I'm putting a Visual Novel together, and it's a tough call with the decision about voice acting. I'm already stretching my meager budget with the illustrations and music alone, and voice acting, especially in English to a target audience of weeaboos, has the potential to blow up in my face. On the other hand, I've seen English voice acting do well for video games with a western fantasy setting (Dragon Age and Divinity come immediately to mind) and there's a part of me that would love to be able to include that kind of voice work into a VN and see if the nips enjoy it.
In the end, it might be too much of a tall order this time around. Too many characters, too many lines, and dwindling resources really hurt the prospects for it. Even if I could find one VA willing to do a whole fuck of a lot out of the goodness of their heart, I would still need at least two to cover a pretty wide range of male and female voices, and they'd have to be willing to voice adult content on top of that.
Yeah, it'd be nice but it's probably not happening this time around. Maybe next project, when the lifting won't be so heavy.
