What do you do to keep your morale up, /agdg/?

What you need is not morale, but discipline.

It's less scary if you break it into chunks. I like making outlines. Major headers for the biggest chunks of tasks, then add in as many of the smaller tasks as you know under those headers. Then, when you shit down, it isn't DO ALL THIS!!! it's do one thing that you can cross off the list.

If you are more interested in Shitposting on 8chan than on actually doing Game Dev, then maybe you need to consider if Game Dev is what you really are interested in doing. Or if you are doing it because you feel obligated to do so because of some arbitrary reason, because it seems like your stance on the whole thing is that it is a chore. And if you love doing something, it is never a chore. And that is why most marriages fail.

The problem is that your game is too big and/or complicated for your current skilllevel. So the project you're working on includes too many things you've never done before. You slowly have to become comfortable with all aspects of game development. Otherwise - even though you know you can solve this task somehow - a mean mix of (self-)questioning, half-/theoretical knowledge and uncertainty will form a thick, impenetrable barrier. Work your way up slowly and forget your "big game" for a while. Does your game require AI? Make a small, self-contained game using this AI and publish it. Feeling that you actually published a game and (hopefully) got good feedback will give you motivation. Some goes for art or story.

You will see, after you're warmed-up with all these things, the whole game will suddenly fall into place.
