Trying to make a blend of JoJo and Dio, giving him such an obviously unbeatable power from the start you're forced to nerf him to shit by the end of the first arc and still having him be the most powerful JoJo by far will do that to you. So will choosing that JoJo+Dio means an emotionally detached twat who's so much cooler headed than anyone else he's obviously a better strategist even though he's a nobody in the business. It's not his fault, really, it's Araki's for starting part 5 so fucking awfully even his best attempt at backpedaling ends up with the literal power of "nuh huh, I win". Giorno is just a cheap motherfucker through and through, and though Araki tries his best to give him growth (most notably in the infamous 5-page oraora), he just started from such a impossibly shitty place the only way to make Vento Aureo even remotely palatable was to make Bruno the protagonist in every conceivable way.

Ive had a thought about all the names being changed. I feel like its ether everyone has a limited idea what "copyright" means or I underestimate the music industry.

I've always been under the impression you can name drop real life things in stories. I've read so many books that have named real life bands or products. It's so common place that I don't understand how it effects jojo this way. Naming something is not the same as them reading off the lyrics or singing the songs so why would it be changed at all. Like with Crazy Diamond. How is that changed but a tv show can have a character say "Shine on you crazy diamond." with no effect.

I refuse to watch the dubs but I find it funny to think of a dub only watcher not knowing any of the real names.

tl;dr Why do they change the names when you're allowed to name real life bands in TV shows and books

 No.903633

>>903545

Mentioning a band as themselves is acknowledging them. Naming a fictional entity after a band is creating intellectual property and, as far as the law is concerned, implying you have a right to their name. Whether that's fair or unfair is a matter left up to the judge, but the point is that it's definitely reason enough to get a lawsuit going.

This can fly in the manga because in Japan, every gaijin trying to make a copyright claim would just be showed the door. But in publishing in the west, copyright holders would be able to challenge it in court. Doesn't mean they necessarily would do it, but it's not worth the hassle to find out. Hence, Worse Company.

 No.903657

>>903633

Why does anime have fake name companies like Goodle and NotMcDonalds when portraying them as their real life counterparts? It's like they aren't allowed to acknowledge that those companies (after the real life versions, not an anime original intellectual property) exist in their anime.

>>903657

That's a good question, though not limited to anime. How many times have you seen "BEER" brand beer in a show or film? Or any inane not-google search engine? Same thing.

From what I know of copyright disputes, the main point of scrutiny in any competent court is whether the defendant is profiting off a brand name in such a way that they compete on the same field. So an anime episode mentioning taco bell could not reasonably be construed as piggybacking off the diarrhea factory to sell their own enchiladas, and such a case should by all rights be dismissed. Should, because nothing's ever certain in a trial and judges are much pettier and stupider than they should be.

The fact is that a trial, even if you have 100% chance to win it, is tiresome, lengthy, and expensive, especially against a big corporation that can afford to claim the most ridiculous shit and retrial it until the bitter end, so when you're in the entertainment industry and are already praying to be in the 10% most successful, you don't fucking risk it.

And then there's the matter of sponsorship and licensing, which I don't know much about, but it has become standard practice for brands to either pay or get paid for a favorable mention in media. So even if you technically didn't infringe copyright, a company can still sue you for unauthorized mention. That seems to me to be much more bullshit than the copyright situation since it's purely defending corporate maneuvers instead of intellectual property (and again, big companies have a ridiculous advantage in a trial since they can be as ludicrous as they want and it will hurt their opponent more), but as I said I'm not too versed in that subject.

That's really retarded though, as band names are just completely normal words.

I understand it with names like McDonald's or Google as they're "fabricated" names, but stuff like crazy diamond?

If I see some weird weird diamond am I not allowed to call it crazy?

Kraftwerk literally translates to "power plant". Guess we have to rename real life power plants in Germany now.

Big companies try to copyright everyday words so no one can use them. Basically if you have money you can sue everybody and they might lose rights to their own name. Lawyers will do anything for the money and they are payed by hour.

