Updates from Tsukushi on the status of the next chapter have been posted on his Twitter. Here's the shitty Google translation:

>Next chapter that I want you guys to read all at once will be twice longer than an usual one and posted in March. I'm sure it’s gonna be a good one but it’s kinda boring to write because almost all of the characters in the chapter is adult.

Speculation? I hope the double-length means that we will see the end of the flashback. If everyone is an adult like the tweet says though it leaves me confused though, because many of the characters in the flashback aren't quite adults.

Last time I heard anything about this was when people were losing their shit over the anime. So, is this just yet another work of fiction wherein the author just keeps on making more and more content for an undefined amount of time with no end in sight, and the quality/content starts suffering more and more as time drags on? I can't tell you how many novels or mangos fall into that trap, and the works that DO actually end after half a bajillion chapters usually have a mediocre or bad ending because the author ran out of ideas/got fucking tired of working on it. Serialization is cancer for creativity sometimes and too many authors don't cash in their chips when they're way in the lead.

So is MiA suffering from that on the primary source side? Is the creativity and intriguing plot developments still consistently engaging? Or has it started and/or gone the way of shit like Hero Academia, etc.?

Touche. No.

It's only 50 chapters in, the manga started in 2012, but it's on an irregular publishing schedule, largely because of the art.

>So is MiA suffering from that on the primary source side?

No.

>Is the creativity and intriguing plot developments still consistently engaging?

Yes.

>Or has it started and/or gone the way of shit like Hero Academia, etc.?

It's not even comparable to shounen capeshit, but I guess that shows where your taste in manga is.

You projected a lot and brought up a lot of complaints without even doing the barest of research. You're jumping to conclusions and making assumptions based on genres and series that have nothing to do with MiA.

 No.910110

>>910105

>But eventually if that's all you have going for you

Actually, I think most people approached MiA for the drawings. Or sense of mystery, I've heard it pretty often that someone first saw the map of the abyss and decided to pick it up.

That specific demographics you have in mind, is actually the Promised Neverland one. The two fanbases overlap, due to the human drama element: but MiA has also a lesser undercurrent of people into lovecraft themes, or sceneryporn.

 No.910112

COMPLETELY irredeemable.

>>910105

I got into it because someone told me there was an anime with a robot shota and everyone's obsessed with his dick and stayed because the music and art is literally the best I've ever seen. The dark stuff was just an unexpected bonus. I'd have kept watching it even if nothing bad ever happened, and it was nothing but cute adventures and narrowly escaping danger. I don't care for moeshit at all, but this is a story about the Abyss, and the anime does an incredible job of it.

>>910108

>it's on an irregular publishing schedule, largely because of the art

No, it's like that because the author is basically "retired" and isn't reliant on weekly publishing in order to make a paycheck. He can just draw at his own pace because nothing and nobody is controlling him.

 No.910114

>>910106

>Got that from reddit or tvtropes?

No, from my memory of people watching the show. They went into it thinking it was some comfy moeblob show based around dungeoneering and/or adventuring (based on the art and promo material alone) and weren't expecting the horror. For the secondaries, anyway.

>>910108

>You projected a lot and brought up a lot of complaints without even doing the barest of research.

I didn't project anything. I voiced a complaint with the modern anime/manga industry and asked if this series was yet another one that fell into the problem of that complaint.

>You're jumping to conclusions

Really? Where? Pray tell what conclusions I drew. You're making a ton of assumptions here and passing them as fact, while claiming I've made assumptions. Quote my conclusions please.

>It's not even comparable to shounen capeshit

I'm not comparing the content you idiot, I used that as an example of the problem I was talking about. Again, reading comprehension. How many series do you know of where the author had a great first few novels or the manga started off really strong, but then as time went on they started losing creativity and steam and started just pouring in tons of filler that did nothing but drag out something bland? It happens to lots of things. It even happened to Berzerk, how many people complained about the boat? The reason I brought up BnHA as an example is because there is literally a thread right on /a/, right now complaining about that exact problem. That being shounen capeshit is irrelevant, I could pick a couple works from any genre that do this. I never claimed MiA suffers from this, I explicitly asked IF it did. That's the point.

>without even doing the barest of research

I asked here because /a/ doesn't generally have super shit opinions and I can get told something straight. Unless I read all the chapters of MiA from where I left off, there's no way for me to find out if it suffers from the issue I'm describing unless people who have already read it can tell me whether they think that's true.

