part to finding Tenchou as the most relatable and easily self-insertable male character in recent memory (Although I am some time off from being at his age in life, I know full well those are the feelings that await.)

Also an amazing show to watch for anyone feeling the nostalgia of those dreamy, hot Summer, Japanese urban landscapes; The atmosphere in this was so vivid it took me back to my trip to Nihon.

The most remarkable thing about this entire fucking show was that it broke my heart without me even realizing it until it was far too late.

Here's hoping an anon or two more will pick it up.

Long black hair and reserved personality, just like Tachibana.

a) Tachibana beeing so blunt

b) the rain

I wonder what the rain stands for.

Tencho also told her once that she always appears out of nowhere on a rainy day.

I wonder if the rain is a symbol for her unhappiness.

Then about her beeing so blunt.

I mean, she confessed straightforward to him without even squinting or any hint of nervosity. Twice even.

I was very surprised by this and thought the series would take 12 episodes for them to even talk to each other about it.

I also really enjoyed this show when it aired, and was one of the few anons who kept up posting in the designated thread. I used to have a video cut of the part where the manager calls Tachibana after she left the douchebag on the date, and she does that little foot tap jump thing. SO heartwarming and adorable. Real doki doki material in this anime.

For the OP, there's also a live action movie that's not bad at all. They cover what the anime covers and do it in a well presented way. Though they don't cover the other subplots with the hairdresser and baka kid.

I was on a plane to Japan and there is a severe lack of anime on those planes. So I settled for Japanese movies. Between After the Rain and Tornado Girl, After the Rain is a far superior movie to watch for an anime loving hito like myself. It didn't give me all the same feels that Tachibana gave me, but it captured enough and had good execution so it did tug at my heartstrings. The drama with her friend and them drifting apart felt a little bit better in the live action, probably because in the anime the friend felt a little more distance which made her freak out feel a little weird. But it's understandable since we get Tachibana post incident for most of the show and so she avoids track team people.

Live action anime movies don't always suck, the Rurouni Kenshin movies for example are done well enough that despite not seeing the anime in years I could tell who the characters were in the movies without difficulty. Anyway, after the rain was high up in my list of favorites the season it aired. Not to mention it's got an art style I don't think we see enough of now a day.

The art style reminds me of girl-targeted manga I used to borrow from one of my friends.