I think Giorno, or at least his stand, can be compared more to Part 8 Josuke, both have bullshit stands that got nerfed, in the beginning Soft and Wet could take one attribute out of ti's target, like the friction on the floor or the entire fucking water out of a human and now it's just bubbles that can carry stuff. It's what happens when your stand is so abstract like creating life out of anything or substantiating an attribute, can work for one off villains, but not protagonists. Good protagonist stands have been Part 4 Josuke and Part 6 Jolyne, as in they were simple enough(restore an object, and create string), but they were versatile enough without entering into bullshit territories all that much. Jotaro's stand was basic, and while it did pull some bullshit like Star Finger or Time Stop, it was mostly a fast and strong stand, but it was also the first time stands were introduced so he gets a pass. Johnny started in the same category as Jotaro, a basic projectile stand, but it did evolve and get closer to something more versatile.

You can excuse a lot of the silly stuff in the first two parts as the series' growing pains, but by the time Stardust Crusaders rolled around, it was pretty obviously a hit series and going to be continuing for as long as he wrote it. Really it just seems a case of making the hero's powers extremely vague so they can fit any situation and drive the plot, rather than taking the plot (which I assume he has a rough outline for at least) and trying to bend the character to fit it.

If your car's computer suddenly causes it to accelerate into a wall, it had some kind of fault; it wasn't a "bad car". You'd be called an idiot if you said your fucking car was "evil" because it wasn't working properly. People are no different. Why would they be? If Dio is a megalomaniac who gets off by causing pain, he's fucked in the head; this is not typical human behavior and actually results in harm to himself as well as others. You DO realize you're taking what was originally a discussion about the idiotic black-and-white, hero-versus-villain shounen cliche existed in early JoJo and attempting to claim that that's how real people are, right? The twist is that you have to be unconscious when you use it, because while the body teleports instantly, the mind experiences an "eternity" of transit time, enough to drive the person completely insane in that fraction of a second. It's mentioned that mobsters uses portals with no "destination" set to dispose of bodies, and one time some complete monster shoved a live person into one in the same fashion. The guy's defense at his trial was that because the person was warped off to "nowhere", they couldn't prove he was actually dead. Of course, this implied that the person was still ALIVE, stuck in the void for an eternity multiplied by an eternity. Needless to say, he got the death penalty...

It leads to harm to others. It lets him live well beyond the lifespan of a normal person and experience pleasures others can't even imagine. To say he's harming himself is subjective at best. If harming others means you're insane, then, again, nobody should be in jail. They should all be not guilty by reason of insanity. Hell, real life criminals harm themselves much more than Dio, since they don't get superpowers out of it.

>>906520

>My point was that there is no such thing as an evil person, only evil actions

An evil person is a person who performs many evil actions. Why don't you just take the next step and say there aren't evil actions? Because we agree that the things Dio does are bad. But doing bad things does not just mean you're crazy. There's a difference between not caring about other people and having hallucinations or something. Your logic just means we should never be angry or upset at anybody for any actions. Anyone who commits a bad action that deliberately hurts others is just ill.

 No.906869

>>906860

>They should all be not guilty by reason of insanity

It's already been explained why this isn't true. Frankly, this has all completely broken down into just a disagreement about the fucking semantics of the word "insane". You're confusing the typical definition with the legal one, and they are not the same. Legal insanity means "incapable of telling the difference between right and wrong", as in somehow not knowing that murder is a bad thing. It's like a very young child that steps on a bug, and when asked why the would do that can only answer with a shrug, except it's an adult with human beings. Very few people are actually like that; almost all murderers are of the "know damn well that murder is wrong, but did it anyway because [reasons]" variety.

Thing is, most people don't commit murder, even if they have a good reason to. There's a threshold in their mind that takes a lot to breach before they will kill someone, and not just because of the legal consequences. That is normal. So I suppose it would be more correct to say that Dio is "abnormal" in his violent actions, which (again) were not all just a means to an end. But, again, that is still just arguing semantics.

Everything else is you just strawmanning my argument. I never claimed any of those things. I only said that Dio's mind isn't like normal people's minds, which fits a loose definition of "insane"; and that was just saying that he's no different from some of the other JoJo villains in being that way. Nothing else! If you want to extend that to reality, or draw other implications on whether that makes him responsible or his actions defensible or that he's ill or whatever the hell else, that's completely on YOU. Don't fucking put words in my mouth.