It handles things differently, i.e. Mitty's execution is much more emotional. I'd say it has a greater impact than Nanachi & Mitty's little elevator ride.

In the manga, you are aware of Nanachi's feelings when they nuke Mitty, but also much more removed and observe things with a cynical eye.

 No.910138

True, and it's also worth mentioning that the chapters are also somethimes "double length", with 30 or 40 pages compared to a typical manga's consistent 20. It's less like a weekly manga and more like a monthly one that takes half the months off. Looked at that way, it's not that dramatically slow. At least he doesn't take years'-long hiatuses like SOME mangaka we know...

>>910125

>Mitty's execution is much more emotional

The three times I've watched MiA represent three out of probably five times an anime has ever made me cry, just for that scene alone. The first time I couldn't even see through the tears. NOTHING has that effect on me. I didn't even realize how attached I'd grown to Nanachi until it had already happened. This is especially dramatic because my first impression of her was that she was going to be a pointless "mascot" character, there only to be cute; and I was irate that such a character had the nerve to butt into Reg and Riko's adorable duet in the ED. But no, she earned her place with them, so it never felt forced from then on.

I hope so, consistently engaging series are a breath of fresh air. Guess I'll need to dig up where I left off.

>>910138

>NOTHING has that effect on me

I don't think very often there are anime series that take the time to genuinely build up an emotional connection to a character on a deeper level. It's usually just by the books stuff that isn't particularly interesting and most shows fail to pull it off simply because they can't or don't spend the time to really develop the complexities people can relate to or care about. It's sad it doesn't happen more often, but I think that's just a consequence of making a show. You can find stuff like that a lot easier in novels and manga because more time and sophistication is spent to make characters like Nanachi. Offhand I think the last character that hit me in the feels was Hachiman, and that's because that anime was basically about nothing BUT 8man and the school drama stuff, so they had all the time in the world to develop those characters. I guess Flip Flappers did a good job with it too.

I don't know, and it drives me absolutely nuts. From what I can find, there is zero precedent for this sort of thing in reality. There's no such thing as a headdress (for maids or otherwise) that has storage pockets because it just doesn't make sense. Putting anything with weight in there will make the headdress heavy and wont to just slip and fall off the head. Besides that, you don't need pockets to store stuff on your head when there are other pockets elsewhere unless there are times when Marulk goes around wearing NOTHING BUT the headdress, but still needs to store maid/cleaning stuff or whatever.

I want to say that probably Tsukushi drew the headdress in such a way as to suggest ear-flaps (reminds me of Fletcher from the first FMA anime) but then decided they looked too plain and made them pockets because it's more like the delver style to have pockets everywhere. Basically they're just decorative.

>Okay, but by who? Why did they leave a whole fucking city full of high tech relics and eldritch creatures down there?

Calm your swollen, pubescent, little boy tits. We're still not even done with Veko's flashback yet. There's no reason that the gang has to descend out of the Sixth Layer immediately after leaving the village. There's presumably going to be a whole lot more stuff to explore in the immediate area, including the actual Golden City ruins or whatever it was.

Still kinda disappointed that any more exploration of the lower parts of the Fifth Layer was completely sidetracked by the Bestdad/Idofront Arc. We got a little bit with those murderbugs that got Vietnam'd, but not much more. I enjoy directed plot as much as anyone else, but kinda miss when it was just Reg and Riko taking in the cool sights and avoiding the things trying to kill them. It's turned from a story about the Abyss to a story of the people inside of it; it's weird how the lower they go the more shit they find, going from a single rural outpost to a powered mad scientist fortress to an entire self-contained city with a functioning economy. At this rate the Seventh Layer could just be them popping out on the other side of their planet into Abyss China.

>>910420

Unlikely. He's too young anyway, and I doubt Ozen has him on hormones or anything crazy like that. Would help if we had any actual idea what her motivation was for putting him in a dress, aside from she probably just finds it hilarious. Mother of fuck I wish I was still at that age.

 No.910454

>going from a single rural outpost to a powered mad scientist fortress to an entire self-contained city

It makes no sense, that there are no delver bases all over the first and second layers. Surely a network of cement buildings would help them against the fauna, and the curse is still manageable. Truth be told, the writer probably has no idea of how many people a colonial empire could mobilize to conquer a space like this. Brits and Conquistadores would have swarmed the abyss by the thousands, burning the creature habitats as they progressed.

