It's decent but as far as I recall, it only works for mobile yeah? I guess desktop support is coming soon. I haven't used it in 4-5 years but I released my first commercial game with it.

I liked how the whole system was set up with the exception of its lack of Z-sorting, which prompted me to go create my own 2D engine, which borrowed heavily from how things were set up here.

Other than that, it's really simple, easy to get into, and it's been free for awhile (used to be like 300 something per year). If anyone was making a 2D game and wanted to program using LUA, it's pretty much all you'd need.

Would totally use it for 2D games if they implement the Z-indexing and desktop support. Here's some stuff I worked on years ago.

There's nothing wrong with a corona on a hot day with a slice of lime

Speaking of LUA, have you tried Love2D?

82e7d9 No.22604

>>22593

Yes, but I didn't like it coming from Corona as I became accustomed to its display system, built-in classing, and overall how it simplifies things. As I was just starting out seriously making games at that point, I basically delivered my first game in 2 weeks.

I basically preferred rebuilding an engine similar to Corona rather than use Love2D. I also had concerns about Love2D games by other devs I tried not always working, requiring the install for users, and at the end of the day, I just want people to play games without hassle.

If Corona is free and publishes to desktop, it will be in my opinion the best choice.

Is it exactly like LUA? so if I'm looking for tutorials I should just look for the lua language as opposed to how to program in corona sdk?

Even from the beginning, Corona has always had such a strong community and well-documented resource base that you only had to go to the website+community forum to get everything you need. It's the Unity of 2D frameworks.

I don't know if you should bother reading up on LUA but it wouldn't hurt. I know I had no previous experience in LUA when I jumped in. I previously knew Basic, Pascal and Objective C. I read books about but never grasped C++ at the time... Of course now I can do C#, C and OpenGL, C++ etc... because hey when it clicks, it clicks.

It's free and you could probably make a game in ten minutes, so if you really want to know, just jump into it. There's no right way to start, you just do it and course correct based on your own issues when you run into it.

How does Corona compare to say Construct 2?

869f4a No.23230

>>23206

Construct 2 is like a dumbed-down GameMaker.

Corona is a bretty solid SDK, but does not provide a full suite. So in terms of level editing and so forth, you will either be using 3rd party tools, or creating your own tools and data format. In other words, it's recommended pretty much only for programmers.

Construct 2, as I understand it, is both a little more complex in some areas, and more simplified and limiting in most others.

After all, it only makes HTML games.

I prefer Love2D. Corona is decent provided you don't mind sticking to their specific paradigm. Love2D is more freeform.