I find it a bit hard to believe that someone with imagination enough to come up with something like JoJo never managed to think up the craziest, most off-the-wall fetishes possible involving his characters. There's a difference between not liking something and denying that it's never crossed your mind even once. Most likely, there is an element of acting involved here, where his reaction would reasonably be a shrug "so what?" but he feels the need to act disgusted so he isn't interpreted as being supportive of it. After all, Japan is really quite homophobic, so it could torpedo his career if he doesn't have the "correct" reaction to seeing fag comics.

>not knowing the difference between morals and virtue

Morals is a scale that goes from good to evil, and virtue is an other scale that goes from good to bad. As you can see the first one is the kind of thing that priests, philosophers and other bookworms endlessly discuss, and the second one deals with the painful realities of everyday life. If a car's computer suddenly causes it to accelerate into a wall, then it had some kind of a fault, therefore it's a bad car. It's on the second scale, the same way a bad apple is bad. Bookworms can argue if the car and the apple are evil or not. It should be rather obvious now that there are "two goods", and something can be good (in a moral way) and bad (from the perspective of virtue) at the same time. Or the other way around, it can be good but evil. Now, morals are a lot more abstract and subjective, but virtue is something every sane and healthy man can grasp instinctively.

This would seem to lean more toward Dio not being sane, however. Whether it's good or evil to kick dogs can be debatable, but "sane" people can recognize it's not virtuous behavior because it's naturally repulsive.

>>908158

It points toward Dio being a psychopath, so he is indeed mentally defective. If depends on your morals if that makes him evil or not, but yes, he is a bad person, because kicking dogs simply for "fun" is not helpful to anyone in any way.

It helps my sanity thinking that King Crimson is just like the Anubis Sword or Cheap Trick, a Stand that is sentient and Doppio is the original man who can use Epitaph himself. Doppio, a rather model man, gets corrupted by the Stand that ends up controlling him and making him do all that weird shit. When Doppio's soul dies, KC is the one controlling the body (since it's something it can do, as he did so with Trish-in-Mista's-body).

Also it's not really time stop, it's more like moving really fast and casting mass Alzheimer on those around him while also being able to foresee the future.

>koichi practically had 4 stands

Not even remotely the same thing. It just evolved to have a different ability, and he could never use the old abilities after that point. It wasn't switching back and forth all the time.

>its not like king crimson is the most powerful stand

It's not even all that powerful anyway! The point is that when it's combined with Epitaph to be able to see the future, it's COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE. Only the power of a stand that is so fucking hax that its official stats are literally all infinity signs was able to beat it.

>>908366

>Doppio, a rather model man, gets corrupted by the Stand that ends up controlling him

I like this explanation. It's still complete bullshit, but at least it makes things internally consistent within the rules of JoJo. Being able to tell the future is something already established in universe, after all. Another way to think of it is that Diavolo/Doppio is kinda like an EXTREMELY COMPETENT Oingo/Boingo combo; the wuss can predict the future and nothing else, and the big guy does all the punching.

 No.908445

it's really epitaph that makes KC bullshit, if Diavolo didn't have it, he'd be really susceptible to ambushes and etc etc.

Does it really matter? In JoJo there are only two levels of strength for a Stand: "can punch a hole in someone" and "can't punch a hole in someone". Unless they're directly combating each other in fisticuffs, the relative difference in strength between two Stands isn't important.

It comes with making a protagonist stand too vague and undefined.

Bruno's fucking cool in action. Physically he's no pushover and his stand has a simple, understandable, well defined ruleset. Sticky Fingers looks, sounds and animates incredibly well.

Jotaro had Doomguy rage levels at times, and his Stand was just "No fancy tricks, just ora ora" which was likable.

Giorno is the embodiment of all those cop "smartest guy in the room" shows with the added bonus of not being smug or even around all that much, until the actual characters do everything and a canned finish needs to be popped. Gold Experience's ability is too vague and its power is also too vague, and Requiem is the bullshitest canned finish of any bullshit canned finish.

 No.908691

It's weird, it seems as though it's coming to the close of part five but it feels like hardly anything has happened.