I have been thinking and it is either your spoiler or the other two things:

1) Some abyssal electronics in there that allows communication, like a headset (Similar to the ones nanachi used to communicate with reg). And he has to keep it on at all times so that Ozen can call him whenever she needs him.

2) It's weights so that he has to put in effort to stand straight and look up. This could either be for medical purposes (time dilation growth issues or whatever) or a punishment ("You can't look me in the eyes when I am talking with you? Your neck muscles must be too weak to look up properly. I got something to help you with that.")

To be fair, it would seem their religion with the Abyss precludes any sort of permanent settlement. People regard themselves as transient parts of the Abyss who take human form for a short time and then return to it, while the Abyss itself is eternal. Living down there as opposed to just coming and going (even the Seeker Camp is a refuge, not a settlement; presumably nobody is permanently stationed there except Marulk, since Ozen will frequently be out on deep expeditions) runs counter to that. Bondrewd just built Idofront because nobody tells him what the fuck to do, and at that point he'd already gone nucking futs from the effects of Zoaholic, changing out his soul for more Science! and all that.

>>910458

>Some abyssal electronics in there that allows communication, like a headset

You know, this makes SO MUCH sense, and I'm angry at myself for not considering it. When I watched the anime, I found myself wondering how in the world Marulk expected Ozen to hear him when he announced Reg and Riko walking up, as if he expected her to be standing right behind him or otherwise in earshot of his soft voice. It totally destroys the point of him working as the lookout for her, if she also has to be there all the time to be informed of what he sees. This is the obvious solution.

It also explains why he keeps wearing the thing even when he's strung up naked. Ozen just set up a record player next to the speaker playing an ASMR loop of her telling Marulk what a bad boy he's been and how full his bladder must be feeling.

>Why though?

Because I was young and beautiful and puberty made me get huge adult-sized and very sensitive nipples at the age of 11, but I was embarrassed by it and got teased by other boys and never trying playing with them or anything fun like that, and by the time I got over my body dysphoria I was old and hairy and ugly so never appreciated how beautiful I was, and there aren't even any pictures of me that age with my shirt off so all I have are memories that are melting away like printed paper submerged in water.

Boys sometimes get some minor breast swelling during puberty. It's called gynocomastia and is apparently pretty common and normal to some degree.

>>910649

It's basically impossible for this to happen unless it was in the context of Ozen's "last dive", because there's no way SHE could ascend through the sixth layer without getting mittyfied, to say nothing of Marulk. Bonedude's cassette mixtapes probably only work on him, and he's used them all up anyway. This means that the essential gateway between the fifth and sixth layers, which is only passable via using a white whistle, forces both of them to be together to get down there in the first place. I can't see Ozen going that far and no farther, essentially deciding to do something that results in Marulk being stranded with Bonerdad, considering her opinion of him (and she probably knows what he did with the kids). Letting Marulk be subjected to a lifetime of painful experiments to help create the perfect trap isn't in her style. Though, if nothing else I would relish seeing the goddamned look on her face if she went down there to suddenly find Idofront blow'd the fuck to pieces.

Ozen: Did you push the roboshota's Riko button?

Bondrewd: I pushed the roboshota's Riko button.

Ozen: You shouldn'ta did that.

Although, time dilation from being down there might mean that a lot of time has gone by in higher Layers. It's conceivable that decades have passed in just the time they've spent screwing around in the Village. This presents a possibility that an aging Ozen might actually decide to take her last dive, and the now-adult Marulk might go with her (or, hopefully, the eternally chibi Marulk enchanted with some kind of youthfulness Abyss-artifact). Hell, while we're at it let's assume the other kids from the orphanage have in the interim become adult black whistles, and also come along.

Or, more likely, Ozen shows up and tells Riko that the others WOULD have been with her... but they all died in the attempt. Except for Marulk who is now being experimented on by Bestdad.

I was going on the assumption that there's a big difference between a little ways down and when you start getting really deep in the Abyss, lower than the fifth layer. For a reason. Flashbacks so far have been clearly marked as such, I would expect flashforwards to share the same narrative language. The next time we see Orth devastated by the birthday death scenes, it will tie to the shower of petals and messages at Ancap village, and give a better idea of how much time went by precisely.

Can assume it wasn't part of his overall plan, as the bun wasn't going down this far at first. But she's here for now and so must be given something to do. Much more interested in Faputa at the moment as she has something to tell us about the abyss and reg.

That Mitty can't be the "real one" because the timing doesn't work out right. Belafu made the Mitty clone shortly after Bonerude came on a visit, which would have been before Nanachi even escaped with Mitty. And who knows how long took place between then and when Nanachi met Reg who was finally able to kill Mitty. So even if it looks and acts like Mitty, it must have been alive when the real Mitty was, so it can't possibly have her soul, or really anyone's soul considering it's just made out of flesh parts and "value". It's a puppet that doubles as a neverending beer keg for Belefu to sip on, nothing more.

When people die their nameplates are dropped into the abyss, and magically make their way all the way down beyond Idofort. Some abyssalmagic must be at play there, so it's not too far fetched to assume that somehow the souls of the dead are involved as well.

Since Mitty's soul was suck inside her body, and was only released from when reg incinerated her. It's not too hard to assume that somehow the thing that could accurately reproduce her body could also capture her soul on the way down and put it into the body, or link it to it somehow.

Just finished it here. Overall while it's nice to have a bit more at the start, I enjoyed the series more if for no other reason than we got to see more of the Abyss and the creatures inhabiting it.

I rewatched the series fairly recently, and didn't notice much trimming until they were actually in the Abyss, most of it happening in the Second Layer.

A good amount of the Second Layer's encounters were trimmed out in favor of focusing on the Seeker Camp. It was the right call, but it makes Ozen seem like the only challenge of the layer.

They didn't shy away from any of the "problematic" content like the naked hanging, Reg's chinchin, and the gore, so they get bonus points for that.

I look forward to the second part, but I'd still recommend that people watch the series over the movie when possible. The Abyss is such a great setting that it's a shame to miss seeing any of it.

A picture is worth a thousand words, Anon.. Writing is cheap and anyone can do it. There's more skill involved in drawing and if you're an artist you should do everything you can to bring your vision across more clearly. I'd rather the manga take years to be finished but be as immersive and expressive as it can be by the end than just have someone tell me about all the things I should be seeing.

 No.914713

>Writing is cheap and anyone can do it

That's like saying that drawing is cheap and anyone can do it, or acting is cheap and anyone can do it, or singing is cheap and anyone can do it. Most people are utter garbage at all of those things. Writing shitty fanfiction in your teens does not an author make. You go read Lord of The Rings and then tell me that's cheap and anyone could have done it.

 No.914722

That sounds pretty fucking comfy.

 No.914739

>>914713

It is objectively easier to do than any of those other things you mentioned. The barrier for entry, the skill floor and the skill ceiling are lower than than for art. There is overlap, but if you could assign an arbitrary metric to the quality of some art compared to the shittiest and the best examples in their respective medium, a piece of writing of quality x would take a lot less talent to produce than a piece of art of quality x.

Again, a picture is worth a thousand words. You could write those thousand words skillfully and use them to paint a pretty nice picture, but you could also paint the actual picture and now you have something that's not only more impressive on a technical level but it also is much more expressive since it's not limited by the constraints of language and that narrows the distance between what's in your mind and what the audience interprets by a lot.

 No.914744

>>914739

Putting aside the bullshit that a picture is somehow more fulfilling and satisfactory than a piece of writing, which you'd have to have never read a novel to believe, I'd like to see you try and """objectively""" define the difficulty "floor" and "ceiling" of art and writing, respectively, and propose how you'd even begin to compare those to each other (for example, according to what metric).

Because the impression I get so far is that you've done jack shit in either discipline and you're speaking from the perspective of an utter layman who believes writing is easier because, hey, everyone's literate after all, which means everyone's writing ability is nonzero while the opposite is true of art.

 No.914746

>>914744

I told you the metric: where it places compared to the worst and best examples of its medium. I'm not saying that's an actually good metric or useful for any practical purpose, I was just using that to get my point across.

And so far you seem to be arguing that just because there is such a thing as writing that is good on its own then you could turn a manga into a novel and it would be just as good, which is where this entire discussion started and is obviously not true. My point is that however good a piece of writing is, it would only be improved by also having other forms of art such as visuals and sound that help bring the vision across.

And since you ask, I have tried both, not that it's relevant at all. I can't claim to be good at either, but I can definitely say I'm much shittier at art than I am at writing, which seems to line up with what I believe.