Giorno is still an outsider as far as everyone but Bruno and Mista is concerned, and as it stands Bruno and Mista are the only two characters I find myself caring about mainly as they're the only ones that have done anything.

Giorno himself falls flat as an interesting character as he has a habit of sitting there and letting himself get hit before retaliating and then completely dominating because he has control over life and he just needs one punch to win.

Everyone else has had near zero developments aside from the segues into their backstories, which tell us near nothing about the characters as they are today anyway.

Overall I'm disappointed with part 5 thus far.

The World was simple but perfect, Bites the Dust was a little iffier, but still worked great for the arc. Then you have this hot mess that isn't even used to good effect. The weird thing about KC compared to The World is that it's possible to think about The World just moving faster than light speed, so: faster than time itself, therefore compared to it time is standing still. It works fine that way. This means that nobody who isn't right there and/or had been affected by what The World does (like getting punched or those restaurant patrons that got knocked over) would even notice that anything had happened. Its area of effect is just what it affects when it's moving at super-speed.

But KC is literally SKIPPING OVER portions of time, for everyone but Diavolo. That's how it works. So this means its area of effect must encompass basically everything. Despite being outside KC's "range", Giorno and everyone else outside experienced the same effect. It can't just be a small area, because then there'd be bizarre (heh) bubbles of time/space left behind ten seconds out of step with the rest of reality. So literally every time KC uses the time-erase power, EVERY PERSON ON THE PLANET must be experiencing that same skip. Which is just absurd.

>Was he accidentally brought back to life as a sort of zombie by Gold Experience?

Something like that. But more metaphysical as in he's perfectly "alive", but just doesn't have a soul anymore. And as we all know, souls are what feel pain, apparently...

 No.909953

 No.909962

>>909951

Nah he still has a soul, considering he can still use his Stand(the manifestation of ones soul), got his soul switched in another body during Silver Chariot Requiem, and when that body died he became a ghost again to say goodbye to GioGio.

I think it's more that GE fixed his body ,but didn't start the "ignition" to put his body in motion, so his blood isn't circulating, maybe his neurons aren't working, his heart isn't working, nor are his lungs, it's just a bag of flesh that slowly decomposes, because no anti-biotic to fights the bacteria that slowly eats it, and Bucerrati's soul is possessing this lump of flesh making him into some sort of zombie.

 No.909970

>>909962

>became a ghost

Yeah, but that's my point. He became a ghost ALREADY right before Giorno fixed his body, and there was no indication that said ghost got sucked back in there. It gives the distinct impression that he was meant to be dead for real, and then the next chapter Araki realized "Oh shit, there's no way the other guys are gonna follow Giorno..." and then just had him wake up like nothing happened.

Saying that a soul can animate a body even if the entire body is biologically dead is just... silly. I mean, maybe you'd have something if it was specifically shown that he was kinda using his Stand to "pull the strings" of his body to make it move, but that's not the case. Forget KC; this is the REAL ass-pull "lol it just works" part of this arc.

There are real life cases where people were declared dead by the doctors(no pulse or brain activity), but after several minutes or even hours they come back to life. You could say that it is a bizarre situation in this adventure.

Again during Silver Chariot Requiem his spirit enters another body, and only after that body is destroyed, does he rise to heaven to say goodbye to GioGio.

It's just a precautionary thing. And since nobody actually pays for music anymore musicians might actually sue so they don't have to do another tour in their late 70s.

Also it's WHITE ALBUM. I mention it because the whole point of that album was the Beatles released a plain album cover knowing they were so big that they could make it famous. It's ironic that they're worried about an album name that technically isn't even the album name.

 No.910117

>>909986

>There are real life cases where people were declared dead by the doctors(no pulse or brain activity), but after several minutes they come back to life

Not on their own, they don't. And no pulse sure, but no brain activity means brain death and NOBODY comes back from that because it's biologically impossible. You know how, when you remove a car's battery, it resets all your radio stations? It's kinda like that with a brain. The mind isn't in the neurons, but the bioelectric field between them; shut off all brain activity and it means wiping the mind clean. Even if it were possible to somehow restart the brain, there wouldn't be a person in there anymore.