 No.914749

>>914746

Presuming the existence of an arbitrary metric to compare these two things adds nothing to the discussion. It almost goes without saying, that obviously we would have to compare artists and writers of the same caliber if we wanted to decide which one is easier. And how can you define where a piece of work places relative to all other work? The only meaningful basis for this comparison is the objective measures of success achieved by artists and writers. For example, if the fraction of aspiring writers who achieve a career in writing is significantly smaller than the fraction of aspiring artists who achieve a career in art, or if the number of culturally relevant works of art was a lot smaller than relevant works of literature, you might have the beginning of an argument. One that's based on a number, rather than just the idea that since you're already able to write on a functional level but can't draw, art must be intrinsically harder.

On another note, I'm not the anon arguing for a MiA novel. Just some faggot who makes a living as an artist. People suck at art because they're not encouraged to do art. People are okay at writing because it's required in life. But since everyone is okay at writing (in civilized countries, anyway) the standard of what constitutes good writing is far higher.

 No.914769

>A picture is worth a thousand words

Please don't use postcard messages as arguments. There is a difference between saying a picture can sum up much text, and replacing lenghty narrative with images which isn't just possible. Because text is the medium of choice to express lengths of time and space due to its sequential nature.

The problem with the school system and the internet, is that you have dumb people armed with knowledge they neither understand or use appropriately. Your clue to disregard them as pretentious redditors is when they insist something works according to some theorem they learned in school, instead of experience.

It might be possible to pull this off, but it would have to be essentially sanctioned fanfiction by another author. Tsukushi's skill is in visual storytelling and the in-fucking-credible beauty of his art and his shotas. His writing, by comparison, doesn't hold up as strongly. The Abyss isn't so much described as it just IS.

Now, if we're discussing mangas that need to be an LN because the author is already writing long, rambling descriptions held together by a tenuous thread of (often chicken-scratch) art, we can make a new HxH thread. But for Made in Abyss, where the art is the most important part, it's not nearly as feasible.

But otherwise, it's good news. A movie instead of an anime season means that the production values should be extremely high because the budget is better and there's no time constraint for a weekly release. Reg vs Brawnydude is going to be INSANE. It also means that we can expect a true-to-source adaptation because there is no need to omit scenes or add filler to fit episodes, either. Idofront Arc is 12 chapters, which if you convert that to 6 episodes (at 20 minutes apiece) equals two hours, which is reasonable for a movie length.

Interesting difference in translation in this scene in the OVA that just came out. Ozen reflects on the effect that Tourka has had on Lyza in the panels following the ones you posted. In the manga translation we got, she complains that Lyza 'got round' because of Tourka, which sounds like complaining about her pregnancy affecting her physical abilities. In the movie, the official subtitle said that Lyza "got soft", implying a change in Lyza's personality towards sentimentality once she became pregnant.

I keep wondering what they're going to do for Reg's tentacles. The sound effects surrounding them imply a sort of hectic furor, a neurotic tension in them rather than grace. This seems to imply that Ozen's disdain for Riko came from the fact that Lyza's pregnancy meant the end of Ozen's own career somehow. Well, that's literally what happened. Ozen has a flashback to Lyza when the geezer with the goggles mentions Riko and Reg should 'learn to depend on eachother', reminincing about Lyza, and in one frame specifically recalling Lyza rescuing her and promising to avenge her. By the time we're introduced to Ozen, I believe she's referred to as the sentinel of the seeker camp, implying she's taken up a semi-permanent position there. It seems to imply that with Lyza gone, Ozen has stagnated, both professionally and emotionally. Which would explain Ozen's self-admitted despising of Riko, who ended the best period of her life, as well as taking Maruruk on as a replacement to fill the void.

The really crazy part isn't the incinerator blast, but the fact that there appears to be a spurt of semen embedded within the center of the blast that greatly exceeds the volume of Reg, himself. Since liquid isn't really compressible for it to make sense to have fit inside him, it brings to mind the idea that it isn't semen at all anymore, but some kind of exotic plasma that expanded greatly when hit by the insane heat of the incinerator and probably bored a hole all the way through the other side of the Abyss and into the open sea causing a cataclysmic steam explosion.

If it's meant to be silent, then why put it there in the first place? You can't just write your name as "Sarm" and then say the "r" is silent so it's actually pronounced "Sam". It's pointlessly confusing.

Language should follow rules to be understood, not break the rules and require extra context to be understood for shits and giggles. If your language doesn't have an ability to sound like a certain word, maybe don't choose to use that word...? Habit? Spoken language changes over time but that doesn’t mean that the written version will change its spelling to accomodate phonological changes. Imagine how much hassle it would be to overhaul English orthography when we have centuries worth of texts in the old spelling, especially when English’s orthography, as shitty as it is, is perfectly workable minus the quirks. Just because some varieties of English drop the “r” in some environments doesn’t me we throw out the whole system.

The rest is just pure autism.

Well, there's no reason why we'd find out anything about Reg and Faputa's relationship during the flashback, because Veko has been stuck in that mud pit in Irumyuui's brain during that time and only barely knows what's going on outside. Considering that Faputa contains wish-fulfilling eggs, she could have used one on an interference unit to make it more human, and that's where Reg came from. Guess we're waiting another few months to find out...

My god, what an absolutely earth-shattering chapter. We now know the orgins of Faputa, why Veko was imprisoned, why the people of the town look the way they do, and what Faputa's goal is. All in one chapter. Amazing. Fucking orgasmic.

Because, as I said, it mostly only confirmed what we had already guessed, albeit with copious body horror as we've been conditioned to expect.

Also, "orgasmic" isn't how I'd describe the chapter. It would be how I'd describe having Faputa sit on my face with those fluffy thighs and whatever mystery lies between them.

I wonder how many years have passed since big momma turned into big village. Even if Wazukyan and the other's can't age due to their mutations, Velcro could probably still age in her brain-cell. So it couldn't be too long.

In that time the villagers have managed to build a society with it's own rules, infrastructure and traditions.

I guessed that Irumyuui would turn into the village, and that everyone becoming narehates would be because they were directly transformed by her. As for her being Faputa, that's debatable seeing how Faputa carries her will and can actual move around and do things whereas Irumyuui has basically become inert and no longer qualifies as a living thing. I would call it less a child and more a reincarnation.

>>918162

The "and set out on a happy journey" kinda makes me think Faputa is going to join Riko and Reg and Nanachi. Reg's loli harem is growing nicely, I see. Too bad one of them is only a whistle.

>>918213

>Velcro could probably still age in her brain-cell

Nothing to suggest that. Until Riko freed her, she was directly attached to the Village/Irumyuui, and so presumably was kept alive via the same process of exchanging "value" as everyone else.

Veko being inside Irumyuui seemed to have an effect of keeping everything working smoothly, as if she was keeping whatever shreds of her consciousness remained calm through her love. Possibly, singing to and taking care of the other babies in there had an effect as well. Either way, the writing's basically on the wall that the Village is going to get nuked, and part of the reason this is happening now is because Veko was freed so Irumyuui (and therefore Faputa) is going to go berserk.

At the very least, it's interesting to go back to right when Riko let Veko out of her pit. It's completely obvious that everything has been precisely planned; Tsukushi is by no means "winging it" chapter to chapter. There's even a few shots of things we'll see in the future, like Faputa's birth.

 No.919947

>>919401

It's planned, obviously - but was it a good plan? The fact that it felt aimless until now is less than optimal from a reader's standpoint. The amount of (continuous, unbroken) setup required to bring us up to speed is becoming tiresome, and we're still in the dark about what's happening now, we just know how the village was made.

After building up to this for so many chapters, Tsukushi better have the ultimate ace in the hole of a conclusion waiting for us.

 No.920059

>>919947

>The fact that it felt aimless until now is less than optimal from a reader's standpoint

Honestly it only seems that way because of the slow upload schedule. If it were a normal monthly manga, this entire arc would only have lasted a year or so.

As for what's happening now? Reg is going to use Faputa's body parts to buy back "Mitty", and then Faputa is going to expect him to fulfill his "promise" of Incinerate-ing the Village to nothingness. Presumably he will refuse, which I can't imagine she will be happy about. Worse case scenario: Faputa might be able to somehow override Reg's personality and control him like a robot, or switch him back into that ragemonster state he showed in Idofront that actually appears to be a default. It's possible that he was meant to be that way because Faputa created him or modified him from one of those interference units with a wish from the egg filled with feelings of violence and destruction toward the Village, and sent him off to do it. But he ran into Lyza, who somehow reprogrammed him to be nicer as well as inserting some of her own personality traits, and sent him upwards on a Fetch Quest to get Riko.