Also, they were never "dead". Because souls don't actually exist, people don't die at any set moment in time. Death is a process. If you interrupt the process before any significant decomposition of tissues takes place, the person will be okay. Interrupt it a little later on, and they end up severely mentally retarded because there's been a little bit of decomposition. Get there too late, and they're a vegetable, but still "alive" by the barest definition. This is why declaring death requires two highly trained and educated experts to independently verify it's happened.

>or even hours

Completely impossible. Never happened. Decomposition of brain tissue begins to happen after few minutes without oxygen. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

https://kgov.com/brain-dead-patients-who-have-recovered

>souls don't actually exist

I don't want to have a discussion on whether souls exist or not(personally I believe they do), but we are talking about GioGio as well, where they do exist. If there are cases where a person had no brain activity for a few minutes(while Buceratii had no brain activity for a minute at most), got special help from medicine, machines, doctors(in his case a Stand power) and recovered, then sure I can believe what happened, in the context of that world. Now you will complain that he became a zombie, while all these people didn't.

Jotaro stopped and re-started his own god damn heart then brought his dead grandpa back to life, people are fighting with invisible punch ghosts, suspend your disbelief a little.

>Because souls don't actually exist

It doesn't matter if they really exist or not in real life, they exist in JoJo. we've seen ghosts in almost every part. A ghost is who told the part 4 gang their is a killer in their town. We saw everyone who died in Part 3's ghost, We just saw Bruno's ghost and we see Gyro's ghost in part 7

But the question we're trying to answer is: what exactly is his state of being? It's not as simple as just "a zombie" because zombies are reanimated souless (and largely mindless) corpses, but Bucciarati still has his soul and is otherwise perfectly okay aside from his body being abnormal. It seems less like he's actually altering time and more like he's just altering people's perception of it, kinda like that fujo-bait character in Code Geass.

So, that last chapter, eh? I hope he's not really dead.

I still say Giorno is more evil then Jolyne but her whole part did take place in jail

maybe I just really don't like Giorno

>Jolyne: thinks she killed a man, first instinct is to get rid of the body to not go to jail

Her first instinct is to call the police, it's her boyfriend who tells her to hide the body. Otherwise you're right, there's no question Johnny is a born murderer.

Why does this episode look like that? It's been much better before.

Not a fan of the third of the new OP being reused footage.

They might update it, but I felt the same way about much of it being scenes instead of just the characters performing various POSE. Seemed very different from what we're used to in OPs. Also, I don't understand them spoiling that Trish has a stand, probably 10 episodes before we're even going to see it. What was the point?

This. They even have an excuse for skipping parts of the OP and adding new ones as they progress

I thought that was obvious after the whole train thing.

I don't like this new OP. It's not very visually appealing, and the song is pretty lackluster. Hopefully the final version with KING CRIMSON skip and possibly Requiem stuff will be better.

Maybe the OP will grow on me. you guys are talking about Trish but they show Gio fucking stabbing himself with the arrow!

At least we get to see Doppio

Yeah, I'm very surprised they showed Giorno stabbing himself with the arrow. That's final 2 episodes shit. Way too early to show that now. Anyways, I DID like the new ED, and Doppio in the OP is nice. Can't wait to see him in action.

Man the new OP and ED are weak.

Also is its just me or does Scarlet Sovereign look kinda happy in this shot?

 No.913075

>>912919

There's a big difference between thinking she could have a Stand and knowing for sure, as well as what it looks like. As the other guy said, there was no reason to skip it and then add it in later. Maybe do kinda like what they did with Koichi in CNBT where at first instead of a Stand it's just an empty space, so we're left thinking "okay, she's gonna have a Stand, but what's it going to look like?" which builds up anticipation. Now every animeonly is going to be left blue-balled every episode when it DOESN'T show up, which is less anticipation and more frustration.

>>913014

It occurs to me that the final boss Stand is a King, while in the last part it was a Queen, which really means that the big boss for Stardust Crusaders should have been Hol Horse because his Stand is the Emperor.

 No.913087

I just realized, the new ED is called "Modern Crusaders", with the lyrics "Stand up, join us" and premiered literally a day after the NZ attack. That's some crazy timing, intentional or not.

You might be able to call it Crazy, Noisy, Bizarre Timing.
